I have access to a studio and i can record soundFX such as glass breaking, Spent bullets hitting metel ect.. Not sure if i can do it just yet so hawkeye stay ready

Will do. Probably won't be any time too soon, exams coming up and stuff (always with the exams!). Keep up the work everyone, and I'm looking forward to seeing that upload system. I can fix up a general ftp account for everyone to upload stuff. If it becomes abused by people (either team members or not), I'll just change the password. Also, I can just delete any random crap that people may upload.

Look guys, to answer all the "can team members update the site" question, it's NOT MY SERVER

I have no control over it. Hamish generously let me use it to upload the site. Yes, I do think it's a good idea for team members to be able to upload. If you wish to do that, politly email Hamish and if he believes you can be trusted than you will hopefully be given the password.

And yes I'll implement the news PHP pages to make it all simpler to upload.

The "minor" part is where it says "updates"
It's for minor news such as new model completed or changes made to the site. For example

- Page "Join/Contribute" is now functional - April 22, 2005

Major news it under "News" which is everything from announcements to major releases to whatever. Hope that helped.

EDIT: mmo, did you send it? I didn't seem to get it yet.

I won't give access to the main forum directory, only Megaton will have access to that. News and screenshots by the looks of it will be uploadable via the website, and if people need webspace to upload their project related stuff (e.g. new models, documents, etc.) I have made an FTP account for everyone to use. My new Panoramic Screen Shots

Hey this is somthing i figured out how do to just the other day, Basicly what i does is give you a way to look around my level from one area of the map.

Anyways, I've beeen working on a new level, its a city map called "Russain Embassy" I've attached a file (the 3d screen shot), Download the following programs to use it


1.) You need WinRar or WinAce (For exrtacting my files.) ([href]www.rarlab.com[/href])

2.) Next you need "QuickTime Pro", ([href]www.quicktime.com[/href]) The latest verson, i belive is 6.0 or 6.0.2, Somthing like that

3.) Install QuickTime Pro when it ask's for a key, just leave it blank.

Now just exrtact my file and open it with QuickTime Pro.

(For you dummy's Hold down left click and move the mouse around to look around.)

That level looks great professor, it would be cool if we could enter some of the buildings and get on the roofs for some sniping
Oh and a few car wrecks on the central car park would be a nice addition once you're done with the level itself.

Grismald Yes i that would be pretty cool, there are already (Some) spots for sniping, if you look at the 2nd screen shot theres a little cat walk on the top left of the screen, not much for cover though, I try and get some of the buildings so you can run into them.

Awww dammit my idea was done first!

I had in the works (before my PC screwd itself) an outdoor level complete with a building to enter, rooftops for sniper wars, sidewalk, parking lot (had a car & truck model ready as a prefab), catwalk, and a few roads. The whole thing was surounded by a large brick wall though. The in-door area contained a few hallways and a main lobby with a vending machine.

Anyway, getting my PC fixed this weekend. Hopefully I an post some screenies.

Looking forward to see the texturing Profesor.

mm0zct, the pistol looks alright, but it looks like you have used an awful lot of pollies there. And the handle is quite...well...I can't see anyone being able to hold that. Just because the player won't see it as much, doesn't mean you should disregard it. The back of it seems to have a load of pollies on too :\.
Oh, and how does he fire the gun?

Ben, what I mean is that it's far too high poly for the detail.
For arguments sake, say that pistol is 800 pollies (easier than 760). Why have 800 pollies, when the same could be achieved with, let's say, 400? That 400 spare could then be used to add some detail to the gun. We don't have to completely avoid high poly weapons, but if they're high poly the detail should do it justice. Ala Half Life 2.

@Snipa Masta I'm sure your just trying to help, but i belive you should let mm0zct Design his own weapons, Alot of those polys are not being used right now, But you have to realize that the model isn't finnished, He may use those polys later on.

Ok, let me put it this way. I'm not exactly an amazing modeller, but I am experienced. You optimise as you make the model. If you don't, you could forget about things that you 'meant to optimise'.

It's also best to get crtisisisms before you finish it. Why do you think people post WIP's on so many graphic design forums? He needs to optimise it before he finishes it, so that he may add on extra detail and finalise it then.

A gun is a gun. Its usable in the game, therefore its good enough for now. It can be optimised some other time.

But if you want to optimise it 'some other time', you'd have to re-UVW map it and re-skin it. Why not just optimise it now, and get it perfect for the game rather than having one that's just 'good enough for now'.

But it is neccesary Ben, because he might as well get it out the way now, so he learns from it, and his future models are more optimised.

Baggers, he hasn't yet I don't think, but he should get the optimising out the way now before he adds anything else, that way he can get a more realistic outlook on the polycount. I'm not saying he HAS to make theese changes (read my former posts, I have already said this) I'm just giving him critisisms to improve.

But, if he wants to pull up the 'It's my model, I can do what I want' shield, then he'll NEVER improve. I don't have to offer my help, but I want to see him actually get better and improve his model.

Professor, the straight not slanted was reffering to the general design of weapon handles over the past 150 years. They are not slanted.

Also, I am using Milkshape 3d too. There is no tool to magically clean up everything. The Direct X Mesh tool screws up the design of the model. It's better and easier to do it by hand.

stop flaming snipa, his comments are actually quite useful, although some of the bits he circles are not actually wasted eg in the handle, you can see the clip inside the handle in the 2d wireframe which makes it look like there are other bits to the handle that are not needed but when you see the reload animation you will appreciate their existence.
i have been away for the weekend in a caravan with family so i couldn't work on it but i would like to point out i have plenty time to optimize it, i will only bother uv mapping it and texturing and animating it once it is completely finished.

the gun is based on counterstike source starting gun and it DOES have a sloping barrel i'm almost certain, as for a sloping handle.. look at the block already posted unless you meen slanted as in tapers inwards towards the bottom, in which case it' just not finished.

as for the circles around the sights wtf is with that, examine the side-on and 3d wireframes and you'll notice it can't get any lower poly there. if you think it can then please explain.

sorry for the long post, i really do appreciate the crit and pointers though snippa, so please don't be put off by the others, although thank you to the others for supporting me

finally megton: i know we already have a pistol but my pistol isn't entirely for this project and a little variety never hurt

Aplogies for double post, but MAN THIS IS COOL! Got some inspiration from the Unreal Tournament theme (and the Soldat theme, for that matter) to get the idea of how to make stuff sound grand and wrote this out in 30min or so.. IMHO it could turn out into some really kick-arse menu music Give it a listen and tell me what you think. I'd work more on this tonight (I'm really excited about this track) except for I was supposed to take a shower 20 min ago.. jsut a little after I started

BTW Snipa Masta a few extra polys can help sometimes when it comes to the shading during the game...a higher poly weapon will have much smoother looking shading...

Though that gun i made for this project was ridiculous...(partly because somehow there were twice as many polys there as there appeared...so it ended up being like 3000...when it's only a 1500 poly model... )
