Wanting to make more games? Well, we’re running another small and fun competition!

The Task
We would like you to create a fun, horizontal or vertical, scrolling game in DB Pro in a similar style to that of games such as Doodle Jump (iPhone). And with Christmas approaching, we would like the main character in the game to be Santa!

What we’re looking for
* Good, well documented and tight code.
* Arcade sound and graphics.
* If it’s multiplayer that would also be impressive!
* Must be a family rated game.

Prizes
1st prize: $100 TGC voucher – The winner will also be involved in TGC’s top secret next project……
2nd prize: $50 TGC voucher
3rd prize: $30 TGC voucher

Deadline
We want to mention your amazing games in the next TGC newsletter so get your entries in by midnight on 28th November!

Good luck and we’re looking forward to playing your entries!!!

Answers to Questions in this thread:
Quote: "-Are there any programming software limits? (like what prog to use, DBPro?)"

DBPro or GDK is fine.

Quote: "-Can it be made with 3D graphics but having a 2D view or only 2D graphics? (like Super Smash Bros is 2D view but 3D graphics)"

3D or 2D gfx is fine

Quote: "-Where to post/upload/send 'em?"

User can share on the forum or a link to a download. Ideally users should make videos too

Quote: "what's your stand on teams(thinking two man)?"

Teams is fine.

Quote: "So we have to show our source code?"

Yes.

Quote: "does it have to be exactly like doodle jump or do you have any other vertical horizontal examples, or could it be anything along the lines of a decent horizontal vertical scroller. "

Like thenerd said, a decent scrolling platformer.

I'm tempted. BTW Doodle Jump is vertically scrolling. Can you confirm that the compo is for a horizontally scrolling game?

Does it involve TGC making money from someone else's work?

Thanks for asking. I've changed the post as the games for this competition can be horizontal or vertical.

Aff, I just made like the world's nicest sprite engine (it behaves like 3D with things further back in the backdrop moving slower than things further forward) so I could totally enter, I just don't have time. Too much uni work and stuff getting in the way this month.

Very cool. I have a few ideas I could work with.

Now I've never played Doodle Jumper, so is this a constant scrolling screen or does it move with the character?

Last what's your stand on teams(thinking two man)?

...seriously, my sig was deleted because of 8 pixels? Oh well, no hard feelings to the mod who did it.

Its thing thing where you jump on clouds and you bounce up and up and up. I've played the Pocket God version of it. But anyways it moves with the character.

I would enter if someone is willing to team up with me to do the GFX. It would be really nice to make a Christmas 3D sidescroller

Kul, I think I have a good enough idea, code named TERA Santa.

Good luck everyone.

Sorry for being impatient, but I think I have a pretty neat idea and I would like to team up with someone who can make some 3D graphics (such as animated Santa) without wasting time. Thanks and sorry if I'm being too pushy

I'm pretty sure it can be any gameplay really, as long as it is a scrolling platformer...

I like the wide variety of style and concept all the games have. I was expecting a lot of similar games, because its forcing a general idea out by saying scrolling christmas game lol

Hi, I would like to enter the competion, however I have a couple of questions.

How is going to be the next TGC project, does it has some money reward (or vouchers?).
Can I put in my web page that I made a game for TGC?

Thanks.

My one is a shoot-em-up with the family-comic type of violence that is in LEGO Star Wars.

If I were you, I'd make a game...

Huzzah! I found out about this a little late, but Imma off to a good start!

Still need a backdrop image, and the screenshots don't exactly make the gameplay clear, but here's what I got so far:

You get to throw presents at naughty snowmen! Also "Present" is synonymous with "Bomb". Huzzah!

Why not post your work in progress screen shots to the TGC gallery? It would add some seasonal images to the site.

You can use dark GDK for this! This contest is for all tgc products, not just dark basic pro... In the first post he mentions this:

DBPro or GDK is fine."

I have that same question, also another question: is there any requirement for the resolution to have the game run at? Mine is currently running at 1024x768x32, but if that will not run on the judging computers I need to fix that now rather than later...

My entry – Chimney capers is now at a stage it could be submitted.

I made a video of the game play – using a digital camera so the quality is not so good. It can be seen here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFOHawKio_c

Also will post a couple of screen shots as requested onto the gallery upload page.

Now how do I spend any limited time I have left?

a) Polishing the game
b) Tightening the code
c) Making 2 player option

I will only be able to do one of those.

Wow... That was amazing! I love the music, and the ragdoll effect on santa and the spiders looks awesome. The concept is very simple, and it works perfectly. My high score was a wimpy 22023...
