Whenever I host a server and someone gets 20 frags, I get a dialog which asks me to play the arena again or to exit the game.

But pressing Play the arena again crashes the game - this means the server:
Runtime Error 7006 - Object number illegal at line 18257

This is very strange, this whole grey skins issue. When I tried this demo the first couple times there were no problems, but now, they are there every time. But, I must say that it is not lagging now, which is was before. If it is any help, I'm using a Geforce 6600GT AGP, with Forceware Drivers 77.77.

AMD Athlon XP Barton 3000+ CPU, 1024 Mb DDR-Ram, Geforce 6600 GT with 128 Mb Ram, 80 Gb Harddisk, Direct X 9.0c, Windows XP Home Edition.

the invicnible playa bug is still very evident. someone becomes god almost every game. screws up the whole experience.

oh, and thanks for the player list (tab). it helps alot.

Still getting the invincible bug even when playing build 4.Some times when you are killed you do not disappear from the arena and you have to click to respawn.

- I see grey player skins - the weapons show their texture.
- I got killed through a closed door (well, not seeing someone else in a closed room and getting killed by someone outside)

i keep having the bug where mytext that i've typed and entered wont show up on my screen- a minor glitch, as others can still read it, but still annoying.

Why do today what you could have someone else do?

I'm Still getting the grey no-textured characters. Everything else is textured...all entities, weapons doors etc. Im running the latest drivers for my Radeon 9200. Could it be the implimentation of the shaders? What ever is rendering the skins for the characters in the AE version makes the character skins show in that.

I noticed (or I could be wrong) that the enemy x models don't have textures assigned to them seperately in the EA version. The textures in the AE version for enemies appear to be baked into the models themselves. I noticed that in the arena version they have seperate textures externally. Maybe that has something to do with it. Upon searching for "missing textures on 9200" I see the problem in other games as well but the probs have been fixed. Don't ask what they did.

Textures on enemy models in EA are not embedded. They are indeed separate.

FPSC does not use x.files with emdbedded textures on any world object or entity so that the user as with any other aspect of an FPSC object can have full control over an objects properties from within script. Everything is changeable by the user - except for anything hard coded into the engine.

Should have fixed both bugs now. The invincible seems to be caused when client players REPLAY the session, and become unkillable. Hopefully this has been dealt with in PUBLICARENA5.ZIP. Report here if this version does the same (or something else).

I have a really crappy computer and I see caracter textures. Everything works fine for me.

@Lee
Can you please make the player movement faster. I get a feeling that We're all just slowly strolling through a park with squirt guns soaking each other. Thanks. Ohh yah. It sounds like two poeple are walking at the same time when ever I walk and move any where. Sort of like an echo. Can this be fixed? Thanks again.

Hi Lee,

since my build4-server crashed after each finished deathmatch and I had to start the arena for each single game, I don't think the invincible bug was a problem on server side.

This means I had an unkillable guest on my machine during a 1st game session.

I don't know how it behaves on your side, but loading the game (progress bar visible) is very slow.
This is only a small map but it feels like if I still have the fps creator IDE open and running.

Once the game is running it feels good and its fast enought to have some fun - even with 12 hp left.

geek, u have to replace the old exe from the first download with the new one (there are no textures, meshes, etc. in the new file as you can see)

I tried to host an arena5 game but it crashed always in the middle of the progress bar.

The loading screen switches back to window mode and a windows application error box appears, just to tell you that the application has to be closed because of an error.

It would not help you to see the original error message in German
But I think you have an idea how this box looked like.

I just downloaded a new driver, but I think it was the wrong one. I'm am in fact pretty sure it was, because suddenly everything ran i 4 bit mode... I just installed my old driver again (ati2dvag.dll V. 6.14.0010.6483 ).

Also, I just downloaded the new map, and it crashes halfway through the loading after joining a server.

Could this player have gone by the name "Overlord"? Yes, that was me. I dunno what the heck happened, but it was weird. Guess the name Overlord fit alot better than usual at that moment. ;P

Ok, it is impossible to hurt yourself even with the biggest gun shooting at the floor in front of you - but I managed to kill myself:

Besides the stairs to the sniper position is a hole in the ground.
Each time you fall it will cost you about 20 hp.
I wanted to see if I get a negative frag count if nobody else could raise its frag count.

But when I finally died, my view gets a red circle around and it was impossible to ressourrect.
Changing the weapons, but no movement and no respawn.
I had to leave the game.

- please make the weapons a bit more unfriendly to the person who holds it
- also, provide a secondary action to the big dual gun, to shoot a single blast with some damage in a small region, please

First of all , A big Thanks !!!!! to lee and all other developers.
Looks just amazing what youve created !

Second , wouldnt it be better to have a kind of menu where you see the available online players and the pings ? Would be very nice if we could customize those things....the location of the text and maybe a half-transparent background image.

third...I M P O R T A N T *g*
Please please lee, upload the same level with shaders on. all fpsc has to give i wanna test my graphics card

You can change the settings be editing settings.ini in the publicarena folder. Set the useeffects* options to 1, and change the texture divide to 2 or 1.

Mr. Rob,

If i change these settings, nothing happens...except that the texture resolution is higher. shader effects are in example : bump mapping , specular highlights , reflection mapping and so on.
I think to get this level with shaders, you have to compile it again with shaders checked.

my friend downloaded the .exe (latest version) and it wont work. it goes to a black screen and wont do anything.

his system specs- 2.0 ghz p4, 1 gig RAM, Radeon 9800 PRo Video Card

You must now download the FULL 54MB version, called:

The publiccarena5 exe only will crash mid-load or black screen you if you try to use it solo. Download the above file if you wish to test the arena for us. We will be announcing a test Wednesday sometime, so stay tuned!

arena6 has a frag limit of 5 which makes the game very fast.
But the respawn point is often very close to the location of death.

Please don't simply use a random number but
- make sure no players are near/in the respawn point
- it is not the same room in which this player was killed

I can reproduce a crash by the following:

- I killed myself by falling down the shaft a number of times
- Pressing escape from my "dead" view causes an abend

I was hosting a game and was the only player in the game.
