Can anyone point me in the direction of any information released by TGC officially saying that Vehicle support will be built in to V1 by default or not by default? I would like to read that.

Must have missed it.

Cheers

I know thats why I asked. I would not get your hopes up to high for seeing vehicle support in V1. Though it might happen of course, my bet is it wont but dont hold me too it.

Some kind of vehicle movement would be useful for FPSC and certainly the inclusion of Phiysics may allow for enhanced movement for all kinds of objects like machinery and alike making more more ineterseting levels.

Car or driving games however are not likely to be a big success as you are likely to reach the edge of the map before you have chance to turn around. FPSC levels are just to small - (DB or DB pro maybe not). You could shunt around I guess.

Vehicles are not going to be in the first release of V1. Mike is working on the vehicle section of the new DBPro physics extension, so that is what his diaries refer to. This will cross over into FPSC with time, but that time isn't September.

A great many people think they are thinking when they are really rearranging their prejudices.

Yeah? Ohh well, I thought that my troubles were over. Ohh well, V1 is still going to rule the PC until V2. That is, if they make V2.

Physics and MP - I dont know exactly why Physics is not included in MP - though its reasonable guess to suggest that its for the same reason that shadows on enemies are not in it.

You have to remember here that you are talking MP and connections over LAN or internet and FPSC is not, lets be fair on a par with the Unreal engine or other high end Commercial engine in this MP field.

Speed is of the essence and as with any MP game only essentials are included in an effort to provide that - just the sacle of essentials is different in FPSC - for single player games too.

MP in FPSC is limited in V1 - there may well be further improvements for MP in future versions but development time if nothing else prevents inclusion to V1 or you would have to wait even longer for its release.

MP was promised for V1 and TGC will keep that promise and you will get it - if you want better MP and you always will, then you have to wait until beyond V1.

In FPSC MP games you wont really miss the Physics anyway though it would be nice to see and would obviously add to gameplay experience if you have the time to stop to watch it happening which you wont - staying alive is what you will concentrate on as unless you design your levels very cleverly you wont have time to stop or turn around before someones killing you.

Exciting aint it!

well said, Skalex

for vehicles, we can wait

and besides- we all know that FPSC is best suited to make corrider-crawlers, not games with wide-open terrain

vehicles are best suited for wide-open environments, and though they would be cool in MP, they're not really practical until more terrain is possible.

in MP, here's no need for a wide-open terrain, just jump in a vehicule, start a dumb insane drive into the corridors and smash your opponents...

Nah!

Sorry I have not posted much re the V1 Beta dev everyone. Not sure what we can say..... You can follow most of the main stuff going on from reading Lees diaries of course and the released videos and various posts here at the forum, but theres lots of smaller things going on as well which will add to and improve the features and functions of FPSC.

Umans Diaries

Got a new compiled game example from Lee today showing more Physics in action though I cant say exactly what it shows going on. TGC will release such info at the forum In due course I would imagine. Certainly it shows FPSC doing things that most users are dreaming about seeing it being capable of and introducing to their games. Its good stuff I can tell you and it impressed me and that takes some doing when it comes to indie game engines. More than I expected to ever see from FPSC so who knows how good it may eventually become. If you thought the recent two video releases were good then - "You Aint Seen Nothing Yet"

Still concentrating mainly on MP myself - though have reported a number of various bugs back to the beta testing forum which Lee has quickly sorted.

Beta Versions come thick and fast - approximately at two day intervals so by the time each is downloaded at 350mb a time installed and levels built and tested, games compiled and run and tested, then any bugs, errors or suggestions for improvement reported back to the Beta Forum and fixed its almost time to think about downloading the next Beta Version. Not much time for heavy complex world building for me...its download, download, download, test, test, test. report, report, report.

Good stuff Eh!

That brings me to the next task - awaiting Beta10 which should be available in the next couple of hours or so. 23.26pm here in the UK so I got time for posting here and plenty of tea drinking (thats a coffee I know) and maybe some sleep while I listen out for a mail arrived sound which will tell me that Beta10 is ready for download. Then another 3.5 hours wait to download, so I may not sleep until then and do so while downloading. Then more installation and testing which will be on Wednesday by then.

