I have been working on the problem for over a year now, and I almost gave up the project intil recently. This topic has been covered here
on the forums with no real answers. Most people reply with; No it can't be done; The models contain to many polygons; You can only use static models with no animation.

I believe it is possible to export a Poser model complete with animation to DB Pro. How? Well, first you need the right tools to do the coversion. Then you need a little patience and some luck. I personally have not carried the process to the end just yet. I wanted to post my findings here for others to consider. Maybe someone can try it and we could compare notes.

The following tools are what I have been working with:

Poser 4
PolyTrans 4.1
3D Canvas Pro

My proceedure thus far: (Poser Model /w animation to DB Pro)

Step 1:

Export a model from Poser 4. I have been using the 3DS file format with the export object groups checked and only exporting single frame. I suggest a natural standing pose with arms to the sides.

Step 2:

Create an animation for the character in Poser. You could use the walk designer or whatever you desire.

Step 3:

Save the animation of the Poser character as a Biovison Motion Capture file (.bvh) Make sure that you have the entire character selected for this proceedure otherwise you will get undesired results (i.e. exporting animation of a body part only).

Step 4: (This step might be redundent for some.)

This step is for compatiblity issues that I have found between Poser 4 and 3D Canvas concerning the .bvh file format. For some reason I could not import the .bvh file from Poser 4 to 3D Canvas Pro directly. Launch Polytrans 4.1 and import the .bvh file from Poser. Run the animation to see if everything had imported correctly. Then export it back as a .bvh file.

Step 5:

Close out the .bvh import project in Poltrans. Import the 3DS static poser model into polytrans.

Step 6:

This step is somewhat involved and I am not going to explain every detail. You will have to experiment or get some tutorials on the matter from www.okino.com. Combine all the sub-objects of the Poser model into a single model.

Step 7:

Once again, experiment and get some tutorials. Use PolyTrans and perform polygon reduction. The results of course can very, but try to reduce the model as much as possible without degrading it too much.

Step 8:

Export the model in the DirectX (.x) file format.

The final steps are not proven or even tried yet, but can I point you in the right direction, I hope.

My theory is, once you get both the Poser model and the Biovision
processed with Polytrans, you can use 3D Canvas to combined the .BVH skeleton with the Poser static model. You should then be able to export the model with bone based animation and use it in DB Pro.

I hope that I might have sparked some new interest in the matter. If anyone tries this, please post your results here. I am curious if it all will work.

what you need is deep exploration way better than polytrans.

Thanks for the comment about Deep Exploration, James1980. I will have
to check into it. Does Deep Exploration handle everthing that Polytrans does and more? Have you been able to do something similar to what I have discussed in my earlier post about converting Poser figures for use in DB Pro? If so, why not post the proceedure.

I can put poser models in db but have not done it since poser4 was released and i windowsME now i have winXP and poser4 dont work at all so i dont remember what i did but the .x model had all the animations it needed.

i used: 3D expolration(back then.)
3d canvas
poser4
truespace4 to test .x file
but to compare polytrans & deep exploration is hard. but you can pick that anwser.
