It was my understanding that the trial would not build a game. Has that changed or am I just thinking of something else?

Best.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

512mb RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 TX
XP SP2
Intel Pentium IV 2.61Ghz

My game runs at 20-25 fps

So will my game run miles faster on the judges pc's?

Im a new user, im young and FPI-dyslexic, i simply dont have the foggiest and cant learn FPI, so copy and paste code snippets please!

Most likely, but a good computer can't compensate for engine that it is processing, it really depends on how your game is made, but i would say yes, it will probably go faster on judge's pc's.

Can we use FPSC X10 for our game? Maybe there can be an X10 competition as well.

Using X10 is not fair. Some people can't run it.

EDIT: Given capital letters where appropriate. One handed typing.

TGPEG has point, X10 is incredibly advanced software. You need a top-notch computer just to run it. Not to mention it only being compatible with Vista and a Geforce 8800, which is about £300

Well, considering the game will be judged mainly on "Custom" everything in terms of graphics, I'm not sure X10 is going to have an edge of X9 users. That is, if the judges keep in mind that what they're seeing on an X10 made game is just what comes stock with the engine.

The only way I can see how an X10 game would have a better chance of winning over an X9, would be in the "Performance" department. Even then, a smart level designer will know what TO do and what NOT to do to make their levels run at optimal performance, regardless of what DirectX they are programming under.

Btw, can someone put me on the "Contestant" list if it's not too late? I may or may not have enough time to complete what I'm trying to do, but if I do, I'd love to put it in the contest.

I don't think of contests in terms of what I could possibly win, I just like to see how I stand up against other developers in the same genre.

Good luck, everyone. I hope by the end of it all, I'll not only have grown in skill, but will also have plenty of nice FPS games to play around with!!!

lol I just mean that there are teams with a ton of people that could make a better game, and for fairness sake, it seems unfair for people that aren't on a team.

I wouldn't go with "unfair" myself. They're going to have to figure out how to share the prizes if they win where you get them all to yourself if you win without a team. ~DF

I see your point(s) and I understand. However the game is being judged, not the game maker or teams. To be honest, I'm curious to see if a team can really pull it off logistically.

yeah teams are extremly hard to work around, with people adding peices and media and no one else having it, its quite a nightmare really.
Anyways im back to work on my game, since uni sorta screwed me up there for a while lol
also the prize list is looking ausome.

I don't need a team, i may be young, but i am ambitious, and clever as well...

Are you allowed to use PGPS in the game you make for the competition? because i recently got PGPS Advanced and wanted to try it out on an FPS i recently made, so would you be allowed?

Also, how do you make Custom Music? i mean, i dont have a MIDI Keyboard, nor the money for anything like that. How can you make custom music for free?

EDIT: Or can you use someone elses music and use that?

Im a new user, im young and FPI-dyslexic, i simply dont have the foggiest and cant learn FPI, so copy and paste code snippets please!

Hey there Darkfact. I'm looking forward to your comp as a way to get back into FPSC as I have been gone a long time. Count me in as a entry as I believe Silent Thunder and i are combining to produce a game worthy of your comp!

@FPI Scripts Copy and Paste: You have to send in your entry to our server zipped or rarred. Before we post a link to your game (after the winners are announced) we will give you the opportunity to submit a protected version.

@Urlforce Studios: Welcome back to FPSC! I've added you to the list. Good luck!

If i would have started by now i might have a chance but i had yearly tests 1 week ago and i have just come back from a holiday

Ok, I am really confused, in the first post it says an electronic publishing contract and then it says,
Quote: "Before we post a link to your game (after the winners are announced) we will give you the opportunity to submit a protected version.
"

So is the game being released for free or is it it being sold?

We will offer a contract to the winner for electronic publishing. This is not for the 2-4 level mini-game, but for a full version. After the contest, we will discuss with the winner how they wish to pursue the contract as far as game development and contract terms. If we come to an agreement, then we will proceed. Keep in mind that it is just an offering until both parties come to an agreement.

We will release the entries to the public to showcase your work after the comptetion, but not if you do not wish us to. That is also up to you.

@All: Please know that my intent for this contest is having fun, pushing the FPSC creativity envelope and fellowship among TGC members. If any part of the rules are not clear, please do bring it up for clarification. You might not be the only one wondering.

Ok thank you for the clarification.
Question: after we send the game to you Dave, can we also send a protected one that will be judged by the other judges or you protect it before sending it to them?
The reason is that if the unprotected game is only on your computer there is a lot less chance for abuse.

Hmmm, it says "mini-game"... whenever I hear that I start thinking games like in Mario Party and the like.

So what kind of "mini-game"s are we talking about? lol

Also, what if after the contest one of the winners don't wish to pursue their game further? Could they maybe... I dunno, hand the idea off to a more willing team and get some sort of royalty?
