How are you doing your online communications? Are you using DirectPlay with DBPro or using your own DLL?

Simple... yet fun!

So you know how to use memblocks right? Because sending one float at a time isn't gonna do anything

looks ok, as everone else said, you need a demo, sure you got 56k but ask someone if you can borro ur pc (ur mum as you suggested) who cares if their are glitches in the code(although you didn't mention this) i've uploaded my demo on my website but its only got a menu and you can walk and talk to a character, the characters are only cubes, but at least people see your progression,
To other people, don't get on his back too much it will make him feel intimidated and will try to make it quick so that people can be satisfied and it will be glitchy, remember not all coders work as fast as other people, (like me) I know he shouldv'of lied(altho he apologised) and he shouldn't set himself unachievable targets (like the 200 players) stick to what you can do.

Can anyone tell me the theory of knowledge?

If you need somewhere to host anything, you can always email me.

Let's hope you're doing something this time.

I don't think you'll be able to make a game too big for me to host, so I can host it.

For 200 users you would probably need 10mb at LEAST..and the way your planning on doing it is extremely ineffeficient..but anyway.

As far as the multiplayer goes, it's generally more efficient(in most cases at least) to send one big packet with lots of information, versus a lot of packets with little information.

If you ever get around to it, check out these links.

Yes it is far more effecient like that, due to packet headers and sorting that can slow it down a bit.

@STA
High Speed Internet, Check
Bandwidth, Ummm.. Maybe?

I'd just be able to host the game file itself to let people download it.
I should have decent bandwidth.... Lets see how far you can stretch it.

If you can break my bandwidth, just get a new person to host it for you.

Acutally, I can't host it this second, due to me being down... Shame it is.... Sto0opid router n' stuff mess it up.

Using DirectPlay with DBPro its vital to structure it carefully and to send all packets grouped into one big packet, the main reason being that it can't handle its net buffer. If you are sending strings, simply add them all into one large memblock and send that as it has the advantage of a guarantee flag, which is important when lots of important messages are in it.

Simple... yet fun!

Ahhh...I remember the disaster of the last thread you posted. Im glad you finally posted some screens and got some things sorted out. By the looks of things you are doing pretty well, however your game might either not run or be extremely laggy with 200 people on it. That is unless you are buying a server to run this off of

When it comes to programing, I'm on fire!

What the hell is wrong with you guys? The sage guy has just shown us the most promising hope of an actually <FINISHED> MMORPG/MORPG (although its obviously gonna take a lot longer) and your all just talking rubbish:

Quote: "what happened to the chat box? and all the other crap? seriously....I can make what you just showed us in a few minutes with a coke, a pc, dbc, and a keyboard + mouse
"

What was the last USEFUL thing you (the stupid guy who said that quote) ever freakin did?

Anyway, end of my of my rage attack: good luck to sage, and hope the MMORPG/MORPG comes along well (its looking pretty cool already - plus, your collision looks as though it works: my collision [on my new game] kinda sucks)

And please, all you stupid **** who never do anything, dont make ridiculous non-constructive comments, otherwise I'll come round their and kick your butts to the floor

What?
What have you ever done?

Sage Tech continually fills up this board with useless crap / fake screenshots.

He swore he had working multiplayer with chat MONTHS ago.

He is a liar and this project is a joke.
He needs to go away and make Space Invaders.

@Lightning Studios: Stop winging about things that were said pages ago, of course people were gonna bitch, sage's last thread was a huge disaster...so nearly everyone was sceptical.

Ok, sorry for what I said earlier: I've never spoken to Sagetech before, and my main excuse is that I have an uncannily random ability to 'stick up for the little guy'

Plus, I was in a bad mood. Damn you SageTech!

(Sorry Benjamin, I just hate it when loads of people attack someone;its known in education as 'be-littling' someone. I dont want to offend [unlikely I did that] you anyway, because I have no idea who you are.)

Take a screenie of your desktop using Prt Scrn then open it up in Paint, for some odd reason the mouse has done one.

It's 600x120... I've removed about 5 people's sigs yesterday alone and replaced them with the sig limits, etc.

Back on topic:

@Sage - Hmmm... how did you get that screenie with the game running in a window on your desktop without a titlebar? I didn't know you could get rid of the titlebar with a DBP app (although I haven't tried in a long time).
