Personally speaking, I think until Lee says anything, the migration is just another Riker 9. Just some more vaporware.

True, it hasn't even begun production, and those saying it'll be here by the summer, the exact same was said last year...

Jenkins,

When Lee says something, he usually sticks to it. I think it's not a case of if but when, because I believe in the end it will be completed. As for V2, that's pretty much definatly coming out.

He hasn't even mentioned anything about it for a little less than an entire year. Just because he "usually" sticks to what he says he'll do means literally nothing. There are several things that could've happened that will stop the production of the migration.

Until Lee himself says anything about it, this is vaporware.

Ok I am a little confused as I just purchased FPSC.

FPSC v2 is? More or less v2.0 of FPSC?

The "Migration" is? Newer version of FPSC x10 that will use dx9 and dx10?

I just read the newsletter and look what it said

Quote: "Now the original TGC plan was to fire up the migration work starting 2009 and blend X9 and X10 together but it would probably take at least half a year with testing. We gave the choice to the X10 guys, and almost all of them wanted to see an update to X10 before a migration version which allows them to compile to X9 systems"

Quote: "Our hope is that X9 and DBP guys won't mind a little side-tour to X10 land for a few months"

Dang, now I have to pick between the migration and Ply's mod?! Lee, why do you do this to us.

I personally don't see why the migration needs to be closed source; is it really just because of plugins?

Some people say that I'm crazy... And I agree.

Fair enough, X10 needs updating anyway. We'll get our gift in the end

Crusadar, you don't have to pick between the migration and Ply's mod. FPSC V2 will be open source, so you'll choose between FPSCV2 with Ply's Mod or the migration. If Lee implements some of Ply's mod, you won't need to choose.

It's closed source because of the DarkAI and Dark Physics plugins etc, which normally people have to pay for, so it wouldn't be fair on TGC to release the source.

And even someone proved that they owned the plugins, Lee wouldn't give them the source anyway, because that person could release the source causing a huge amount piracy.

So the timeline now looks like:

Release V114 for X9
Release the 1.09 Update for X10
Work on FPSC V2
Work on the migration.

Quote: "I read somewhere that radiosity takes a long time to build/create, so I don't think Lee will implement it. If he did, he would have to make it an option in Preferences."

It depends on how complex the scene is. Most people think it's raytraced and it isn't. The algorithm is actually fairly fast, A complex scene can go through 250 iterations in only a few minutes. I think 256 iterations would be enough for FPSC.

I don't know how the shadows from the static lights are created in FPSC, but I'd assume that they're raytraced. Radiosity would eliminate the need for that.

All that I want is for it to go faster.

For an engine that looks like this, its performance is ridiculously slow.

Woah! Slow down there man. Its....ALOT more than that...
DarkBASIC Professional and DBproX10 are built incredibly different.
The whole code structure is different...
Not to mention converting that code, replacing it with x9 code, and getting all variables to correspond with each other would be upright hell.

Riker 9 is vapourware??? When did that happen

There is not much more I want from FPSC to be honest. The only thing I really want is the AI to be updated so we can set allies as easily as in X10...

Bloom, Ragdoll, water etc would all be nice things but if we don't get them it won't worry me...

I personally think that the biggest problem with FPSC is that it is advertised with "Give your finished games to your friends, or sell them 100% royalty free"... Everyone sees that it says you can create commercial games with it and then they want to create the next Half-Life and get upset when it doesn't do everything that the Unreal Engine/Source Engine (insert other big name engine here) and gets upset about the viability of their "commercial" game...

Guys the copy and paste thing was a joke, I heard it on a Bungie podcast once when they were running out of time to make Halo 3, so the Project Leader asked why they couldn't just copy and paste the code from Halo 2 to Halo 3 The designers weren't happy lol.

I don't think this migration is going to happen anyway, seeing as he said he would do something about it last year, I guess coders will have to continue to unlock fpsc with there coding one slice at a time.

I got an email from Lee saying that the next source released will be the migration source. As 1.14 is based off a internal version of DBpro it will not be released apparently.
In any case it looks like the migration source will be released...

Well I've only just returned to these forums after a long absence and bought FPSC when it first came out. Not too sure which update it happened with but am already pleased with the framerate going up from 30fps to 38fps, any higher than that would be a real bonus imo.

I want AirMod support in migration! Lee has already included some scraps of it but the full-meal-deal would be glorious. 0.6 would be good. The future release Airslide has planned when the 1.13 source is released would be even better. Of course, Ply's MOd 1.07+ as well!

As the migration will be open source, there will be no need for FPSC V2. I'll update my original post. Sounds great, and I can't wait to see what mods come out of it.
