Hi All,
I am thinking about buying and doing a project with FPSC, it looks and reads very well and I have read a few posts here that you enthusiastic lot seem to love the product.
But I have a few questions :-

1. Is it possible to create a finished game that will run smoothly , look good and not take an age to load or install?

2. Can I implement guns with flash light capabilities?

3. What about weapons using particles - Flame thrower?

4. Can I use past BSP maps - QUAKE 3, HALF LIFE 2 created maps in FPSC?

5. Can backgrounds be animated, as in animated VDU screens etc?

6. In your honest opinion will FPSC 10 be as good as the videos show?

7. Has anyone played with this version -Beta test etc?

8. I want to implement my own sounds to surfaces, like walking, wood breaking etc, is this possible?

9. Is it possible to create speedy games, say a racing game where the cars have guns? or is the engine too slow when moving?

10. Is this package nothing more than an updated doom engine with some extras?

Many thanks to all who do respond and all who have posted at this forum and keep this product alive. Bedroom coding is not dead it is the life blood of the games industry!!

Thanks again
MikeB

@Goodman: No, you can't. Even if you would replace the gun with the inside of a car, you could still crouch, strafe and look up and down, and turn at the spot while standing still.
You'd need the source, and lots of knowledge with ODE and DBP to be able to implement vechile physics.

6. Even better than the videos show!

If you've got a PC capable of running FPSC X10, don't buy X9, the version out now, wait a few weeks for X10, it's a mile better.

Ive got a flashlight uploaded in the models & media section. Just search Flashlight. It is just a decal, but this can be added to any other gun.

Just a thought, but what if you removed the buttons for strafe, crouch and jump? You would be left with looking up, down, left and right. But you can do that in a car?

Anyway I would wait until FPS Creator X10 if possible. It just looks so good compared to X09. But if you want to get familiar with FPS Creator (look at the video tutorials (search tutorials in the forum)) you could buy FPS Creator X09 and start making some games. I do not know if they are offering a discount it you already have FPS Creator X09 when you buy FPS Creator X10. (They have not said anything about this yet).

1: Depends on how much a level is composed of, but generally yes.
2: Not a proper dynamic one with proper light, maybe in X10.
3: look for Butter Fingers flamethrower thread.
4: No
5: No, but keep an open mind for the future.
6: Do I need to answer that?...Yes.
7: Not me
8: Yes. simply put your sound files into the audiobank and select it from a menu
9: Player speed can be set to any value. Find a practical number.
10: No. FPS Creator has it's own source code and game engine. It's made in Darkbasic Pro by an amazing collection of prgrammers and artists. Besides, did doom let you make your own game?

Hope that helped.

Lol, you don't even know what you're talking about.
Using the same image for crouching? I don't even understand how that's possible, nor is it a good idea. You're suggesting that we make it so when you crouch, you see what you saw standing up. That would require an image for every angle you could possibly look at every single room, corridor, walkway, segment, or whatever. Plus, you'ld also have to iclude the fact that you've got so many entity in your entitybank.
So, here we go: 360 degrees, therefore 360 images, times the number of segments in your level,+360x the number of entities in your level, +360x the number of lights,+360 times the number of light possibilities,+the number of guns in your level.
For my current level, that number would be:76,280 or something close to it.
You want me to create 76,280 images?

I hope I dont get flamed for this but...

(aiming towards Goodman) HAHAHAHAHahaHAHhahahaaaaaaa.... oohhh gee I'm sorry but I just kept laughing after those posts... hah.. hhuhhh....eh.... heh.... alright I'm done.

Now, is the slightest of possibly slightlinest of slights, I agree with Goodman, as you can edit the FPSC source (with lots of DBP and ODE knowledge) implement vehicles or 3rd person, etc etc.

To go back onto this question, look at what FredP made by replacing a weapons crosshair with the decal I made.
