Hello All its Been A while since I have made any attempts to fabricate a First Person Shooter.

I would like to present Falter: Rebirth.

Think of the story lines from both Metro2033 And the Halflife Series
smashed together and remixed into a fpsc capable project.

I'm not promising anything.. so far the creator has successfully built two of my over detailed maps. which is good. gives me hope in actually finishing this project.

Anywho...

here's a little background on the story.

You're 20 years old living in a post apocalyptic time.
The year is 2145, Nuclear Aggression has forced mankind underground in most areas. major cities are uninhabitable and the smaller cities and towns have been reduced to nothing but ruins. This is the world you live in today. outside of resistance stations, is a cruel environment. Zombies, Cannibalistic Cults and the New World Order Force "Czechoslovakian Soldiers brainwashed by higher authority as puppets to their rule."

The project has the cash system developed by Conjured Entertainment A Call Of Duty Style Health System, and many more features to be added.

There is a rough beta available. which is the 2 level test executable I built.

It's looking quite promising but would you consider changing the control scheme? Specifically the pressing "return" for action because you need to move your hand to do that. You can change the controls from the build game menu but I expect you knew that . Besides that it's looking great! Can't wait to see more

Put some work into it, and you can be one of the best!

dude this looks awesome! I'm glad to see you working with FPSC again. I say, keep the controls. I like the idea of pushing enter to use/activate stuff because IRL you'd have to take your hands off your gun most of the time.

Exactly my point Bugs. which also encourages me to insert death traps in the game. two words- Mine Field. enemies shooting from dug in bunkers and youre running across a minefield shooting back to dubstep? O.o This Games soundtrack is nothing but dubstep and hardcore drum n bass. and thanks for the compliments even though i havent been in the dev department in a while i still pop in to see your stuff.. top quality model packs and lamp textures man! i love the cyberpunk stuff youve been comin out with, i might need a little help from ya too on this one. skype me later tonight when you have time. its been too long

Yeah, I guess you're right Bugsy. I never really thought about it that way. Anyways I'm liking the story so far. Keeping my eye on this one!

Yes, that is true, but I don't really like taking my hand off the WASD keys or the mouse to open a door or something. Sure it may be realistic, but I don't find it fun, which is what games are essentially about, having fun. But anyways
The game is looking really good! Liking the screenies and hoping to get to play this someday. Looks quite different from the other zombie shooters from the forums (which all tend to look very much the same, even mine ), for one thing it's not way too dark. I actually like how well lit everything is. Good job.

Thanks Metal Devil. The Enter to use is staying the way it is.

This actually isnt a zombie game. They are in it but they arent the main idea.

Zombies are in this game maybe 4 times.
They are more like a wandering horde thats seen not too often.

There are soldiers and cannibalistic bandits and whatnot as well.. along with mutated animals.

Enter to use is truly annoying and adds nothing to the game. If anything it detracts from the immersion into the game because now the player has to physically move his hands from the mouse to the keyboard.

Only if it's a two-handed door or you have to pick the lock or whatever.

Game's visuals are looking good, when can we see some gameplay?

Hi Armageddon. The game's looking quite nice so far. Can we see some gameplay footage?

You should consider making "Activate/Use" the letter "F". Using "Enter" would more likely irritate people because it's just an inconvenience.

I can try for footage but i do not know how well this pc will handle HUDR. amd thankyou for the support!
(Fraps) for example

If anyone can help me with an animation for the EAI weapons that when near a usable object such as a switch, door, etc, the players left hand reaches out off the weapon currently held, if knife simply display left arm with same anim. in return i will provide professional audio engineering support.

I beg to differ. The stock door scripts are tied to using ENTER and the engine also uses ENTER as the default key for the PLRUSINGACTION condition.

I've always enjoyed seeing your projects over the years, and this certainly does not appear to disappoint. In fact the opposite, I love it! There's a very visceral feel to the images so far, and they suggest great entity placement and flow. Of course gameplay footage always tells more, looking forward to seeing this progress either way though. Looks promising!

As for the Enter versus F debate for activate/use, my two cents would be a vote towards having the "F" key used. Considering most games are E or F for activate/use, it just makes sense, and like Landman pointed out, would be far more convenient. I can understand the interesting idea and points behind leaving it as "Enter", however to be completely honest, at the end of the day you're simply trying to make a fun experience for the player. Controls are going to immediately take a back seat to the action and story, so convenience here makes most sense in my mind.

Good luck with the project

Life would be much easier if I had the source code.

The game looks really interesting.

I like the split of dark levels and lighter levels. (keeps everyone happy)

The last screen shot of the external map looks very well put together and like Astek mentioned, its very original.

However, you can see that the texture job on the rocks is a bit poor; looks like the texture is leaking over as though someone has UV mapped it from projection view rather than unwrapping it properly. It's a simple enough entity to make again though. (probably not even that important as the player might not even see that view of the map?)

I really liked your menu theme music.

I have dabbled in a bit of music production when i visited music tech college all those years ago. I can see you have really layered up the track and have developed a lot of versatility throughout, managing to change genres - quite a lot. If i could give you my opinion, it would be keep the first 1:20 of the track, fade it in at the intro and fade it out at the outro and keep that looping. The other sections like the ripping saw bass towards the end of the track and the other moog sounds would be great as a stand alone track.

I composed a very simple track for my menu and just kept it looping and i think its effective.

Anyway, that's enough from me for now.

Good job on everything you are doing so far, keep it up.

Indeed, the last screenshot doesn't look half bad - definitely something different that you don't see too often in FPSC games. Hope there'll be more of such scenes!

Ty Pain! This project is big. I have a couple contributors.

Progress is Coming along great!

I need someone for benchmarking and Screencaps of gameplay.

My laptop isnt strong enough for all the detail and shaders with fraps all at once to record.

Once I have the help from someone with a supercomputer lol, there will be a trailer up.

Armageddon Games I would be more than happy to do that for you. I recommend using MSI Afterburner its way better then fraps. its lit on the frames rates. but I also have 3.0ghz of power on my side. but it s the least I can do for all the great music you gave out.

Could I request something for the game? That the call of duty health be optional. I know games like to be realistic, but there's nothing realistic about magically regenerating after being shot in the head by a shotgun. But anyway, games are for fun, not realism so I'd prefer if I have the option to disable that horrible CoD element.
Apart from that, this game looks really good! I'm looking forward to playing it, nice work Armageddon Games!

Well, head shots are instant kills in Call of Duty, you regenerate from shots anywhere else but body. And I've yet seen a completely realistic health system. Going around collecting health packs, instantly healing bullet wounds isn't realistic either.

But anyways, the screenshots look really good. Keep it up!

I had no idea you could do that? any info on how i might be able to?

The thing is, About the Health system,. If anyone has played any of my projects, you are well aware i like using minuscule health. There are NO health pickups at all anywhere in Falter... you get hit more than 4 times, its game for you. Im not changing the Health System at all...i have already tackled that barrier, if you want instant kills on head shots for the player and whatnot, play call of fail some more.

I appreciate the Crit, I really do but as I have already stated several times in this thread that I will not be changing the health system, why is it still an issue?
