Dang, That looks really sweet. Is that programmed in DBP?? Possibly the nicest looking (at least form the screenies) indie game I have seen. Would definatley like to have more info on it. Will check out your links. Anyway, I am impressed and left in awe. The last pic actually reminds me of Aeon Flux. The artistry is simply breath-taking. Sort of like a combination of NeverWinter Nights and Aeon Flux with a topping of Tim Burton. I am speechless!!! ![]() |

Isn't that with Realmcrafter? What does that have to do with TGC or any of its products? I'm not a real programmer but I play one with DBPro! |

Oooh, don't rain on my parade! I really hoped that it was DBpro. I really wanted it to be so.... Still looks nice, but if it is a different engine, I guess this should be moved to off topic. Not familiar with RealMCrafter, how much of the work is original???? ![]() |

Looks pretty good, even if its not made in dbp. I am a little confused as to what the "; by Eagle" in the title means. |

I agree Jerok and I was wondering about the "by Eagle" as well; Perhaps it's the team name, unforutnately I'm afraid we might not get answers for a while. I would just really like to know how much of the content is original. Because even if the game itself is in a different engine, the modeling would lend itself well to the 3d discussion board. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, because I am so blown away by the mood this game seems to deliver. So perhaps the artistry itself can be discussed. I will have to look at RealmCrafter. Here's ref for Aeon Flux (creator Peter Chung), for anyone not familiar... ![]() http://www.avclub.com/content/node/43573 ![]() |

But if the models are original, and made in Game Space.... surely the media can be discussed there, right???? I am however saddened that it's not DBpro. I literally gasped when I saw it. And doubt suddenly kicked in (as you can see by my first question), but I had hope.... Still looks really nice. ![]() |

Thanks for the Kind words! The "Eagle" in the title is my name, "Vickie Eagle" read my interview from Caligari to know more about me. Whats this game have to do with this site? Well I used GameSpace to make the building and models(a modeler sold from this site I used to make this game)I also used "Plant life, TeD and Tree magic, which I bought here from the online store. I thought if you used the product from this site then its ok to post here. They did give me access to the forum. Didn't mean to step on any toes~ btw, Realm Crafter and Game Creators are working on a deal from the rumors I heard. always~ Vickie ~Get in the Game~ http://www.caligari.com/gamespace/career_mmorpg01.asp My Profile > http://www.caligari.com/news/news_june2006/cpcp3.html |

Yeah I saw this on that link Quote: "All Models come in 3ds and X formats unless specified for a
specific engine. Indie engines we support are Torque, A6 game studio, Realm Crafter, 3Imapct, Dark Basic and 3DRad " I still think the game looks impressive. Perhaps It would be better to discuss the artwork and models in the 3D board. I just hate to see something so beautiful get locked. ![]() |

Yeah, it won't really be up to Lee, but more or less the moderator's. Considering the professionalism and quality of the post, I hope that it will be considered even if it's moved from here. Great work, as the screenies look superb. I'd definately like to have some news on this, as well as some Q & A's as I'm sure there is alot that can be learned from this project. Good luck with this. ![]() |

Looks Fantastic, the only downside I see in the entire thing is the gui, and only because of my opinion on how it fits in. The lighting is fantastic, and the lod of the textures is perfect. Time is ticking away. |

IMHO, the gui's texture behind the buttons doesn't tranisition well to the screen, and it looks pasted on and very "sharp edged". The buttons themselves look bit better. So it may be just softening up the adges and blending things in. Pehaps creating and/or defining a border around the graphic, and softening the tone a bit. And the only reason the other GUI media sticks out, is beacause everything else in-game looks so superb. usually it's the other way around. So dropping some shadows, and playing with the hue, and intensity of the other elements might help them work together. ![]() |

Thanks, and I hope your game does well. I'm confident that it will. It's nice to see an indie developer that's a female. I think that the game development is nearly ready to mature as an artform, but it will require much more of a balance than the traditionally male dominated industry has currently in order to do so. |

