Hello, do you remember me ?

Sorry for having made of Damage a vaporware but not so long after the completion of the development personal things kept me away from the Internet for some time.

Still, I've managed to build the game and to come back, so, enough talk and let's be back on business !

A game by
Madcow

Short Description
The game focuses on action and exploring, much like Quake 2 and it is approximately one-hour long.

Story
Nethis, a desert-like planet.

On its surface, in a fairly remote canyon, lies a tower. This tower is one of the last remnants of a forgotten hostile civilization : the Raknos.
Once used by them to exterminate all of Nethis' locals, the tower became abandoned after the Raknos have disappeared without a trace, standing motionless.

A thousand years later

Since then, Nethis has been recolonized and the Raknos fell into a total oblivion, they simply don't exist anymore, even in the Galaxy's history.
Life is thriving on the little planet, despite lacking of any kind of government. Because of this, most of the cities are controlled by crime lords and nefarious criminals.

Since a few months, locals are reporting alarming facts about unknown creatures spotted in the plains of Nethis. But those creatures weren't the only eerie thing :
more inhabitants reported also suffering of hallucinations and terrible headaches after having stayed near the tower.

All of those informations could only mean one thing : there was still some activity inside the tower. Most of the crime lords allied themselves to conduct looting raids in the tower.
Unfortunately, at each of their operations, none of their men were coming back home.

Worried, they were forced to require assistance from the army of the United Federation of Planetary Systems, which was the actual government in most parts of the galaxy.
The Federation answered to the call, in exchange, their leaders demanded to establish Federal outposts into cities, for commercial purposes.

You are a bounty hunter, awaken from a several centuries long sleep by a mysterious AI called "The Patriarch". The Federation had hijacked the tower's security systems, thus allowing secbots to turn rogue.
Your mission is to protect its central core, in exchange of your freedom.

Additional Info
I recommend you to read the readme, because the game is rather hard and can be unstable regarding performance.

Sorry about this but you are not allowed to share the game in any way or form, including posting public videos on various sites, just post them as "unlisted" ones ( on Youtube ).

You can download the game HERE

What's next ?
You may wonder what I'll do now and to be honest, I don't know either. I was thinking about a new gameproject with a lot of humor in which the player would be in the filthy boots of a Redneck and have to do several (criminal) jobs such as robbing, destruction, murder... not really like GTA, but more like Kingpin : Life of Crime and in a brighter and funnier atmosphere.

Downloading now. Waited for this to finish
Will play shortly here.
best

Just player the first couple levels and must say "Great job"
Yes, it is a little hard, but that's the point. Great use of the
full screen shaders(loved the look and feel). Little things caught my eye, like the sparks coming from a damaged door or the pulsating
lights on a control panel. I even liked the level "loading bar" (nice clean old game feel).
Will play more tonight. Great job Madcow.

Nope, it's just a matter of health. I just got electrocuted (I tried about 30 times to avoid any damage until I gave up) and what little health I got left is not enough to survive the next enemy (tried that another 30 times too). Unfortunately I have no helpful save left because I used up a lot of health and ammo in level 6 already and have no saves beyond that.

I tried to modify the waterdeath script to avoid damage (or even add health) but that breaks the game, I also tried to modify the setup.ini to start from lvl 8 but that doesn't work either.

It's not the game's fault, maybe I'll replay it from the start next weekend.

@the storyteller: you can avoid enemy damage by using the "q" and "e" buttons behind cover.

I'm working on it also. Keep dying over and over, lol.
It's really a good game Madcow. Love the old game feel.
The robots are really hard to kill. (in a good way)
No help wanted, I'll beat this thing

In theory that helps and believe me I have tried.

But if you are so low on health that the first hit kills you - and the enemy is not so nice to stay where you can hit him with q/e without taking a single hit, its quite hard.

As I said, I have kind of played myself into a corner and have to restart some time - but thanks anyway.

Yep, I keep getting killed in level 6. It's hard.
Quote: "Wow, is the game so difficult"

No, I just have to be careful with my ammo. Very careful, lol.

One note though, found if/sometimes when I die and respawn,
I spawn "halfway" into floor? (get stuck) have to restart level.
No biggie..

It does happen sometimes yes, unfortunately I think there's nothing I can do against that. Even if it can be fixed, I can't because I don't have any of the source files anymore.

This was definitely one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had playing an FPSC game. With a few tweaks and extended gameplay, I would've probably even spent some cash on this. Congrats on having one of the most coherent, aesthetically appealing, and engaging FPSC games I have had the pleasure of playing! I look forward to any of your future releases.

I do need to ask for help. I'm kind of stuck on level 10.
I found and pushed all of the control panel buttons, but
cant find what to do next? No extra doors open or anything
else obvious

You have to push them in a specific order, but there is no way to know if you have completed the sequence correctly, the central door should be opened once it is done.

( You start each level facing to the North )

First, you have to go in eastern room ( the one in which a robot shoots you from below the gantry ), go down the stairs, then push the labelled #1 button and the one next to it.

Head to the west section of the level, and then take the left wing of the corridor, dispose of the robot and enter in the small room with the window to push the button located inside. Now backtrack and take the right wing of the corridor ( which will be just in front of you ) to enter in the room which controls the last lock. It will open the north door of the central room.

@Madcow

I really would like to see this game on Greenlight. 9 out of 10 "games" there made with FPSC are just embarrassing for everyone who seriously works with the engine.

Yours would be the 1 out of 10 that shows FPSC at its best.

Thank you, that's flattering. But it's very unlikely that one of my games comes on Steam one day or another, because my games are short, I don't have the amount of money necessary to have a Greenlight account, I don't know how it works and I don't like Steam, at all.

Finally finished the game Thank you! It was a totally enjoyable
experience for someone who like FPShooters. I can definitely say
it was one of the Best I've played made with FPSCreator. I only
wish more could play this today and see just what one can do with
FPSC classic. Two thumbs up Madcow, and thanks again.

Final note: Love the alternate endings, great idea!
I choose ending #1

I am downloading it tonight, Madcow, expect some two cents say tomorrow or friday, this looks like one of the most promising showcase games I've seen from FPSC in a long time.

I played the game for a bit, until I got stuck after the large room where the two robots spawn, I can't seem to find a way out, so far, I /LOVE/ the shader work and decal work, really nice putting, seeeing the jammed door with sparks was a nice surprise. The gun play is average. So far I'd give it a positive reception, liking it's display of graphics and disliking it's combat. Can you give me tips what the door on the dumbell room with the 2 robots do?

Hi !

I'm not sure to know which room you are talking about. The big one from level 2 with a "0"-shaped gantry ?

There is a switch at the end of the room that controls the locked door you have seen at the very beginning of the level.

I made it until level 4 when FPSC did one of his hallmark crashes while loading on me. Nevertheless, if you care, I can write down some thoughts I had about the game.

I really liked the level design, reminds me of a Quake/Half-life mashup. The combat isn't the best as most the enemys stand in one place, but I haven't seen much better in FPSC. Performance wise it ran great for me, not many slowdowns.

Great work!

Wolf:
Sure, do it if you want to.

Mr Bigglesworth:
I was playing to Quake 2 and its expansions during the making of this game. About combat, I don't know if it can be improved since I don't know a thing about FPI scripting.

Thank you !
