Funny you should ask that because, just under an hour ago, I received an email saying it had passed validation

Thanks so much baxslash and Hodgey for testing and thanks especially to Juney and baxslash for the excellent guide on getting through validation with the War3 Setup and Orca. Couldn't have got it passed without all your help!

Excellent. Thanks, Steve Vink.

Quote: "How's your adventure game going TheSlayer?"

It's going good at the moment, but not much to tell, so I think it'll be for another newsletter. I'm going to finish the first level any time now, so I'll most likely start the WIP regarding the adventure game.
Also, I just sent you an email with the new banners.

To all: if anyone wants a different version (colour change) of the new banners, just ask.

Great news, Lucas! Well done!

Here are the images TheSlayer has provided for sigs and the banner.

The 700 wide image is for the banner so only use the 600x120 images for your sigs...

Hope you like mine!

Thanks guys. Really nice work with the banner Slayer!

In a final twist, although RADAR has passed validation, it is not actually yet published. The times suggested it was but when you factor in the ambiguity of two radically different time zones, British Summer Time and working out what 12:00am actually means, it turns out that it should go live at my 8am tomorrow. Anyhow I'll get to work on my version of the banner right away! Your two are looking great. Lets just hope I can come up with something as good!

EDIT: I'm a bit confused about sigs actually. baxslash have you gone through all your posts and edited them to update your sig? It's just that yours all look like your version of the ADG banner but I found that when I changed my sig, it only changed on new posts..

Congratulations Lucas!!! You are welcome for any beta testing I did, I had fun . Good luck for when RADAR goes live!

Quote: "baxslash have you gone through all your posts and edited them to update your sig?"

I don't think he has, just the first couple of posts because when people click on our sigs (which links to the front page of this thread) the first thing they see is Baxslash's welcoming post so he has to keep it up to date. But if you scroll down, you will find that his signature doesn't stay the same. This happened to me aswell, only changes in my latest posts. So, if you go looking around the forums you get to see a history of signatures!

Wow, nice work on those sigs, guyz! Looking great. And, its a nice feature that teh sigs link to the TGC ADG thread.

Quote: "Really nice work with the banner Slayer!"

Glad you like it. Hope to see your sig really soon.

Also, if someone wants a variation (other colours) of the banners, let me know, k?

Cheers

Normally when you change your signature it only changes the subsequent posts but when I edited the first post in this thread it updated the rest as well... not sure why...

I'd really like a dark / black background with red lightening letters... kind of Darth Vader-ish

Everytime I see your sig Batvink I feel like playing Pile Em Up...so tempting.

I need you to be my advertising guy!
Somebody somewhere is playing, I keep getting the odd ad click, and it's not validated on AppUp yet.

Quote: "Normally when you change your signature it only changes the subsequent posts but when I edited the first post in this thread it updated the rest as well... not sure why..."

If you replace your image with a new one - same name, same location - then it will replace it everywhere on the forum, it retrieves it every time. If you create a new image with a new name, it will only appear on new posts.

Congrats on your app submission and validation!

@The Slayer
Congrats on your banner win!
Don't have time now, but I'll be sure to replace my existing banner with a new official TGCADG one later today.

Hey, cool: new name and new banner!
Unfortunatly I was too busy to vote but I'm fine with the results.
The banner looks great!

Meanwhile I received the test results for Colony Defender from Intel. Unfortunatly I got rejected on first try but I'm not really disappointed. I already expected chances to be slim to none as I kind of rushed through the whole process

They reported that the "Application does not launch from the AppUp client" (ILU03 - Application launch). I attached the screenshot that they sent me.
Well, it just says that the installation failed with error code 511. Where can I look up those error codes? It could be anything
But I guess that the main issue is that I didn't really include the VC++ redistributable in the MSI. Does anybody know how to do this?
The next problem may be that I didn't do anything with Orca, as I saw the PDF guide after I submitted the installer...

I hope someone of this awesome group can help me along so I can get this fixed as soon as possible

Haha, I would be honoured.

I when I got home today I logged on and saw your banner and had to have another go at your game. Here is the result, I had to crop the two screen shots together and size it down, hence the duplicate claw, cloud and scores. It has been joined at the police jeep.

@ The Slayer, the red banners looks ....(I'm running out of adjectives)...fantastic (I don't think I've used that one) except I think the text is a bit hard to read with the electricity being a very similar colour.

Fantastic looking sig Slayer.
I don't know how to link to the first page, could someone explain please? (I used to do that years ago but I forgot how )
Finally changed my location from Denmark to Tailand.... Mister procrastinator.
Progress on The Tarinna Duel has been slow due to laziness and my wife's family visiting for 3 days but it's picking up again.
Still stuck on a few really annoying bugs but ohh well, just need to find the motivation to get a can of bug repellant and kill em all.

Sure, what you do is in the [href ][/href ](without spaces obviously) you insert the url of the webpage like this [href=www.whateverwebsite.com ] insert image tags/image here [/href ].

Quote: "Finally changed my location from Denmark to Tailand.... Mister procrastinator. "

So did you move to Thailand a while ago but just updated your profile or you finally actually physically moved to Thailand?

Great, thank you!
I hope that did it!
I moved to thailand over 6 months ago, major procrastination on changing my profile.
Maybe why I only have 1 project under my belt and like 20 unfinished wips in my project folder!

@_Pauli_, if you follow the steps in the guide for creating the installer you should be able to avoid this issue. Here's a link: AppUp Developers Guide I had a similar problem that was not down to the installer once, I think I fixed it by just recompiling but your App will not work without the DBP Merge Module or by including the redistributables...

