Here it is, the newest 3D modeling Compo for your enjoyment..

Do you see what I see? This competition revolves around your computer. It's simple, you can model anything that is within sight of your computer. (pretend your computer has 360 degree view but cannot see through walls.) Pick an object, any object within sight and make a model.

This Competition will run up to and including September 25.

Looking around my computer and room I can only imagine the 'multitude' of objects that might slide into this compo. LoL

Good luck and have fun!

Cheers!

Note: With this Compo, we begin a new 'Consolidated' WiP/Entry Thread. Post your works in progress here and when you are satisfied with your entry post a picture and label the post "This is my Final Entry.".

Some Rules Clarifications:

1) To win Best Model we need to view your model, so be sure to upload it.
2) To win Best Texture we need to see the texture. Make a render and/or upload the texture so we can see it. (preferably with the model)
3) It would help if you made more than one render of your final entry. (viewed from different angles)
4: Keep any renders at a max size of 640x480. (.jpg please)

Here ends the rules clarifications.

I'm trying to make it so that it would work like a real holepunch too:

he didnt say a single object, he said anything within sight of the computer

would modelling an entire room be acceptable? (my idea, please dont steal it)

also, r there any poly limits?

Ehh... tricky competition since I work in a white, completely empty room. No computer or anything, not even me. Just a white room with no walls...

Just kidding with you! My workstation looks liek a scrapyard, I'll see what I can find.

No poly count limit, (but if your computer begins to smoke tone it down we don't want any mishaps LoL)

pick one object only please, but if you don't mind, the idea of modeling a 'scene' might be used in a future compo. (It would be something different then the standard affair.)

Cheers!

P.S. Looks like a good start, we look forward to seeing the multitude of entries. (and have the previous winners defend their titles.)

to my knowledge it isn't but without one it takes you out of the running for best texture.

Ok so here is my current progress im makeing my logitech clearchat wireless headset (fyi dont waste youe money on one), currently need to add the on off switch and the charger port, hopefully i can be arsed to texture it otherwise it will be procedurals,

Im sort of modelling it with limited referance, just take it off my head and see if it looks right. sadly the real ones suck as a referance as they are coated in tape (they are really cheaply made and are held togeather purely by my cheapness and electrical tape)

Current poly count is 1408

more progress: pretty much finished the geometry and layed out the colours - time for a texture now. O, and it's also got an animation (i know it's not necessary but i thought i may as well).
Oh, and the sots are from DBP cos it looks pretty cool in there with the shadowing

Here's my current WIP:

The geometry is just about done, unless I plan on modeling the strings, turning pins and hammers on the inside--which I might since there's still more than a month left.

Material test:

The checker material will hopefully be replaced by an HDR image later.

EDIT:

Started on the inside:

My computer's not in my bedroom, it's in my living room, which is also where my piano is.

I might not be able to do this one, or at least not start it for a while. I'm leaving for college in a few days, so what's in my room now is not what will be in my room then. Maybe I can model my roommate.

Here is my entry, it still needs some work but figured this was a good stopping point to throw up a few screen shots.

I’m new so I am not quite sure I posted the pics correctly. The file uploader applet told me my files were over 50 mb even though they are only a few mb
