Yes, patents do have to go through a much worse/longer process to be "yours", but this is just a technique to say "Hey, in this envelope is my copy of the patent that I put in for processing, and on it is when I mailed it out," but you are right... you can't just do THIS and try to say that you own a patent, lol. I was just trying to say that it was a technique to use for in cases of when time is an issue in court.

[EDIT]
Yes, I do believe the confirmed max level count is 4, not 3.. I'm sure DarkFact meant to change that first sentence.

DarkFact, quick question...

I am not sure if this has been asked before or not. (Too many posts to sift through)

I know the maximum Layer count is 5, but... well, what if I need to put a ceiling on my top layer and I've already used 5 layers!!! Will you count that as 6 layers if I only use the 6th to put a ceiling on the 5th one?

Yeah, good point.

My main rooms in my levels are three stories high, but you cant get to the third story. Would that still count as a floor in the playable area?

1 layer (level) consists of a floor and a ceiling. You may have 5 total. If you start counting with the first "floor" being a 1, count "floor, ceiling, floor, ceiling, floor ceiling..." Until you reach the number 10. Anything above that number is against the rules.

So if I have 5 "walkable" layers and want to put a celing on the fifth level, that doesnt count?

And another question: I found some free plants I wanted to use but the creator is unknown, the only thing they know was that it was free. How should I do?

You may only have 5 "walkable" layers. Everything else is considered scenery. So work within those guidlines.

When you submit, just post provide a link to the free plants in your game [cover] letter.

Thank you, DarkFact, I'll keep that in mind.

And I take it, if I have things outside the limit but the player cannot reach them, then it's considered scenery and is allowed to be outside the limit of the dimension restriction?

That's horrible. Sorry mate. And by the way I know how you feel... sort of. My Xbox 360 gave me the ring a week before Halo 3 came out. Still waiting on a new one...

Hey DF, as long as we showcased some work, then we get the 20 points right? Because I wont get my home pc fixed soon and the one I'm one now is not the office network and well it wont be avaliable all the time.

I'd like to say good work to all the people who made the showcases!
I see a challenge!

1) Build your game, zip it's folder, send it to them. Don't use Phoenix, they need to verify ALL files used in your game, such as media and whatnot, to be sure that you created them after the start-date.

2) You can use any media you want, but it will not be counted as "custom media" unless it was created AFTER the contest began. (September 8th 2007)

Hey, DarkFact. I couldn't help but notice that you posted in everybody's contest showcase thread except mine! What's the deal? I'm starting to think you don't like me.

That, or you think if you don't reply then I'll get discouraged and stop making such a wonderful game. lmao, or I'm just kidding myself.

My computer can't run FPSC shaders (for one reason or another, the have never shown up). That sucks that I will lose ten points...

Is there a category on how good the game looks? It says custom media, but could I throw together some terrible media and put it ingame and still get the points?

Can't you just build it with shaders anyway as it will work on systems that can handle them..

UPDATED RULES

Use of Shaders has been replaced with Visual Appeal.

The latter is a bit more subjective, but should be easier for the contestants to get achieve 10 points whether shaders work for them or not.

Obviously, a segment with working shaders should be more appealing than one without. However now those whose shaders don't work so well still have an equal chance at the points.

DarkFact, I have 1 more question for you.

I think I read somewhere, yet i cant find it. That background areas in the distance on a level that are not playable are ok. Can not remember if this was ok or not.

However my main question is,
Can we have background areas via vertical levels?
Say entities or segments that are above or below the player, past the 5 level limit, yet are not playable? Is that ok?
(Oh, and Im not referring to the roof layer if using all of the 5 levels, as Ive seen that covered earlier, just wondering about anything above or below the 5 level limit)

Thanks.

Thanks DarkFact,
Yeah it was a entity in question and 3/4 of it can not be seen within the 5 playable levels anyway. Just wanted to confirm and thanks for the fast answer.

Question:

If we were to use media made by someone else (and apply correctly the use of their license) and they had made it AFTER Sept 8th. Would that count towards our "Custom Media" points? I mean, the people who are using it didn't make it, would that still count for points towards them?
