Stolen from Deathead

Guitar Idol 2008 is a competition where you upload a video or recording of yourself playing guitar. The performances are voted by the public, and the 10 people with the most votes get to play in London on June 14th at a big guitar concert. The winner of that gets to open for Joe Satriani, Godfather of rock guitar!!

Here is my late entry:
http://www.guitar-idol.co.uk/alastair-zotos

I ask you all to please vote for me, and if you can, try and encourage others to do so aswell, and watch a fellow TGCer take to the stage!

Much appreciated, thanks

Pretty good!

I voted... but it was kind of a pain to make an account just to vote...

Yep it is. Infact, that's the exact reason why my closest friends aren't voting for me!

I think you guys are nicer though. Thanks for the comment

And that's why you're not getting my vote either. Very impressive left hand though Since it's for a stage performance I think you should have been playing standing up, showing you got what it takes to stand on a stage as well. Also get a hotter image of yourself, not that drinking-buddy one you got now; it's all about the image!

Would George Clooney win if he just stood there?

Still only got 2 votes This is disappointing

[edit]

Literally takes about a minute to sign up and vote. I don't deserve a mere 2 votes. Lol.

Yup! I think you did! Thanks very much mate!!

I'd just like you all to know that although you don't exactly get anything out of this, it's really big and I think I have potential to be a part of it. Admitedly, I would be proud if I saw a TGCer perform at one of these things!

Sorry for the bump, but I seem to be stuck around 26 points. Normally I wouldn't do this but this is something that I have to work my way up quickly with. Any more votes are very much welcomed!

I have the same attitude to this as the UK and US do to governmental elections: I can't be bothered.

But yeah, I'll proabbly give you a vote. That is, once our speakers work again and I can actually listen to it.

The reason you're stuck is likely that the "VOTE" button has ceased to function. It has on my end, anyway.

Pus, are you implying Zo should stand around holding the guitar with a big banner behind him that says "Winner!" without actually playing guitar?

I came to this thread fearful of another silly Guitar Hero contest, lol. Sounds fantastic, you rock! But yeah, registration was a pain. I take it I'm getting something via email with a password, but it hasn't gotten here yet :/. I agree with DA, I think you should showcase yourself moving around and such. Fact: Talent shows are 10% talent, 90% show. I can't remember who told me that but they're words to live by, hehe. Also, do you have to play along to music, or can you just shred without anything in the background? If you don't need it, I'd ditch the other music .

Sounds great and good luck! I'll vote for you if this silly confirmation email ever gets here. If you meet Joe Satriani, tell him Matt Rock says hi, and watch his bewilderment when he doesn't know me

Matt, I have to admit the backing track didn't sound perfect in the recording. Infact it doesn't sound better on its own but it does sound a lot better, but it was my first ever home-made backing track. Even if it sounds bad, atleast I crossed a line that needed crossing, heheh.

Weird about the e-mail though. Everyone I've talked to hasn't had any problems with it.

DB PROgrammer,

Thanks Take a listen anyway if you ever have time though, heheh.

If you have RCA jacks on your PC, you might try hooking the audio directly to the computer and mixing the audio into the video itself so it sounds more clear. If you need help with mixing audio or anything let me know, audio engineering is something I'm pretty good at . Anything to increase the presentation a bit so we can all say we knew you back when lol.

The only thing I could think of is to get yourself a direct box, or some sort of jack to turn your guitar's TRS line into a headphone jack... get the music on the computer, and I think you can mix in the track you're adding in Windows Movie Maker. Ideally you'd want to properly mix the audio, but unless you have software like Cool Edit or Sonar that'd probably be hard to do :/.

Does your camera have a microphone jack? You *could* try buying a Y-jack and connecting your amp and whatever you're playing the music on directly to the camera itself. If you have two microphones lying around, you could mic your stereo, then mic your amp and hook the amp mic directly into your camera.

The tricky thing to deal with in either case is your levels... too loud, and it'll sound crackly and distorted, and if it's too quiet you can't hear it, so you'll have to do some experimentation. But yeah, the best/ easiest way I can think of is to get your audio onto your computer somehow, and mix it into your video while editing.
