[/href]DUMBO & COOL - ALPHA 1V5

URL: http://www.drewsgames.com/dac.zip
SIZE: 1.4mb
DATE: 17/1/05

VERSION OVERVIEW
This latest version introduces a lot of new stuff, and is the last version to be shown running on DBC. Be sure to check out the new graphical touches such as clouds overhead in first person view, the enemy AI, the collision detection and the sparkle on coins!

DEMO KNOWN PROBLEMS
Sounds are very low quality for download speed
Enemy is a placeholder model, with cubes placeholding bullets and knocked out FX
Speed: this will be sorted out when the project is converted to DBPRO

NEXT UPDATE
The next update will be running on DBPRO - until then, enjoy!

Looking cool Drew, have you done anything with the character textures? - 'Cool' looks quite shiny, like he has dolphin skin or something, not used to seeing that in DBC. I'll check out the demo tonight, might just be that screenie.

yea nice I like the use of dumbo and cool together to complete the level.

I found a bug, when you press 1 you can jump as long as you want. I guess it was an engine test

Anyway, nice game

Sorry for the belated reply - about pressing "1" ... that was for testing only.

The project is currently being coverted to DBPRO, albeit with great difficulty. By the end of February, I should be up to scratch though.

Very Nice. But please add in the ability for the characters to walk backwards. That would make it so much nicer.

Ohhh the diabolical 'stand-on-switch' puzzle, that's what we want to see
Looking great so far

If I was doing it, i'd also make Dumbo and Cool able to stand on one another, but that might conflict with some of the puzzles you have in mind, specially that high ledge Cool had to run up in this level, if you could stand on each other, Dumbo could just jump on Cool to get up... so maybe it's a bad idea

This is actually kind of neat.

My only complaint is the skates or speed shoes. need to be able to slow down, not just come to a complete stop.

@ Cellbloc Studios : Down slows down, is that what you were meaning? Or is it too fast?

Excellent game. I see a lot of promise in it. The first Dumbo was good, but this one will be twice as great with the teamwork mechanics.

Only critique I can give is to really make sound the next most important aspect of this game. Gameplay->Sound->Graphics
Perhaps when Dumbo(or even Cool ) is in the water, play some water swishing sounds along. Simple touches like that will give this game tons more atmosphere to what it already has.

Keep up the good work Drew.

MikeS - I already have some nice water sounds and effects....
Wait for the DBPRO version, that is looking much better already, with bigger levels and a tigher feel altogether.

Thanks for all the nice comments so far everyone
I now plan to add backwards movement, slower(?) braking for Cool and some more sounds.

yup looks good, keep going

Video games…they can take you places unreachable, impossible, unfeasible. They put you in the book...they put you in the movie...they put you in a world, a world that before could only be imagined.

Well, look up...are all these people suffering with broken computers?...doesnt look like it. Please say what has happened and we will try and work it out if its a random occurance or something that the game is causing and is a threat to others.
Just saying "Your game broke my computer" wont get any help !
Thanks

Interesting game you got there.. you could even start a little franchise! I see this game going somewhere with better graphics and gameplay. The only problems i got are:

- The shadows aren't always visible so hard to tell where your going to land.
- Rollerblades move too fast.
- I need to move back!
- General movement is kinda akward.

but that's just my humble opinion, great game anyways!

More information?

Thankyou for your honesty! The shadows problem has been fixed, and the rollerblades have been tweaked already As for moving backwards, that was a major concern and will be addressed soon.

Could you possibly elaborate? Is it the camera curve value? There will be an option to turn that down, off or up in the finished game.

Anymore problems?

Just had a play, and im very impressed ! the swapping and use of teir abilities was cool, the controls were pretty good (obviously the backward s key will be a boon), and the shadow is really useful for judging distance, which was what really annoyed me when playing the first game.
Nice one !

Yeah maybe its the camera curve value, i dunno... i guess i'm just used to using the mouse to control characters in 3rd person games like this, it makes jumping around a litte more accurate.

As for anymore problems... nah! The game reminds me of a stage in worms3D. Check it out, might give you some pointers on graphics.

one probem. after i scaled the big incline with the bad guy on top, he shot a bullet at me and when it was airborne i ran into the hint. after exiting the hint screen the bullet had a matrix effect and stayed in the air, still. i didnt think to check if collision still caused damage but this would sure have been a problem.
