I just created this simple grass-effect, which looks quite horrible due to the lack of antialiasing. However, I thought it would basically be a not that bad idea to "enhance" 2D-games with such faked 3D-grass and wondered, why none of the 2D-Games I know uses such techniques (I mean, it's incredibly simple but theoretically would look quite cool... I guess).


No media required, of course.



I tried to simulate wind-movement... while it's not realistic, it still moves the grass to show off the actual effect.

Yeah, I agree (although I never thought of it before you posted this!).

Here's a modified version of CuCuMBeR's modified version of your code, that I think makes it look even more 3D:

that looks pretty cool, the only one that bothers me are the edges. there should be grass too!
