This is a project I've been playing around with for a while now, and I think it's about time I started it. Basically I create 100 models within 100 days...If my math is correct, that's one model a day. Is this project possible? Who flipping knows!? Onward I charge into the realm of 'supa-modeling', trusty pencil and mouse in hand! Random List of Possible Models: + Code Snippet Day 1/Model 1:Acoustic Guitar -Production Time: 6hrs -1 Mesh -1 1024x1024 png map w/ alpha Screenshot: ![]() Download: http://www.mediafire.com/file/xhzbokta1al/guitar_final_model.rar Notes: Don't worry about the strange alpha, I included a different map with an alpha layer, so it should fix that in DB. |

Texturing too!? That's quite a commitment! I will probably do something like this over the summer. I will need tons of work and practice to improve my portfolio in order to get it up to industry standards. It will be a real challenge, but I think I can do it Azunaki: Good idea, I'll start adding that to the models. I can guesstimate how long I took on the guitar, didn't really time myself. Got to work, then I'll post my second model, later. |

Modeling something every day is girly-man stuff, but texturing is serious business. I applaud your efforts. "You are not smart! You are very un-smart!" |

Ran out of time today so I did a quick model. I'll be coming back to this down the road to make a better texture w/ a grip and some more color variations. Azunaki: I plan on doing more complex models on my free days so I can spend a good amount of time working on them. On days that I work I'll be doing quick and easy models not excluding testing out new techniques. Day 4 / Model 4: PDA (normal mapping test) -Production Time: 3hrs -1 Mesh -1 Texture -1 Normal Map Screenshot: ![]() Download: http://www.mediafire.com/file/mzozmxz4tzz/pda_final_model.rar Notes: This is really a normal mapping test. I've never really done it before and I think I'm beginning to get the hang of it. Anyway, this is all normal mapping, the color map is very...VERY basic! Side Note: Don't be afraid to critque any of the models I build. Or if you find an error or if the models won't load for you please tell me. |

That reminds me, I need to learn what all this 'normal mapping' is, looks like it's worth the hunt. You are making some nice models there Josh, I'm almost matching you on the model a day thing in the Poly discussion thread. LoL.. the community is being flooded! Cheers mate, keep up the modeling, it's fun eh? ![]() |

Hey David, I've been meaning to reply to your post, I took your bricks and made some kul stuff with them. Depending on the program your using, it's real simple to do. There are two methods, the proper way, and the cheaters way. The best models are made with both techniques Cheers! |

Another quick model. Tomorrow I'll be able to start some more complex and exciting models. Day 5 / Model 5: Wooden Barrel (classic RPG clutter) -Production Time: 2hrs -1 Mesh -1 Texture Map -1 Normal Map Screenshot: ![]() Download: http://www.mediafire.com/file/jntnwmkoi33/wood_barrel_final.rar Notes: Normals look like they're set to the face orientation, but loaded in DB they load up correctly. |

Azunaki: Not sure what shader you use for normals, but mine you can set the displacement percentage. So this is easily changeable within your engine. I'm also using a metal shader on the barrel, which is why it's so shiny. |

Azunaki: Aye, I see. Normals can really bring a model to life and add tons of small detail without adding up the polygons. I'll post an example here in a second... |

There is an excellent Nvidia tool for photoshop for creating normals I highly suggest it to anyone interested. And I believe it's free. We've been using it to quickly turn our spec maps into normals. The normals combined with the spec maps really bring out detail in an object. |

If your looking for something free for a free program, I think GG made a normal map creator not too long ago. Wings 3d also has normal map creation tools as well as Truespace. You can also do it in blender with a bit of light setup. |

It's that time, I'm off work for the next three days and I'm ready to get some serious models done. First set of three models all tie into each other. I'll leave your imagination to figure out what I'm compiling together. Also, I'll be finishing up my low poly modeling tutorial. So without delay, let's get started!
