Ok blitzfan, what amazing stuff have all the kick-ass blitzers done that is so good?

If I see another 2D light mapping program in blitz I'll shoot myself, Kevil made a great 3D light mapper in DBPro in the space of a couple of weeks. I personally haven't seen anything special in Blitz, and I have asked, we even asked top blitzers to show us something special.... still waiting. DBPro is being developed with real commitment, both by DBS and those clever .dll producing users we have here, Blitz3D is going nowhere - M.Sibly is too busy making Mappy and god knows what other tools, designed for BlitzMax, which is due out on 15th December 2046.

ya know that cubed demo below ... puffy said that its being called like something kickass on Blitz - but i mean i've put up some code to recreate the exact same reflection (which is the only bit which might've made people wonder how it was done) and that recode was done in like 5mins with puffy talking to me hehe.

(and i'm not by far one of the best dbp coders lol)

I must say, I prefer B3D's way of working, but the engine is inferior. Take cube mapping for example, we've had that feature for over half a year now.

"How many people have left blitz to come here?"

A few people, most of them only use the DBDN forums though, as they tend to be more serious about making games.

Although Blitzers generally hate the syntax, a few have been won over by the renderer, DBP (when not used in "nasty stretchy graphics" mode), looks nicer than Blitz, which is overbright and gaudy.

Yeah, there's foreign DB forums as well, lots of cool stuff happening on the german forum darkbasic.de - there's links to all the main forums on the darkbasic.com site. One thing about DB that stands head and shoulders above Blitz is the community.

Come on Antony and Redflame, when are you gonna miraculously appear and proclaim your love for Sibly and all things Blitz?

Visible Worlds was made in Blitz2D though, as far as I know.
And was by UW, but it is an application, applications don't make people want to buy a games creation language, cool games do .

i can think of one title which is just outstanding from Blitz3D and that "The Singularity" ... but then Josh seems to have pretty strong ties in the DB as well

maybe someone should ask him why he chose Blitz3D over DB/DBP for it

I used to use Blitz and DBE together, until I got Pro, then I had no real need for Blitz anymore. Its not bad, but for my needs pro is better.

Oh and You missed a lil Kangaroo out of the elite list lol *rubs his hands together imagining the 'shock and awe' tactics of releasing all my cool stuff at once lmao

Blah, all this talk about Darkbasic Pro being so much better yet not one single example of how this is so. If you can produce better, let's see it, AFAIK there's no decent examples that actually show these improoved features that arn't carefully chosen to avoid showing up the bugs and failures in DBP.

Take the shadow demo for example, works great until you start having occluded shadows or using complex objects (e.g. medium-low polycounts)then it's a mess and slow. Cubemapping has been a built in feature of DBP for ages true, but does it ACTUALLY work and how long has it been working correctly?

I've yet to see someone produce a DBP program that does what Rob's does and works. Looking at Raven's example source someone could have produced an equivlent demo in about 10 minutes but nobody has, there must be a reason for this...

Can you produce something as cool as this little demo which I knocked up a while a back?

[href]www.darkheartgames.co.uk/teaser.zip[/href]

Nothing particulalry special, but does show that realtime mesh deformation from 3DSMAX is a real working thing in Blitz3D rather than a maybe/possibly in Darkbasic Pro.

Enough with all this bluster, let's see something to back up these claims!

That's ridiculous. There are tons of excellent examples and demos on the web. I have yet to see a single solid playable game made in Blitz, or anything that demonstrates anything near the speed or features DBP has-- just a bunch of 3d demos, some particle systems, and some sidescrolls. Oh please...

Blitz games in magazines?

There's 3 or 4 that I know of that have gone commercial, and I know the guy who did them 2 or 3 of them.(maybe he did them all, can't remember)
We all go through the switching to blizt3d stage(I did when things got delayed at RGT), but it's worth it to stick with DBP.

Pluse we got a 10x better community going here.

sigh....
Who cares? If you think blitz is better.... by all means, go use it. No one can force anyone to use either one. If your interested in DBPro, download the demo and try it out for yourself. If you don't like it as much as Blitz.... DO NOT USE IT!

Both languages are good tools. What really matters though is the person click'n and clack'n the keyboard. Both DB and Blitz can get the job done. The question is, can you?

I've seen good examples from both languages. So... if you think either one can't get the job done, maybe it is actually YOU.

bah.. I'm finished. I should just save my breath.

Ahh this has been discussed a billion times and everyone knows pure basic is the best..nah j/k. but its great to. this has been said a bunch of times but its not the language that makes the game but the creator of course..sure there are bad games with blitz and dark basic but also in c++ to. i mean look at it you could program the next half life 2 in c++ but still program the crapiest pong game ever to so anyway the same goes with blitz and dark basic although you want be able to get up there with half life 2 you can still make extremely good and fun games with both.....and with pure basic, ibasic, etc.you get the point.
