This thread is about my project for the Nexus 10 Competition. The game is called "Super Footie - Pocket Edition" and is an endless scroller game. It is still very much work in progress but I think I can make it in time. The game is supposed to be played on touch devices, but I only have the AppGameKit Trial Version yet so it is played with the mouse pointer.

Gameplay:
The goal is to run as long as you can without losing the ball. You will score points for running distance and getting past opposing players. Kicking the ball is done by swiping across the screen. This works like drawing an arrow. The length and angle of this arrow determine the trajectory of the ball. The farther you run, the faster the game becomes.

Features:
Simple and intuitive touch controls
Comic style graphics
Endless scrolling
Different opposing player behaviors (jumping, sliding, etc.)
Ball Physics
Online High Score Table (WIP)

Looks great!

Cool idea as well, would be cool to see it in action... maybe nab Open Broadcaster or something and record some gameplay for us.

I am the one who knocks...

Update:

Hi guys,
time for a little update. I have been away for a few days, but this project is still making progress. I'm still working on core gameplay elements but I think it will be in a playable state for the dead line next week.
But I don't know if I can find the time to produce a video or something. Maybe I'll just upload a playable beta version.

Enemy behavior is now more randomized to make them less predictable. This means their range and type of action is more varying.

I implemented a few new animations and effects. Also work on a basic menu system has begun. Nothing to fancy, but a game like this doesn't need to complex menus anyway.

I have refined the basic controls quite a bit. The main improvement is the ability to make combo moves. A combo counter is increased by knocking the ball up again before it touches the ground. This allows skillful players to up their score a lot by juggling the ball before lobbing it over opposing players.

Thanks!

Yes, I'm reworking the players, so they will end up with a face. But overall I'm happy with the art style and it won't change too much.

I'm also thinking about a goal system. Every 100 meters or so a goal will appear that you can score for a bonus. May be worth the additional work because knocking a ball into the net is fun

Here is just a small progress update. I'm in a bit of a crunch now until submission for the competition but I already have a very much playable version ready, just need to polish things up.

So sound effects and background music is pretty much done.
I also implemented a basic online highscore system that is functional now.

Back to work...

Thank you!

I'm already having a blast testing it

I have a few hours now to put some final touches on it and then I will upload it to the competition...

Final Screenshot for the Competition Entry.

So, I've made it in time and am very happy about it
I may write a little summary of the development process soon so stay tuned.

And good luck to all competitors!

I like it. I'm up there on the leader boards I'll let my son play when he is home from school and see if he can beat my score

Good job!

UPDATE - BUILD 1003

Bugfixes:
* Resolved a critical bug that let the game crash every time you have all balls unlocked and start a new game
* Fixed minor sound issues

Known Issues:
* Only if you beat your local top score it will be submitted to the online leader boards (the online system needs serious work done)

P.S.:
Thanks for the nice comments Matty, I'm glad you and your little one are enjoying it! I saw you on the leaderboards
Also Funnel is scoring big right now!
