Good luck. One idea which Corona had which I thought might be worth adding is a "best of the forums" article where any interesting or informative discussion was reproduced.

We used to have "From The Forums". The problem was the amount of time it takes to find enough threads. Rich Davey had 6 entries, when the forums were really active.

A lot of discussions that would warrant a thread by themselves are now condensed into the Posting Competition. It has stifled a lot of discussion because the majority of members don't venture in there.

Best of the forum sounds nice. Maybe someone who spends a lot of time on the forums can write those? Maybe different people for different boards?

A couple of other ideas -

- some sort of programming puzzle a bit like Ruby Quiz
- articles on particular bits of AGK2 - particles and so on
- general coding hints - modularity, commenting, using types etc.

There's an old DBPro series I wrote many years ago that can be easily applied to AGK. It includes things like creating functions for modularity, using types to manage assets, and templates and scalability using arrays.

However...there will be more AGK-specific tutorials in the near future.

I started a puzzle feature a few months ago. It went down really well and then hit a brick wall within 2 months. I think mini coding competitions would be more successful, with a wide scope for interpreting the topic.

I think one of the things that holds people back in competitions is their lack of ability or time when it comes to creating media.

Maybe a competition that concentrated on user strengths would attract more entries?

So for a basic example a "Create a Mario style platfomer" comp would have 3 prizes. Best gameplay, best graphics and best audio.

That format sounds familiar, but the difference here is artists just create a spritesheet, no coding and likewise audio guys just produce music and sound fx, no code.

Coders write the game, but must use the same provided generic spritesheet and basic audio. That way the only differentiator between the entries is gameplay.

After the results are known, the winning audio and spritesheet designs are dropped into the best gameplay example and we have a quality collaborative effort that TGC can use to best show off AGK.
