Damn, it's high, 7k faces without subsurf. Half of them must come from the scope. I'll see if I can reduce it. And thank you very much!

try rendering your pictures in perspective view-mode, not orthographic. It will look much more professional. but nice model you got there.

I'm sorry, but since i cannot use inset and extrude, i'm extremely limited to what i can do. I thought the flashlight was very cool for being a model made with these limits. But noone else liked it, so now my heart is just destroyed.

Wait wait wait, what? No... Your models don't suck, they're awesome... Just because you think someone else's models are better than yours doesn't mean you should give up. Look at my old stuff. It sucks. But I've become a lot better since I started. You're always getting better. Whether you notice or not.

Huh, that's not the case at all. It's just that i can do much better than you have seen on the images. And it's all because inset and extrude causes errors in fps creator.

Though, if i make a model that causes an error, it would be good if i had anyone i could send it to for fixing. Anyone care to do that for me?

Henry offered and I can also look at the model. I find it hard to believe that a modeling function is causing problems. What program and exporter are you using?

You kids these day have it easy. when I first started I was using raydreams 3D and extrude didn't exist.

I'm using 3ds Max 2010 with PandaX Exporter. Now that you mention it, maybe the exporter is the problem? Any ideas of good exporters i can try out? Uh, any good X importers for 3ds max? I would like to make some custom room segment meshes, and to do so i'll need to import a stock wall to see the position and size.

The wierd thing is that the models work in the editor, but not when i test them in game. When using static lights, the errors comes up when it says saving and optimising universe. And when i use without lights, it crashes after i press the test game button after it have finished loading.

Zwarte Piet, here's the flashlight you wanted to see:

I know it sucks, but i'm using extrude and inset right now to try to make it much better. After all, i'm very new to modelling.

For only modelling for 2 weeks that's awsome, only complaint would be that it's way to thick

Thank you Zoq2. J Swain, I liked the flashlight. If I had to download a flashlight for a game, that one would just be more than fine! But don't worry, after all, we are new at modelling. You will see that the more models you model, the best they fit in your eyes! I hope you continue modelling and good luck with it.

i always use the panda exporter i use the basic settings here

http://www.thegamecreators.com/?m=view_product&id=2001&page=CharacterStudio

as stated before if you send me one of your files i will take a look at it for you ( dont forget i cant open max 2010 files so .obj is the best format for me)

cheers henry

I'm pretty sure changing to those settings won't make my models work.

Let me tell you in 24 steps exactly how i do when creating a wooden crate:

1. I create a cube
2. I convert the cube to editable poly
3. I select all the polygons
4. I use inset on those polygons
5. I extrude the middle polygons inwards
6. I add UVW Mapping modifier
7. I select the box option
8. I add Unwrap UVW modifier
9. I unwrap
10. I save that UVW template as a png
11. I create the texture in Photoshop CS5 Extended
12. I save the texture
13. I try the texture on the model and maybe render it
14. I export the model as an X file using Panda Exporter
15. I use a stock FPE as a base for mine (the same as the one on the working entities)
16. I write what is needed
17. I use that rendering i made and create an icon and save it in the same name as the fpe in bmp
18. I move the stuff into my J Swain folder in entitybank
19. I take the common floor segment and make a platform, add a static light and a player start
20. I add my crate
21. I test the map
22. It loads until it gets to "saving and optimising universe"
23. It crashes and a window tells me i'm using too many levels (even though i'm not)
24. I get depressed and lose all hope

fpsc ready model gos in game fine for me apart from an error with the model (i think its your export settings)

.obj made fpsc ready by me works fine

my way

as yours up to 10 i save my uv as .jpg
12 i save the texture as psd & apply to model in max
13 collapse the stack & export with panda exporter using settings above
open .x & make fpsc ready with entity workshop
21 same as you
22 works like a dream

as i said i think its your export settings not your models

if this doesn't work try re installing fpsc you may have an error there

cheers henry

I did it with exactly the same settings as you told me, but still crash.

Well, for the moment, can i send you the models so that you can make them fpsc-ready?

Did you like that model i made, Henry?

@J Swain

Henry is right. Whenever I make a model, I simply take the .x and the texture into entity workshop and it places it in fpsc for me and is always ready for use. You have to make your own .bmp icon, but, everything else is fine.

You will need to edit the .fpi file to meet your needs (status entity, weapon pickup, item pickup, etc)

Here's some models i've made:

The red container, cable spool, computer, school sign, sawhorse, garbage can and blue skip is based on photos i've taken myself.
Traffic cone, milk carton and cardboard box (old and dirty) is textures made in photoshop by me.

The rest is based on photos from cgtextures.

Also, a note on the milk carton is my character; Darkstar. You can find my drawing here: http://miss-weavile.deviantart.com/art/What-is-it-DIGITAL-273247904

Jessica,

Impressive work all around. You have a natural talent for this. I can see by your textures, both photo and handmade, that you understand realism comes from imperfection. The only improvement I can think of is that you apply that same understanding to your mesh.

If I built that crate, I would never let it ship. It's lovely! I can tell that the person who built this is a Master Carpenter who has taken the time to hand selected and plane each board and miter every corner. It perfect!

Don't be afraid to leave some loose ends, slant a board here and there, get a little sloppy!

That's all I can think of. I wish I could texture like you and Henry but I guess I'm going to have to settle for just being extremely smart, handsome, and modest.

Brian.

Nice models J Swain.

Hello there again! I did this USP .45 after playing COD MW3, I did it in 30 minutes so if there is something wrong with the model please tell me since I didn't gave it too much of my time. I hope it's good. And about the sniper, well, it was way too high poly for a game. I will have to create a new model of it.

This one has around 1k polys so it's perfect for FPS Creator. I will now work on the texture. Thank you for your time.

Keep up the good work,
The Hitchhiker.

Here's a model i made using a photo i took some days ago:

I wish I could contribute, but I'm busy and don't know enough about modeling, let alone UV mapping and texturing, to do anything (Anayar has kindly lent his help to me numerous times in teaching me; I just have to read his material and watch his videos)

The least I can do now is say thank you to all of the contributors.

One critique; the weapon hands look at bit too shiny for hands and look somewhat weird. But this pack is great! Thanks for all the work guys!