Hey there Vickie, Let me start of with the bad news: I agree that this'd better be moved to any other forum than WIP. This is not a program written in any TGC language, and for some reason even some TGC projects are fended from this board. You'd do better on the 3D forums (for the custom content). Personally, I find that sad, but nothing more but fair - I mean, many MMORPG ideas die here ("TGC Forums: The Birth and End of every MMORPG dream"), because they're too much to program. Now you create a game with a premade engine, and I'm afraid we'll have dozens of RealmCrafter games on here in weeks. The good news is, I've got nothing to say about moving or locking the thread. And also, that this is not personal towards you - as said, glad to see more female developers (there's two in my class for visual artist, one in my class for programming). Second of all, I think this is the best, or maybe second-best Realm Crafter project I'm seeing. I like the sci-fi one on the Realm Crafter site a bit more, because the setting relates more to me. You created a beautiful, conveying and fairy-talish mood in your screenshots (only undone by using what seems an unmodified HUD). Can't tell about gameplay, but you seem to have implemented the RC-options pretty well. So, not to limit you but for fairness, I'd say move this thread. However, I do not want to discourage you. Your progress seems amazing, and personally I'd keep watching it in whatever forum you put it in (or post a website here we can follow if there is no other place). |

Ah,The Eagle strikes again,I have bein following your progress for a long time already... This project looks very good,Yet i am concerned about the Login system Realm Crafter has,it looks terrible and well...Uhm,is not really good with options and such. You also moght want to consider recreating/texturing the Weapons and Armor,as Realm Crafter weapons and armor are not all the same style for some reason. You know that the Atmosphere of the game kindog remember's me of World Of Warcraft and some similar games? I do not agree with moving this,Realm Crafter onloy has a built in server and movement system. The other parts all must be scripted and such. Also Strata Works is not made with ANY TGC product either, and i have not yet read any complaints about that one,Also i have never read a rule it MUST be made in any TGC product to be showcased here. EDIT: Also,if you ever need a new Beta tester, feel free to contact me,I have played many MMORPG's and other kind of games. So im not new to online gaming anymore |

i've actually been following this game for over a year now, since you posted it on the gamespace forums. the quality of work has improved a lot since then. game also shows what you ca do with gamespace, which is overlooked by a lot of people. i agree this should stay here, it uses many products sold by TGC, and it showsoff the work that can be done with them. good job, now where's our demo? as for GuI, i'd say if all possible, not sure that it is since i've never used realm crafter, is to make the interface moddable, like WOW has done(seems they've set the standard for all MMO's to come out after it, lol) JoshM Brain hacker by trade. |

looks good, but all the screen shots seem to be rory calhoun's, lots of standing. are there no animations yet or did you just not take screens of things like attacking etc. Looks like rc is a pretty nifty tool but the problem with the template programs is the lack of options when it comes to making your game different to everyone elses that uses the engine. DBP lets you build the engine itself, which lets you do what you want.. it's just harder to do anyway good luck with the project, it looks really nice for an indie mmo. Oh and with keeping in-line with my usual behaviour when a girl shows herself on here, HI Ladies I'm single Syndicate remastered: Corporate persuasion through urban violence. ![]() |

Well thank you all for you comments and interest, ok, it was mentioned that there are no animation shots so here you go, ![]() Personally I think it’s a good thing to show off your work. I really don’t care what you use to make your games with because any way you go about it there is a ton of work involved, which is why 99% of the games started are never finished. So if you really get down to it there just not that many of us that are really doing it. There are always the on-lookers that the people looking for social interaction that hang out on the boards and that ok but if you look hard you’re just not going to find very many hard core indie developers that follow through with their products. So I believe no matter what you are developing in we should stick together because this is a pretty small circle of people, and we are all we have to lean on for advice and stimulating conversation (finish your games!) always~ Vickie ~Get in the Game~ http://www.caligari.com/gamespace/career_mmorpg01.asp My Profile > http://www.caligari.com/news/news_june2006/cpcp3.html |

looks good, even though its made in RC, it still require programming work. RC is just an engine, the author still need to code stuff. I think this can be in this forum, people can look at it as seeing models and scripts programming. After all, we have model packs in here or programs that used VB or c . So i think this would be ok too lol is this game like a commerical release or just a hobby game? ![]() Beta Level out! Check it out. =] http://s7.invisionfree.com/NacksBunkie/ |

