Hi Guys,
I took my own advice and had a go at making an MSI installer for AppUp with Raw Setup 3 and after about four hours of head scratching managed to get it working (I think). The ultimately test is of course to run some virtual tests and also submit it to Intel, but using War Setup 3 is possible. I will produce something more readable (to follow), but for now my hints are:
1. Download 'War Setup 3' AND 'WIX Installer (V3)'
2. Install both
3. Download the latest Windows SDK and download Visual Studio
4. Download the DirectX SDK (for the 2007 Redist - up to D3DX_35.DLL just to make sure you cover GDK too)
5. Use Visual Studio to create a Merge Module project
6. Add in the CRT and MFC MSM files (from Windows SDK files)
7. Add in the DIRECTX Redist files into the merge module project
8. Create a custom action to run DXSETUP.EXE /silent
9. Compile the final MSM file
10. Create a new War Setup 3 project, and populate as usual
11. See User Manual for help with each property field
12. Specify the newly created MSM file (should be around 61MB)
13. Compile War Setup 3 project to produce final MSI file
14. This file can be submitted for validation
I should be able to make the final MSM available (subject to the correct licenses being observed) which should help you skip all the stuff about Visual Studio, so watch this space for more news (and my twitter account (@leebambertgc) as any work will be posted there first).
I drink tea, and in my spare time I write software.
