Finished off the main Character Creation page. The screen now displays info for the Race/Class you have selected. Also, added in mouse over info. Moving the mouse over an Attribute or skill will load info on it at the bottom of the screen. Same link:

Will this be along the lines of a high-end game where you need decent/more than decent computer specs?

I would recommend a somewhat decent computer and a high speed connection for the final game. I get around 60 FPS on my PC which is about a year old with a pretty cheap graphics card. So you don't need a suped up gamer PC by any means but something recent and fairly fast is probably best. Guess we'll have to wait and see what people get as far as FPS when it's released for testing.

Well good news, I got the crew from Galekus to come in as the main modellers. They've made a few nice looking models already, here's a barrel.

Still looking amazing. Great progress.

I was wondering, do you know how you're going to code everything and it's just a matter of putting it all down or are there still times when you get stuck on a certain part and have to spend a while working out how to code it?

For everything I am adding for the intial demo release I have planned out how I am going to code it. Some of the things I am adding a ways down the road I havent decided on yet. So far coding everything has gone real smoothly, the only part I really got stuck on was when I was coding the MOB update... having to set up a buffer, synchronize all the PCs connected, and adjusting for video and network lag all at once... was a bit tricky but after ripping my hair out for a couple days I got it working the way I wanted. Been a little surprised I've run into as few problems as I have, the old posts on here about DBP multiplayer games made me a bit nervous

From what I've seen there is no need to be. This is definately one of the best projects I have seen on the forums.

Progress is going a bit slower than I had hoped but I've been busy with work and such. Still we've made some progress... Several options added to the Character Creation page.. gender, name, 30 attribute points to distribute on your character's stats, and arrows to rotate the model.

Also, created a seperate login server app to control all initial logins, account creations and direct you to the correct world server. Along with this, reworked the account database system to synchronize everything among all world servers.

Also, the Galekus team has been busy working on some landscapes and 3D models to fit in the game. Thanks to their founder Frozen Flame and all the rest of the guys there for helping in on this project. Here are just a few screens of some of the models they have made so far:

Tombstones

Treasure Chest
http://gastonia.galekus.com/modelpics/chest.jpg

Wooden Crate
http://gastonia.galekus.com/modelpics/crate.jpg

Finally, through many many tireless hours of hard work I have come up with a masterful sketch of the main Human island and the base world for the upcoming demo:

Made a ton of progress over the past few days. The login server and account database are complete. So far you can create an account, login to the account, create/delete custom characters, and log in to the world under any of the characters in your account.

Working system in place now to load/save your character's data when you log in and out. Still tweaking the 3D engine to get the FPS up as high as possible and to adjust for people with slower PCs. Also, added in water with a rolling ocean effect.

Demo as far as coding wise is pretty close to complete. So far I have been testing the server using a PC in my house, and I need to set up the server programs on the actual server I'm going to be using. Mainly though I am waiting for the complete 3D world and models to be finished before I release (not the models/world for the entire game, just a single level for the demo)

Anyway, although I've been working mainly on coding the the various engines and databases I'll post a few screenshots to show the progress:

Character Select screen, pretty basic now hoping to add in a 3D scene in the background at some point. Accounts are limited to 6 characters
http://gastonia.galekus.com/screenshots/ss9.jpg

Rolling Water effect, still need to work on the water texture

OMFG!! This game looks awesome!

Great work. I would definately pay for this game from somewhere like EB games. I have definately paid for less. Baldurs Gate Tales of the sword coast for instance.
I have a couple of questions about the game.

1/ DBC or DBP. I reckon its DBP. I think you said it was anyway.
2/ Free or otherwise. Id pay about $60. That's Australian Dollars note. Thats about $45 US. And since it's ORPG, please, for the love of god, all his angels, archangels, cherubim, seraphim, accountants, and beard trimmers, do not make it that we pay you monthly as well as original purchase or I shall pull out you intestines out through your nose! . J/king. But please dont. And the $60 is really only if you do get better moddelers.

Apart from that. Great game!

Seriously though, I meant models. The spiders are a bit florange if you know what I mean.
(Unfortunately I made that word up.)

But still, this looks like an awesome game.

Same. I have paid for games that look way less. Tomb Raider 1 for instance (Tomb Raider 1!! Do they even make that anymore. It was pretty fun back then. I got stuck on level 4 I think. And when I got a new computer it wouldnt run. Stupid win98... Now I have xp! YAY !) and Pharoah, and I even reckon this looks better then Diablo I. There! I said it! But then again. DI was not 3D at its best.

Well done.

Waiting a demo! If there is one...hmm....

Oh, I almost forgot, to all the great modellers who said they might try to help, what programs do you use?

I use Wings3D, Blender3D, and the ever-lovable, and proffesional (used in shrek 2 and Final Fantasy XI, wooot!) Maya6.5

I'm still new here, but I'd like to add my praise to what's looking like an already very polished independant game

And I'm sure you'll get testers soon, but unless it's for your backstory, I think it's "Elf" not "Elve" (seen on your accounts page). I'm not nitpicking, just trying to help.
Brilliant stuff, and good luck.

Everybody uses milkshape. Ive heard of it, and a downloaded a trial, which I used ... once. But I decided to stick with maya6. Uh, is milkshape freeware? It cant cost more then maya did, or gamespace for that matter.

well um, everyone seems to love milkshape and well it seems you've already decided, guess it will be best for you, if you want to do FMV's just download this as an extra thing

http://www.blender.org its a good app, but a lot of people say MS3D is better for game modelling, but if you want to put ur models in FMV well blender will help ya, I've used neither program, just observed points and suggestions etc.

Been tweaking the 3D engine a little more, brought my FPS from 58-60 to 73-75 on average. Added in a few more chat commands, like private messaging. Still mainly working on models and designing the 3D world. Pretty sure I'm going to have to make my own 3D world editor since I haven't found any that fit everything I need, so this might set me back a little bit.