Quote: "The next problem may be that I didn't do anything with Orca, as I saw the PDF guide after I submitted the installer..."

That would also cause a failed validation. Take your time and go through the guide one step at a time and you should be fine.

@TheSlayer! Nice work on the banners. I guess we have our own resident artist now

Quote: "Maybe why I only have 1 project under my belt and like 20 unfinished wips in my project folder!"

I checked my folder and I have around 140 games for 7 or 8 published... so I guess 1 in 20 isn't so unusual

For anyone interested here is a link to Lucas Tiridath's game on the AppUp Center:
RADAR

You may have noticed that I've spent some time putting links on the first post to all published games!

Yeah it's funny, it's extremely easy to find (What seems to be, at first) original ideas for many many projects but never actually finishing for a multitude of reasons.
I have high hopes in The Tarinna Duel but I doubt it's as original as I thought it would be.
And at this point rather boring too since I haven't implimented AI yet.

EDIT: Great job with the links! RADAR looks awesome! I wish I had a netbook!

I don't think I could come close to making up or even thinking up 140 games, you must have quite an imagination .

You don't need a netbook in order to purchase and use apps from the AppUp store, it is just that they are geared towards netbooks.

That's one hell of a stack Hodgey, I have never even attempted to try that.

It looks great but I don't think TGC will want you to change their logo colour scheme. I spoke to Baxslash and we got the okay from Rick for your winning banner to include the logo, he was happy that it was professional enough to use the logo.

Good point Batvink, didn't think about the colour of the TGC logo being changed...

I've been playing computer games for over 30 years now. I have quite a store of other people's ideas to feed off too!

I've have tried to make a pile up with a single stack of vehicles a few times but never got passed the 4th or 5th vehicle. I guess that I got a lucky order of vehicles to work with .

Well that explains it

I found that my anti-virus used to interfere with the connection of the AppUp store. When it was on, it couldn't download anything so I just got the loading icon but when I turned it off, I could see all of the apps and info. So try turning your AV off and then running AppUp.

Wow, so much has gone on in the last 24 hrs, missed most of it after the banner result.

Well done Lucas, i'm really pleased the MSI guide works.

@Pauli - do what baxslash suggests and if you get stuck drop another post and i'll try to guide you through what you need in each Appup folder before you create the msi and then edit via Orca.

2-Reboot
3-Re-install

Thanks guyz for teh comments on the banners. Makes me so happy.

@Hodgey:
Yep, the red text on teh Dark Vader sig, is a bit harder to read, but I could fix that.

Hehehheh. I dont mind. I'm glad to help wherever I can.

Good point about the colours of teh TGC logo. Just wondering though, is it okay to have different colour themes for the banners, without touching the TGC colour scheme?

Quote: "I also changed my signature, hope u like"

Yep, it loox great, Juney! And, the link worx.

@BatVink (or another mod):
I have a little question about our sig. Can we have two sigs at once? Cuz, I would like to have both my 'The Slayer' sig, and also teh 'TGC ADG' sig showing at the same time. Or isn't that allowed?

Cheers

I imagine that it would be fine but it is probably a good idea to get confirmation.

That's probably why we can't see your sig when we aren't logged in. When you try to view an attached image when you aren't logged in you will get the message "you need to be logged in to view this...". Hence we can only see it if we are logged in

I love looking at all of the sigs now

The rule is 600x120, so you could have 2 300x120 banners.
The other option is to link to a web page where you have as much space as you like to display your wares, like baxslash has done.
[edit] Sorry, baxslash links back here. Like baxslash used to have

Just done a bit of experimenting and the answer is Yes but with restrictions.

I have just placed a 2nd complete link in profile/forum/signature beneath my new one. initially it came up with an error "must be less than 200 characters", so with a bit of tweaking - voila.

What "comands" have peolpe used to centre their signatures rather than them being left justified?

I'd be surprised if TGC will let you do this; even though it may be technically possible, from what BatVink said earlier, you have exceeded the maximum dimensions allowed (total 600x120) as your first one by itself is that size...

I just posted a 'working' version of my worms clone 'engine' in box2d so I thought I might get your thoughts here too. It'll be called "Vs" I think and I'll make it easily modable to create your own characters to play against each other...

Vs early demo

Keys:
Left/Right - Move
Space - Jump
1->4 - Choose weapon
Enter - Fire/Release

@ Lucas, nice banner!

@ The Slayer, I was going to suggest combining your signatures but I thought you would have done it by the time I mentioned it. Looks great btw.

@ Baxslash, had a quick go at your game and I think that it is the kind of game that will take off in the AppUp store. One thing though, I love explosive weapons hence I love the grenade launcher but almost every time I used it, I actually couldn't see where the grenade went. So maybe you could implement an arrow system which has a magnification on the grenade or just a grenade icon with an arrow pointing to the grenade. One last thing, the fps seems to hover around 4 but since it still plays well I assuming you are using TBM? Anyway I was playing and the fps reported sky rocketed to, your will not believe this, 40000+ for a breif moment. I didn't have time to grab a screenshot and yes, you are seeing the correct number of zeros. Then it dropped to 540. Weird but an excellent game Baxslash.

I think i was hoping for 2 signatures each of which could link to a different web site. Guess this isn't possible unless each signature is halved.

How did u get your sig centred?

Just put your whole sig in between
, and it will be centered.