And thats the August 2 BETA Testing Update.

News and weather follows shortly.

Yeah, I will spend a few weeks in development once I get V1, I probally can do a quick release of a Vehical, but it is all dependent on what I can script. Once Again, Chris, can you push lee into advancing scripting, I know that that would be the easier aspect (Math would probally be pretty hard though).

As I understand it, the scripts are really just read as strings and =x means x is a numeric variable, and if a string is equal to something, then a command occurs. That command will return a 1 or a 0 if it is true or false, if it is true then it analizes the next condition, if it is false it will go to the next line and start analizeing there.

so in that nature

(OnKey command, well, needs to be DB translated and fit propperly, and should be in a stupid true language.)
ONKEY=(ascii code)

(onkey function)
OnKeyValue=(value grab)
if (asc(input variable)==OnKeyValue){
return 1;
}else{
return 0;
}

there. simple and is compatable with current FPSC settings. Just needs to be converted propperly, with variables inserted.

now for my action

BLOCKINPUT=1

(placed somewhere)
if (BLOCKINPUT==0) {

}

as I said, simple. There are some small issues that can occur if you don't blockinput while using ONKEY, but other then that I think that it should be very easy to impliment.

Seriously now...

This is looking really great. Like most others, i can't wait. Guess i'll just have to watch the video on and on again, until it is realeased.

You are doing a great job, guys. I believe that you deserves a vacation after this. (My keyboard sure as hell does)

True story, but I dont think it will make a game for the AAA titles...

Twas only a couple of weeks ago that in some very hot weather that I leaned over the desks past the computers to open a window wide when I realsied I had caught a cup full of tea in my open shirt and tipped the whole lot into the keyboad. After turning the keyboard over on its face till the lot drained out onto the desk I could see it was dead - I wasn't too concerned for a moment - (as I had a spare) until I realised when I lifted my cup to my mouth that all, yes all, of the tea was gone and then I was really miffed.

Umans Diaries

Not a lot to report today. Downloaded Beta10 early am. Installed, found some probs, one big one, reported probs. Now waiting for Beta11 which is on its way ASA Lee feels he has made enough further imrovements or additions. At current rates it wont be long. I can see it on the horizon. Now 23.40 GMT here in UK....and as dark as the pic <- thats my game main character (me with my make up on)

Maybe when the Sun comes up.

i want to make an ice hockey style game....or football like. Do you guys remember "Crazy football" ? You run around and try to throw the leather in the opponents goal. if you got the most score , you won. second option : destroy the whole opponent team with hammers,swords,axes etc. and win the game because theres no one left.
this is what i wat to make!
The only problem : meelee weapons ?
uhm...second problem : intelligent computer teamplayers who grab the ball and run to the goal...except they are attacked, then they attack,too ! aaaaand it would be nice to have a teammate throwing the ball to you when you press a key or something. or of course to your direction.

---> I know this is not really on topic....but i wanna make this !

yeah...thats the ticket !

Merranvo wakes up from a cold sweat in his bed. Wow. What a strange dream, beta's, whips, people passing out, things doing god knows what..... All of sudden his window in his bedroom shatters as three men in black outfits jump in. One of them pointing a gun at Merranvo shouts, ON THE FLOOR SCUMBAG. Merranvo gets down on the floor. What's going on he asks. One of the men is at his computer typing, he says, I found what we were looking for. On the screen, FPSC V1 Beta. Merranvo stares in disbelief. Where did you get this?!? one of the men asks. Merranvo is still shocked. One of the men says, fine be that way, we are taking you down town to our HQ. Merranvo is led away to a black van in cuffs. On the other side of town a man sitting in a chair petting a white cat gets a phone call.
Man: So Merranvo was taken away by the beta patrol. I take it that they found the planted evidence. Good. You have done well my friend.
Merranvo will be there for a long time. Beta patrols are good at what they do. The man hangs the phone up, on his hand he wears a ring with a gold encrusted S. The man laughs a deep laugh.

