Bug Reports / DBPro 7.4 Editor Eats My Source Code |

I upgraded to the latest editor, but it looks just like the old editor. I have tried and tried, unsuccessfully, to keep my source code and compile, but it tells me that it couldn't compile the file: "c:/program files/the game creators/dark basic professional online/projects/MYFOLDERNAME//MYFOLDERNAME.EXE". It also gives me the dreaded Vista "Your program was stopped... Looking for a solution." message. Or it altogether, after several different tries to save my source, it disappears from the .dba or .dbpro files-- opening up the internal listing for the compiler or a BLANK CODE PAGE. What gives? I have been using DBPro for quite some time now, and I'm getting all of this? I never reported this before, since I figured it was my fault or something-- I had encountered this back when DBPro was at 6.8 and 7.0-- also thinking I had done something incorrectly. CodeSurge wont compile. Synergy Editor wont compile or saves blank. DBPro Editor saves correctly, but crosses something somewhere that screws up my source code. Even the backups that Synergy creates are blank... I've rewritten my code FOR THREE DAYS STRAIGHT...! I do not think this kind of BACKWARDS DEVELOPMENT is healthy nor is it any resemblance of FUN!... Please help... ![]() |

Also, the first time my source code wouldn't work, but I found a work-around. The second time, which was last night, before hopping off to bed, I had my text tiles working. This morning, I tried to reload my program-- it was GONE! I rewrote it and the editors refuse to compile and run, or give me the errors, as above... I am using an HP Pavilion dv6500, nVidia 8500M, Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo @ 2Ghz and Vista Home Premium. I hope this helps. ![]() |

Sounds like your files are going to the wrong folder. Have you tried a search of your computer for one of the missing files? You might find it hiding somewhere unexpected. I seem to have similar difficulties from time to time on my laptop and there's two crucial settings in the Tools/Options menu that I usually have to reset - see image. It's the locations of the compiler and temp files that get screwed up. In my case the problem probably goes back to an unwise decision on my part to install a second copy of DBPro from Dark Studio for testing purposes. |

They're NOT missing. They're in the same folder I named as my project. The source file (.dba) ends up BLANK and the .dbpro lists a bunch of compiler settings. What's going on? ![]() |

Sorry for sounding evil. I am very frustrated with this... I just wish, aside from the advice you are providing (which I will try), these kinds of things get resolved in the next update!... ![]() |

Yes, I read that once I installed DBPro from my Downloads History when I got this laptop. Thank you for your suggestions. What I have is three IDEs that work with DBPro: CodeSurge, Synergy and the one for DBPro. I do not know what to do, but to try to reinstall and follow the Vista Compatibility thread again... Unless there's something else that's cramping my code, that's not been checked yet... Here's the folder in question with it's media folder intact. Maybe you can determine what's wrong. ![]() |

When you reinstall DBP, try changing the install path to your documents directory e.g. C:\Users\John\Documents\DBP then this will rule out any permission problems on your computer. Synergy Editor - Available for free HERE! |

There seems to be a problem in your code somewhere (I know that's not the point of your post). When I run your code (on an XP machine - will try on Vista when the present thunderstorm has passed When I close the editor the new files are all there, so I'm not sure what the problem is unless it's one of those Vista issues that John Y has mentioned. I suggest you follow his advice and report back (I intend to do the same one day ... ). |

Thanks. I thought I was having problems, too, with it, but it's seemingly working... I was getting, using a fresh version, some kind of internal compiler error "somesuchthingy::EndName" I think... It was in a little window. Again, not sure if it's a bad setting on the IDE or if it's because of (**crappy**) I hate that blasted Vista... Thanks again. Hopefully, we can give Vi$ta a nice gooey amassed arse-covered size 14US steel-toe'd boot-y send off! LOL ![]() |

Just realised I said I'd check your program on my Vista machine - sorry. I'll try to find time tomorrow. One thing I did notice - there was an entry in the media section of your dbpro file that was pointing to a directory that didn't exist on my machine. I tried manually commenting out the entry but it made no difference. I guess you were using something like the Synergy editor when you created that project - I couldn't find a way of changing that media root folder using the IDE that came with DBP U7.5 Did I miss something? (Your editor screenshot differs from what I see, for example.) |

Working with YET another version of the same program. This is getting annoying... No matter! I will drop another post to the forums about 2D tiles and sprites, based on the ORIGINAL source. Thanks... Any additional help with this would be GREATLY appreciate. ![]() |

Green: that was the ORIGINAL that I lost. The new download was the redesigned program, including the MEDIA folder-- I just compressed the project folder and attached it to one of my other posts... I am dropping this to another forum about 2D Tiles-- in case there's something that I am missing/needing or have misunderstood. Thanks. ![]() |

The ORIGINAL would display the border and the map, but would not display any other tiles: the texts and such. It functioned until I saved it and it DISAPPEARED! I had the .DBA source file, but it became BLANK. The .DBPRO file listed stuff for the project and contained nothing about the .DBA file. After I lost the ORIGINAL, I recoded the proggy. It kept giving me fits about "image does not exist in line ###". I traced it using the "step through program" by putting PRINT statements in various locations. Once I saw that these were working, I couldn't figure out why the program would not display my images (PASTE IMAGE) using the algorithm I created. Just wish it worked... [moving this to another forum: "2D Tile Random Dungeon Crawler Assistance".] ![]() |
