Time to start a new thread? Name it 'FPSC v1.18 Beta' like we used to have in the old days. This 70 page thread has had its time.

Just a thought

Is water present in the beta 1 of V118?

Thank you Lee and Hockeykid for this amazing update!

NO... tried it already. Lee needs to just put HM into beta8 so we can just use a real particle system editor.

I consider this thread to be for discussions relating to all forthcoming updates...it's Lee's decision whether or not to start a thread

Great news I have come here to see!

I'm using a slow Wi-Fi hotspot at the moment so it would take 20 hours to download the new update unlike my usual speed (which would be about 5 minutes)

I can't wait to get back to my fast internet!

Buy the way, I like your sewer model pack.

I am on a XP system, and I have not had to do the complete reinstall per beta upgrade.
I have had to put my settings back in the setup.ini file.
My install is on a second hard drive.

Is yours in a protected folder or something?
What operating system are you on.
Even on my vista machine, I have not had this,
but again my install is in a public shared folder.
"

Glad you liked my old sewer pack

Yeah it's most likely just me, I'm really useless at most stuff (I blame it on my age, because I can :p )
I only just got the hang of FPSC v1.16 (well kind off at least lol) and now v1.17 is old, as 1.18 is out. Time to overdose on some Sanatagen I guess

I also use XP pro and have all in public folders, so once again it's just me and my antique brain ^_^

Thanks Lee & Hockeykid, for a much needed an unexpected feature, because I never saw that one coming, and even though I have not tried it yet, the video looks great!

Quote: "Beta 9 is on the betafiles site, has instructions for particles.

Yeah, while I am downloading v117 Beta 9, v118 comes out.

This is great except for one thing; On my twitter page I had said...
"Lee just released the fifth beta for v117. I'll start production of the "Battle of the Dead" once the stable version of v117 is released."

As you can see, I am in a pickle now, because there was no release of a stable v117.
It went from v117betas to v118, so now I can never start production on my project.

Just kidding, I think he said something about 117 being released for MP 44 & 45 users, so I can run with that one for now.
And according the the FPSC updater, the Beta 9 was the stable release, which makes sense since it was the last of v117 betas.
Even though v118 is now under way, I have good a feeling about v117.009.

so with this new update, has anyone actually tried to build a large game? or does FPSC still not have the ability to do that?

I can't wait for the day that I can't beat an FPSC game in a night because it lasts for 43 levels of gameplay.

Edit: Tried the particle system and took a while but actually works decent. Would have better results with an editor but anything is better then nothing.

This is really good news that Lee has jumped to v1.18 (in my opinion anyway)
It shows that Lee on a roll and working well with Hockykid too I guess, they making a great team

I still remember v1.16 endless betas that never seemed to settle down (for me anyway) Yet I have to say v1.17 has been pretty much a complete success all the way with all/most the little niggles cured in record time

Glad I had to go out now and never got round to installing beta9, 1.18 here I come baby ^_^

@NBT:

Cool I had the same problem when converting lipsync files. I had modified my machine for a different application for best perforomance. Then I had to take my altimers medicine to remember what I had changed. Happens with age.

@Shaka:

Your welcome.

Anybody know if the new particle commands will be scriptable?

With the lip sync, can we use dark voices instead of the fpsc converter?

I think someone already suggested using the converter first, then tweaking it with Dark Voices, so I would think yes.

Try it and let us know if it works.

Quote: "So i guess..... there arent many graphical updates.. like the ones i requested... Dynamic Shadows..."

I think the lip sync is a major graphical improvement, as well as the ragdoll, particle system, and new shaders.

Be patient, because lots of good things are happening to FPSC, and at a faster rate than the new frame rates, which is pretty darn fast.

We can't expect every request be done at once, so I imagine some of the harder ones to pull off were set aside, so the others could be cranked out.
Give them a little more time, and soon we'll be having a hard time coming up with new features because it will have nearly everything.
It just can't all happen at once, and yeah we waited a long time for this, and it was worth it, so patience does pay off.

I like they way Lee and crew are doing it bit by bit, making sure each addition is running right before adding more. Rather than slap the lot in in one go and trying to sort through lots of varied problems.

I think this thread is fine. Also since Lee's always busy with the update, we'll need someone to add the updates to the main page.
Also, is there maybe a change list of v1.18?

Too much to do with too little time.

My opinion is to make a new 'mini' thread for v1.18 but keep this one open still and update it with main features and 'big' updates.

Lee, I uninstalled FPSC then reinstalled V1 and then V1.17 and everything was fine.

I vote on the side of creating a new V1.18, that way it could focus solely on 1.18 without having to hunt through 50 odd pages.

You rule!
I can see keeping them together since it is titled about the migration and not just about v117.
And I'm sure we will have pages of new posts of any new thread made in just a day or two anyway.
So, it doesn't matter to me one way or the other, whichever is easiest for Lee and Marc is fine by me.

okay, so instead of adding all the features in 1 update, lee is going on further as to make a second update full of more features? excellent! I hope attention will still be payed to the reliability.

1 Question: does the first beta of 18 have water, dynamic shadows, and new weapon animations already in?
And the new weapon animations are you doing all the model packs or just stock?

Give Lee a chance! He's just released V117 final and already released V118 BETA1. Clearly not all of the new features are going to be in the 1st beta. Water and dynamic shadows are scheduled for V118 or V119.

@SpyDaniel

The ragdoll script is not being included in the official release as it conflicts with the products age rating. You can find 3rd party ragdoll scripts for FPSC V117+ by searching the forum.

I'd like to see a V118 technical thread where Lee talks about the technical aspects of the new engine in detail. I see he is doing video blogs now so I would love to watch an hour long technical keynote for the new FPSC engine by Lee.

Does this mean going back to a modded game exe and not using 1.17 at all? I specifcly put a pause on doing any more builds waiting for the stable 1.17 because of improved frame rates and the ragdoll...

New update makes it all worse for me
Segment that shows up only half.
Flashing entity's.
Shader no longer works for me.
Sound problems.
I had no problems with the testmap the Metro Theater Showcase map and Update 16.
Whit 17.1-9 it does not work.

photo is beta 6,but it also looks so with the the latest update.

Back to 16 for me

No, the ragdoll is there, you just need a script off the forums to be able to use it.

This thread is getting kind of lengthy - I'm thinking Marc Steene should make a new V118 thread. That way he can keep all the latest updates going in the first post, and we'll also have a fresh start for related discussions. It'll make everything easier to find.

Will this version or 1.18 include the player legs?

-Why didn't God take gaga, justin bieber or kesha instead of Randy Rhoads, Cliff Burton or Dio?

-A good game is made of what you put in it, not of the features of the engine-
