Ok, I've started a new project, and I thought it would be good to see who knows their Retro games well. Anyone can post a description of an old game for people to guess the name of.

My new Retro project is a Speccy game.
It's main character is an insect.
The intro is of a blue planet getting nearer.
He falls down a hole!!!

Can you guess the game???

No - never played any Spectrum games, apart from a tank game and Chopper Rescue...

I had zillions of speccy games but playing all of them at worldofspectrum.org to refresh my memory is not my idea of fun.

More clues!

Bugaboo the Flea. Fantastic game. Better clue would have been it also has a dinosaur in it.

I was going to remake that one a few years ago, but totally forgot about it

Think there was a sequel called Bugaboo the Fly or somesuch. Could have been a chinese whisper in school, as I never played it (and I has a *lot* of speccy games).

Cheers

Does that make it my turn then?....

Hmmmm.....

Ok, you are a ninja and it's basically a side on platformer. And there is a hangglider in it. Nice and easy that one.

Hmmm, they seem easy for you; then try this one :
- C64 game
- Platform game
- you are some round little alien
- there are some teleporters in the world
- the teleporters have passwords (so you can go there the next time you play)
- Here are three of the passwords : ASTRA, COSIN, MALIS

- Mind the gap -

Hmmm. Edit the post perhaps? Only Last Ninja before....

But no, tis not Sabateur, one or two. Although it is actually a sequel to a game. And it's by Durell. Now they were a sorted software house...

Ok, how about iconic 3 character platformy budget game? Repeat it's title quite a lot.....

Cheers

Hmmm. that's weird. Just played saboteur 2 - avenging angel, and lo and behold a hang-glider and a ninja type platform game. How is it not that!

It must be Saboteur2, I can't think of a Durell game with a ninja that isn't Saboteur 1 or 2.

Of course the best Durell game ever was Lotus Esprit, but all of Durells games rocked.

See if anyone can get this:
A mad sports game involving explosives and pigs.

Nope, this was released about 15 years ago on the usual 8-bits (Speccy, C64, Amstrad).

Beachhead 1
The C64 version by the looks of it.

That game could be a real pain - especially when you got to the fortress... But eventually I did complete it...

Of course it was Saboteur 2. But check out the spelling of the original guess. Not correct. Coff.

Spooky : Oooh... can't quite place it, but is the square a target thingy? eg. Move the sight over the target and it turns into a square. Rings a really really big bell.

Oh, and how about a game where you fly through tunnels, and have a race mode, which took up most of my time for one month. Top game.

Damn... getting that retro feeling again.... latest Retro mag is out BTW, with a CD of Gremlin games (Monty mole etc). Tops. And a section on MAME cabinets. Nice.

Cheers

Food? Hmmm. Thats annoying me now. Doesn't remind me of that Mr Wimpy game.... or that Trapper effort.... still, is late. More clues please...

Plus, there are several of mine still unanswered above... the tunnels one has a number in it's title BTW.

Heres an oldie:

- Platformer
- You were a guy with a hat
- You explored ancient temples
- You had to dodge Sankes and rolling skulls
- You could climb chains

Atari 8 bit I think...

Or the first Indi game perhaps?

Heres an easy one : An old speccy game that caused you to *have* to go into the attic last, otherwise the game needed to be fully reloaded.

Yes I'm making Bugaboo the Flea in DB. I'm going to have a classic mode, and a version with new worlds called Bugaboo Worlds.

No no, was Jet Set Willy. You had to do the Attic last or you would have to reset the game (cos it would cock future games up). Something like that.

Ach. Spooky's one is itching at me, but can't think of it....

Guess this one then: It had about 32,000 locations. It's sequel had double that. It fitted on a 48k Speccy too. And the third one was never released. Boo hoo. And I seriously wouldn't mind remaking it on the GBA (exists on PC). And the prize for completing the game was they would take your adventure and make a book from it (proper author and everything). Oh, and you had to print every location on a speccy printer to do this. C'mon, easy one here...

Oh, and Pincho, don't forget the scroll-look thingy where you can look a bit around.

Cheers
