Finaly, after almost two years of development, I have completed my first DarkBasic Projet: Apollo Lander.

The game is very simple: Land the lunar module on the moon. The score is calculated according to the distance from the objective, the impact and the velocity. After a safe landing, you can freely explore the moon surface.

Here`s a small trailer of the game.

Wow the screenshots look brilliant! The video is also very nice. But maybe you should animate the model of the.. person.. it looks as if it's just a pasted image. Anyway, nice use of shadowing, good sounds and the graphics seems to be good.. Good work.

You know, even if in photographs you can't see the stars, in real life you can, it's just cos the stars are too bright for the cameras to handle

Thanks all,

I known my astronaut is not very...real! I tried to create a 3D
model so I could animate the walking movements, but it did not look very good. I'am not very good with animations.

Thank you for the remark about the stars, I will add some in the background.

Good job!

I like those footprints on the surface

And about the stars, I'll always try to put them. Who cares if the real cameras have to use a filter and we cannot see them, they are there and they add some visual value.

Congratulations on completing your first game!

It looks very nice, especially for a first game. I do agree about the stars though, it would add a lot of visual appeal.

That is a very professional interface though, I like it.

Brilliant loading screen

Nice solar flare, it adds a lot

One thing I'd suggest doing is having the thrust sound fade in and out in volume so that it doesn't sound like a fm tuner that can't pick up a signal. No offense, haha

Awesome voice-overs. Very well done.

Perhaps you could animate the sun. I remember one thing I did for a sun in a space game was take two ghosted plains with similar sun textures, and overlap them. Now rotate them opposite ways, and always point them at the camera.

Great job, keep it up.

I just discovered this while exploring Diggsey's site via the webring. It's gorgeous! When do you think it'll be ready for release? Are you doing it freeware, shareware, commercial? I'm very interested in seeing the progress of this game's release.

And PS: The assets are fantastic. It's awesome that you used actual recordings from the Apollo missions and simulated it as well as this. You'll want to contact NASA before you launch this game, though... you'll need to acquire their permission to use their actual logo in the game.

Thanks for your comments!
I don't really plan to release this game because I don't have the "right" or permission for songs, images, logos and voices that I used in the game. This is only a demo to learn DB and how to make 3d models.

Hi Spaceman,

I have just seen your web site and your simulators looks great! Very professional. As you can see I am also very interested in space simulator. Normally the next step with my game is to add an option to land on Mars. Different gravity, lander control and a more advance astronaut control. But I`m now working on an add-on for a sailing simulator... Will see.

Here`s my email if you want to contact me about a future collaboration.

AFAIK, the recordings and any imagery from nasa are in public domain, I suspect you would only need permission to use their logo, you should contact them to find out. I'd love to play this game^.^

As for the songs.. that's another story.. You could replace them with alternatives that are ok to distribute..
