Okay, here it finally is! Snowball Fight final beta release, v0.9!

Screenshots:

OFFICIAL SNOWBALL FIGHT WEBSITE:
http://walaber.dbspot.com/sbf

Direct game download link:
http://walaber.dbspot.com/sbf/binary/SBF_BETA_090.exe - Self extracting RAR, approx 13MB.

GAME FEATURES:
* 2 Levels to play in
* 2 Characters to choose from
* 6 Different Power Ups
* 1 or 2 player modes
* customizable controls, screen resolution, etc.
* Special Effects (including falling snow of course )
* Fully modable game engine. See docs / website for more information - includes step-by-step tutorial for adding characters/levels to the game
* Fairly impressive graphics for a freeware 3D action game

This project took me about 5 months of very hard work. I am pretty pleased with the results. If people enjoy the game, and I get some feedback, I will eventually release a "final version" with more characters and levels. Also if anyone out there actually takes the time to make characters / levels for the game, please send them to me! if they work, I'll put them up on the snowball website for everyone to download! If you have any character models lying around, you should be able to slap them into Snowball Fight pretty easily, with just a few animations.

NOTE!!
This is a beta release, so PLEASE give me any and all comments you might have, including problems / bugs you encounter!

one note not in the docs - if you put your own .mp3 files in the "media\music" directory, it will randomly play your favorite tunes!

enjoy the game, and please post here, or send me e-mail with feedback!

I will be leaving tomorrow (Sunday Japan time) for a week and a half... so if there are any "show-stopper" bugs (like files missing, etc), please post soon, so I can fix it before I leave!

looks very cool - no pun intended!
great work

edit:

your upper frame on your web page, when a link is clicked (screen shots, downloads, etc) the link disappears because of the white background and probably visited links set to white - just worth a mention.

Looks great, maybe you should put in a few more caracters though. It also froze up quite a bit.

Hey Wallaber...

Great game! It looks awesome.
Graphics are really nice, the scenes are original and varied ( between the two of them )
And, best of all, it's a fun little game to play

And Here is my stats.txt file.

The only little quirm is that the movement is a bit too sensitive, but, looking at the stats.txt, I'd put that down to my Video card.

Keep up the good work.
Jess.

the game runs perfect on my machine, at all resolutions... so I'm not sure what the problem is...

anyone else have any trouble?

What are your system specs? the snowball code hasn't changed any since the last demo.

well to be honest I think it's your video card. you're getting 7fps! So even if the game ran perfect, it still wouldn't be playable. you really need AT LEAST 20 fps for the game to play right. I have a strong feeling the graphical errors also stem from that.

have you tried the game in 640x480 mode?

It's all good

Also, I noticed that the 2D graphics seem to be slightly out of whack in all resolutions, but I would also put that down to my graphics card.

Well, all was going great until the CPU grabbed the snowblower on the deck. The snowblower appeared underneath the deck and when he came down the stairs the game halted... and now I can only see a portion of my screen

Had to kill it the hard way :/

But I do like the music and the intro moves, shishhhaaww yyaayy maybe some applause would be nice.. unless there was... hmmm

Yep, everything worked great until it went SPLAT

Didn't see any glitches in menu graphics or in game. EXCEPT during the loading screen, for example "Power Ups" has some dark blurring toward the top like it's wrapping the bottom of the image around.. but it's not much.. and your AI keeps kersplatting

yeah, the font isn't perfect... I'll fix that when I get back from out of town.. The AI could definately use some work. It's my first ever attempt at AI, and I think it shows. The game is much better with 2 people...

I can't think of why it would freeze... I'll try and re-create the situation tonight...

Hi walaber,
Already posted on LLRGT but this is so good I'll repeat it here

The overall presentation is without doubt the best I have ever seen in a DB game . The instructions, menus, intros, everything.......the attention to detail is simply breathtaking and not once do your standards drop. It's a clear indication that, with a bit of time and effort, you can more than match commercial titles for presentation. It's certainly made me think.

The graphics and music are all equally as impressive. It all looks great and the music is very appropriate. The only minor flaw I could see were some stray pixels around some of the menus and text.

Gameplay? Unfortunately here's where I've had a few problems. On the 1st level I've had 4 games and only one lasted more than about 5 seconds before the game froze. It only appears to happen when the CPU controlled character gets near the bottom of the stairs so I'm guessing it's a code problem and it's getting stuck in a loop (AI possibly?). On the 2nd level things are much better and I had a few good battles. The controls do appear very sensitive but I dare say I'll get used to that. Generally the AI seams pretty good although a lot of fights did end up as toe to toe affairs. Perhaps make the AI move around a bit more? I'd think 2-player games would be great fun.

And very pleasingly no performance issues to report even on my GF2.

So bar some tweaks to the AI and the freezing on level 1.......Superb

Okay I discovered the problem!! there was a problem with the waypoints, where the computer could get stuck in an endless loop!

For those who have yet to download the game, the new version is uploading right now. If you get a file less than 13MB, it's probably incomplete!

for those who have already downloaded, update your backyard.lvl file in the "media\levels\backyard" directory, with the contents of the CODE window. It's a text file, so just copy the contents, and replace the old "backyard.txt"... that should fix it!

Fog - thanks for the nice comments!! I must admit I was inspired by DUO's professionality to make a nice slick menu system for my game!

Umpalumpa sorry, some files were missing! It's re-uploading now, please try downloading again!
