@ s4real

Nice new interface and format. Simple and easy to use. Cathy and I are sorry for you having to "dust off" your project. We tried out this version and it ran perfectly. Tested the game and really liked the idea of being able to remap the keys from the GUI and have them change for the game itself.

We would like to ask permission to post this on FPS-Media.

Cheers

While I'm not a fan of the looks, I realize it's the free version so no complaint there. The program is easy to use, and works well for both developer and end user. The keyboard utility says that the changes are made in real time, but the display of key assignments on the left does not reflect the changes, leaving you wondering if it's actually working.

A pleasant surprise was the compression. I tested it with FPSC X10 - simple.exe. After building this small level normally, the folder size was 250MB. After packing with Vishnu, the size is now 90MB. I can imagine the savings on a full sized level!

Thanks for the packer s4!

Brian.

s4,

The developer interface looks great and much more professional than the end user interface. The border is missing or doesn't go all the way around the form. I would rather see a full form with title bar, especially if we can title it ourselves. It looks like you have buttons on top of buttons, and there is a hidden item or label covering part of the progress bar frame. Lift the video settings and progress bar frame so it's even with the bottom of the text window The layout is fine and easy to use, but I would just clean it up a bit.

I can be a real pain in the butt, no?

I normally wouldn't be so picky, but I think it's a great little utility.

Brian.

@ s4real,

Not sure if this works, but here is an idea for the user interface in the beginning. This interface allows the user to select their directory where the game is for packaging, select their image, and select their video BEFORE you click on Package Game button. Just gives a rough idea hopefully.

This way it allows everything to be chosen first and then the game is packaged, rather than having to entering the name, package the game, and then the pop-up box coming up to select the image and video. In a nutshell, it takes your process and puts it up front first, then package second.

Cheers

Mike

Edit: Fixed the interface example- replaced Video with Sound.

I really really like that design Blackfox.
Hopefully He will change it to something similar.
Also, could you add support for more monitor sizes?
For example mine is 1366x768

I was already discussing the resolution settings with s4real. I too suggested it may be good to have other resolutions as most of us don't use the standard 1024x768. The interface I was showing here is the beginning phase of the application. Trying to keep it simple for him

Thanks Blackfox for the idea on what you like the app to look like.

I will be adding more resolutions as the standard 1024x768 don't seem to be used much these days.

No problem.

Since I am familiar now with what you are using for your coding application, it may also be a good idea to insert ToolTips on the buttons. This is handy for those that are not too sure what the button is for. They move the mouse over and have a description appear. Good if you don't want to "clutter" your GUI with a bunch of descriptions.

Looking forward to seeing the new interface.

Cheers

*UPDATE*

Vishnu Fpsc packer v2 is now released.

Done a new interface for both the user and end user to give the project a more pro feel.

I've started from scratch for this release so video setting and keyboard mapping have been taken out.

Big thanks to Blackfox for the manual.

Hope you all enjoy

s4real,

Slick and easy interface. Thanks for the upgrade. In case anyone wonders, it works well with both FPSC X9 and X10, and in XP, Vista or W7.

For me, the video setting are a toss up. I'm happy either way.

Neat little app s4. I've noticed when selecting the dialog box for your game to pack it starts right at the desktop, perhaps starting it right in the 'MyGames' folder of FPSC as that's where most games will be built. just saves having to go through numerous folders to get there.

Just tried it (on Windows 7) and it worked beautifully! May I offer some suggestions?

1/. The loading picture is restricted to a certain size (larger pics are resized). Might be worth mentioning the size in the manual so people can make sure it all fits correctly when creating one.

2/. Perhaps have the 'Launch' button disabled until unpacked?

3/. After it's finished unpacking, may be a line saying "You game is now unpacked and ready to launch" where the unpack bar was?

Thanks for the review nickydude.

Yes the image is resized to fit the box I will include more info in the manual the best size to use.

The launch buttons are disabled untill it unpacks the game, you can click them but they will do nothing.

I will look at adding a line so it says its unpacked and ready to launch.

Many thanks for the feedback

This one isn't working for me. It just keeps going, and going, and going (energizer bunny) but never completes. Then if I press the pack button again, it completes but there are missing files in the game folder.

I'm packing the Simple level just as I did with the previous version.
