Everyone wonders that?!?! And I think that one of them was trying to find a compressor for one. But I'm not sure.

But a video would be great. (hint hint)

There are a couple of 30 second videos I have created. I have just brought the full version of Fraps, so I should be able to get some longer ones up soon as well.

Keep em comming.
Just a question "Rob K".
The door that you open in the first video.
It looks like a sving style door but it just
seems to disapear. Does it swing open but
we cant see it in the video or what?

Rob K,

In the first Video the enemies seem to have a serious problem with tracing the player position and pathfinding.............whats their problem in that Video?

Second one is better from that point of view where the enemies are in external surroundings. There seems to be a difference in the two and I wondered why?

More videos:

Map Editor:

http://www.robertknight.me.uk/files/fpsc/fpsc_map_1.wmv
http://www.robertknight.me.uk/files/fpsc/fpsc_map_2.wmv
http://www.robertknight.me.uk/files/fpsc/fpsc_map_3.wmv

Game:

http://www.robertknight.me.uk/files/fpsc/fpsc_game_3.wmv
http://www.robertknight.me.uk/files/fpsc/fpsc_game_4.wmv
http://www.robertknight.me.uk/files/fpsc/fpsc_game_5.wmv

Couple of notes:

1. In the map editor vids the Windows UI is not shown. When the editing area turns into a blueprint, it is because I am fetching something out of one of the libraries.

2. All of the doors in the second video open the wrong way, Lee knows about this.

Nice videos, but in the game 5 video
- the blood is flickering - seems like the texture takes the same position as the floor and the engine can not decide to show the blood or the floor (zbuffer).
- walking up the stairs let the camera shake like hell - not as smooth as told from van B - but this may depend on the level.

I would like to see the chairs fall down if someone runs through them or jumps from them onto the table.

Ok - this is not a real techdemo, more what you can click together in a small amount of time.
At least, this is what I hope

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the further videos. Looks like you have some nice level construction going there.

The videos still show the enemies to have poor trace to player detection in some instances and poor object avoidance, this is seen particularly in the second game video where the enemy gets stuck against the table and chair. Of course I appreciate that this is just a demo and that the enemy probably has an attack range set at around the distance the player is when he enters the room so the enemy is more concerned with turning to player and shooting rather than moving around any object. These scenarios are obviously difficult areas of decision making for AI, though this particular video suggests that in tight situations where good object avoidance would be required, enemies have some problems with collision. Their proximity (collision) to objects seems to be very close so they could get stuck a lot.

Can you say if their bounding box or whatever method is used to measure collision with objects is editable?

Nice videos though. It would be great to see a high quality version - levels look really nice. You beta testers have a head start over everyone else who look forward I'm sure to getting FPSC.

@uman

Now you know why it hasn't been released yet. The pathfinding problems have been reported, so I assume Lee is working on them.

Rob K,

Thank you,

Actually I was not trying to be over critical. Your levels which I have viewed again a couple of times and FPSC overall is shown by your videos to be an excellent tool. I dont know of any other like it. The size and complexity of some your levels shows FPSC to be better than I would have perhaps hoped for. The AI I am sure will be fine at the end of the day.

I wonder if you could say - if its possible to have trees or other foliage placed outdoors or in for that matter - whether as .x models or any other method and if you have tried this? I was wondering if transparency was supported for this, obviously so we can have leaves shown as such?

Thanks again

Rob K(or another beta tester) :

I would be really happy if you could make a new walkthrough movie were you start a hole new level and make some cool things. Just like the other 7 min walkthroughv from the newsletter 22. If some of your beta testers could make an updated walkthrough video it could be nice! Also you dont have to put text on that kind of stuff.

Thanks

He must mean that he has an old one - FPSC won't run without a DirectX 9 compatible video card.

When I start the demo games it says "your graphics card does not support all the effects featured so it is recommended that you do not play this game". My graphics card is actually the graphics chip in-built to my Dell laptop (inspiron 1100) and I have 768Mb RAM. I think you may need a minimum 64Mb 3d card to use this but I'm not too sure.

Coldnews, report that as a bug - it definately should not say "recommended that you do not play this game." FPSC's pixel shaders are very subtle and the game will look virtually identical with or without them.