I keep disagreeing. I mean, C++, Blitz, VB and the like are all programming languages, and still we do not allow them. I say no exceptions, not even for (extremely) high quality work like this. |

Well I can't really speculate on what the rules have been, and what they should be. I honestly don't visit the WIP boards much and haven't read the rules for posting in ages. Mainly i come here to see some updates to projects I am excited about. All I can say is that I'm glad this was posted here. I'm happy I had the chance to see it and discuss it with one of the creators. With some slowdown of NEW quality WIP's, it may have been the perfect timing for me. So regardless of what becomes of the thread, I am glad I happened upon it and I'll keep an eye on it for sure. I do understand tha_rami's point. As people like Cash Curtis II, Gil Giavanti (sp?), Riidii, OSMMORPG etc.. have really set the mark for the WIP board, and have done so purely in DB/DBpro. I'm not sure it's fair to their efforts, if the board did become a posting ground for other engines, creators, etc... So while I have nothing against this poster, or the project (Both of which I think are class acts!), I leave the decision to people who have to make it. ![]() |

My main point is that if this is allowed, I think we can wait for the coming 350 MMORPG's that are made in 30 minutes. This one is an exception, but try setting a clear rule between what RC work can and cannot be posted here. As I said, this is quality work. I've got nothing against neither the poster nor the project, I do think this is not the place for RC-work. Sorry. Not up to me, though. Hey, Eagle/Vicky, do you have a website for this project? I'd love to be updated on the project, I really like the semi-realistic cartoony graphics. |

It is indeed a slippery slope. Quote: "I do understand tha_rami's point. I don't deal in 'fair'. Nothing is fair. In a practical sense, if any engine was allowed to post here then it would change the dynamic of the board and would deter some from posting their work. It wouldn't, however, change the output of our community. Very few games ever get completed, and this will never change, no matter what tools people have. I am of the opinion that this post is okay. That is because of the nature of the project and the fact that she is the only person using an outside engine has posted here. If more people attempted to do so I'd fully support locking every one of them. At that point we would be inundated with a barrage of cookie cutter MMORPGs that all look nice from the onset but yield only the effect of drowning our board. In this sense Vickie is a pioneer that will popularize the use of RC. That doesn't help or interest me particularly, though neither does it offend me. |

I don't mean to be rude but looking at the web it says you work for Solstar Games who make Real Crafter? It's annoying seeing FPSC stuff here (they have their own showcase) never mind blatent ads to steal TCG customers! And the biggest poke in Lees eye is that it's writtin in Blitz Basic, which you need to buy to edit the source. Grrr! Thin edge of the wedge people! I agree that this should be locked, just because some of the media was created using a product that TGC sell doesn't mean it should be posted here, post it on the gamespace forums instead. Furthermore I think this hasn't been locked because 'Vickie' is female, not trying to sound sexist but it's basically true and as Cash would put it "you're a dork"(not you Vickie). Lastly I don't think the quality of the work should affect anything, if EA games started spamming the forums with their latest games stating they used gamespace to make the plain used in particle effects as their justification, would it be allowed? Well, OK EA games is a bad example, maybe valve as they make them to a higher standard :p. |

I don't mean any offense to Vicki or her project. It does look cool and I'm sure she has done a lot of work on it. But we've gone over this several times in the past with different people posting their stuff made from other products. The WIP board should be for projects programmed. Stuff from 3D GameMaker or FPSC, and any other scripting type "Game Maker" app is shunned and usually ignored. This seems to be different because it looks so good and dangles the tasty MMORPG carrot in front of us. The WIP board is really meant for stuff that's not ready for Program Announcements. What is the description of Program Announcements? Quote: "Written something of quality in DarkBASIC or DarkBASIC Professional? Then post about it here! Please try and include download locations and screen shots if possible."
When Vicki is done will she put this in Program Announcements? I'm not a real programmer but I play one with DBPro! |