There are a lot of questions being asked in various posts around the forum regarding if certain well known and requested features or functions will get into V1 and some new ones that I have not seen before.

As its likely that from now on in that any that TGC have not already mentioned to forum users or otherwise scheduled for inclusion to V1 will make it - then I would suggest that everyone that wants to see things included to a version post V1 keep track of their requests and threads and at the appropriate time bring them back to attention so that they can be given due consideration at that time.

Otherwise many suggetions already made and new posts here are likely to get lost in the sands of time.

Yes,
Guys, you probably want to hold off all suggestions and such for V1.1 or whatever version number Lee chooses to call it next. Lee is doing great work at squashing the bugs. He's kinda like a CSI guy.

LEE: What do we have here.
RickV: Looks like a homicide, a jump at instruction B13.
LEE: B13 Instruction jumping in the middle of an routine, was it from an ADD or a SUB that caused this.
RickV:Not sure just that it caused a loop to go out of whack.
LEE: RickV, could you cover up the instruction with a white sheet, the expression is too grim for me.
RickV: Alright
LEE: Why would an Add or a Sub go out of it's way to jump at an instruction. It makes no sense.
RickV:I think I found something
LEE: This looks like a finger markings from a PRINT function. What the heck is going on here.
RickV: Do you think a COUT could have caused this?
LEE:COUT's aren't normally killers. It could have been a PRINTF.
RickV:Wait, I have it, it's not a print function, it's a SCANF function.
LEE: Of course, it may look like a PRINT function, but that's because it's similar, let's put out a BB for a SCANF, can't be too many out here at this time of the night.
RickV:I think we got one, dispatch has reports of one not far from here. Let's go.
Seconds later.....
LEE:Halt, you're under arrest for the murder of Instruction B13.
SCANF: You got the wrong function, I was just taking some input for a Float.
LEE:Like heck you did. Where did you get that POINTER from.
SCANF:This POINTER? It was given to me by a For Loop. Nothing wrong with that.
RickV:Unless it's used to kill. What did you do with it.
SCANF:Nothing <Getting Shaky>
LEE: Just tell us if someone put you up to this.
SCANF:Alright, alright alright, it was......
The monitor on the screen shows a bluescreen of death. A man petting a white cat sitting in front of the screen reaches for the reset button. On the finger that hits the reset is a Ring with an Encrusted S. The man says, well at least LEE will have all the problems solved by the time this is released.
The machine resets and the man goes back to work on it.

Hi everyone,

I have not posted much in this thread of late so thought it was time for an update.

Umans Diaries

Got BETA12, BEAT13, Then BETA14 yesterday. Been through most of that now and BETA15 probably wont be too far away.

BETA testers have had some nice little exanple levels showing off various aspects of new features. Yesterday I got one showing the new Story zone in action - though a simple introduction just to show the functions working I was pleasantly surprised by the professionalism of what can be achieved with a little planning and - walking through the test level I was about to turn a corner when I had a something of a shock when a full screen video of an FPSC enemy popped up and he spoke to me in a killer fashion - With the excellent lighting I could see the viens on his chest - I had never seen an enemy so close up with the image filling the screen on my 19" monitor. Great stuff.

Before becoming a BETA tester I had really not appreciated what it takes to make a game engine and have had something of an eye opener. There is just such a lot of work being done on FPSC every day that as a user I could never have known the depth of effort being put into this product - still the work continues and a plethoria of issues have and are being attended to on a daily basis.

I ran a compiled MP game .exe I had made yeterday and was surprised to see that frames per second never fell below 30 - averaging 30 - 33 fps. The improved consistency was apparent with no lag in any one area of the map. Well done TGC.

Well thats all for now to get you dribbling - perhaps some more when I have had a chance to look at the coming BETA15.

Not sure what kind of model you refer to - easiest method make/get your animated model - set it up in an FPSC level - run level - record/save movie with Fraps - optimise movie - use V1 Story zone to play movie in game where necessary.
