Hi all,

As some of you may know, after working on AGE, which is a game editor for DBP, I decided to start working on an independent game maker. One that could be used by people that don't have DBP. This is that project, now with a few months of work done to it, and a few more to do.

It's simple stuff. You just make your game in AGM by placing models and setting entities, and then click 'Run Level' to fire up the engine and try out what you've just done, and if you're not happy, then you can go back to the editor, change what you want, and try it again.

So far I've only done the fundamentals of AGM, as I intend to have a few other things, such as the plugin system, where you can run any program in the AGM plugins folder with AGM to make new landscapes, objects or just pick a colour(Will use a small script system for this to tell the editor to update or change certain things.). I also have to finish my work on the entities, which are currently not active. You will be able to make any genre game based on how you setup the player entity, and the entities around it. Online support will be there too, for you FPS and ORPG fans.

Please excuse the quality of this image, only if it were any larger, it would time out during its upload. Try squinting!

Finally, I intend to sell this one for about $20 a download, which will hopefully do well.

Updates after a lot of sleep and code and more sleep.

You are not alone.

From the screenie its looking very nice, will it have any scripting options?? $20 sounds fairly reasonable, if you can produce a demo for us to play with.

Beta testing will commence before I release a demo. I have ten testers already, but I'm sure that if anyone else wanted to join them, then I could add their name to the list.

Looks really nice Aura. I hope I'm your beta list, because I asked to be and I helped to influence the creation of your program on MSN by giving graphic details of you biting as a vampire into someone else's neck .^^

gamesmad, me neither. I'm totally giving myself a raise.

$20? It's undeniably reasonable but being in my current economic state, I can't even afford to go to the gas station and get the Sobe I so crave... Ah well, I'll just have to enjoy the beta testing then...

[EDIT]

Looking good!

There's now a forum and a gallery for AGM on the site provided to me by FXTC http://www.aura.glass-jewellery.com/. The forum will be used by the beta testers to post and discuss possible bugs and other things, so I suggest you lot register for that.

I know that, I was just saying I won't be able to buy the alpha version for a while because I don't have $20.

Registering at forums

[EDIT] Oh hell...Aura, I might not be able to beta test as I'm still in the process of trying to get my own computer so I can hook it up with DX9 and all the necessities...I really want to beta test but it would appear that it may not be possible for me. Crappy computers make me sad and mad and want to be bad.(yes I'm playing with Dr Suess rhymes)

Spam.

Aura seems to be putting some hard work into AGM from what I can tell... I think he's been staying off MSN just so he doesn't get distracted >.<

(Worked out this via the Shoutbox on his site, by working out the time offset of the server, subtracting, and then asking people whether Aura was on then...
I can tell you, I gave myself a hard time. I nearly cried when I asked myself that question. I wanted to remember, but I just couldn't... Until I did.)

You're on the list! And I think I'll use one of those file hosting sites for hosting AGM, and FXTC has already given me a site anyway. You could always be a mirror though. AGE needs another one of them.

In AGM news, I've added the Player tab, which will allow you to set, load and save player settings. The same settings that define the game genre, so as you can probably guess, these will be a key feature.

I've just emailed you! I totally forgot about the system requirements though, so here goes.

DX9.
Uber fast computer.
Brain.

Tada!

In other news; AGM is nearer to beta than it was last time that I said it was near to beta. It really is. As soon as I finish the basics of the scripting system, it'll be up for beta testing. I'll no doubt be looking into scripting tutorials for a while!

Well this is eerily simple. I've just made a system that runs the following player loop script with no problems.

Fun!

Yeah, D'oh!

So like, here's an update! I'm still working on the scripting system, which is coming along beautifully. I added do..loop support, ifs within ifs and a load of other commands. I'm now working on a semi-unique variable system, that will be faster than your usual array keyname and data storage, yet more memory efficient than your trusty hash table. The storage of custom variables could be used for anything, from health of a rabbit, to your adventurers harvesting level.
I think the scripting system may play a much more important part in AGM than I had previously thought it worthy of, as it's fast and very effective, and will allow for so much customization for each game, so my perspective has changed. If I do stick to this plan(ie; if nothing screws up), then rest assured, there'll be a load of scripts accompanying AGM for you to fiddle with, or even, not touch at all. The script format is very simple, based off of BASIC really, so using it shouldn't be that hard for you lot, and not too hard for new peeps to pick up either. Also, I intend for the first beta of AGM to use a simple edit box to view and alter these scripts, but I'm going to add an interface to it eventually, ideally like the one that can be found in the object properties screen for the excellent 2D game maker, that is Game Maker 6.

Wish me luck!

I didn't say I was mirroring it, just said I'd have the download available. And the site got flamed because of scripting errors. No Doctype, silly me, still havent fixed it.

Oh, but I will be mirroring it once I find the spare time to download it. (sadly it takes me forever to download anything over 200kb. Bad computer+bad internet+random disconnect=one helluva problem trying to download stuff.

We misinterpreted you. Usually people offer to host files, not to host links to files. Plus, Drew may not be happy about being linked from another site, as with the link on my site, there's a counter, so Drew can find out exactly how much bandwidth is being used. I suggest you bring this up with him.

My bad...I am going to be getting my own file up, it's just I haven't gotten online at my house in the past few days, as my brother just came to visit from out of state. But tommorow I can surely get AGE and upload it to my site, barring any connection difficulties. I'm trying, and I'm getting there. I guess I'll take my site down completely for now, as when I visited any page of it a trojan appears to be attacking my computer...damn though, it's hard to get things to work out right when you have no computer of your own, but I try.

[edit] and I did offer to host the file, I just said I'd get it up as soon as I could. But seriously, stay off my site until I figure out whats going on.

[edit2] scrapping 150m completely, going to find another free host.

Cool.

I've been working on the functions that convert the variable names, so nothing really new to talk about.

So earlier I was watching a bit of Richard and Judy, and they were saying how the gulf stream is fading away, or atleast going somewhere else, and how over the last ten or so years, due to global warming, we've lost 30% of it. So now there's some predictions saying that in another ten years, England will be like Siberia, cold! Basically, now's the time to fire up your own snowboarding shop.

I should probably point out that everything else that I was working on, ie my book and AGE, have gone on pause while I try to get the first beta of AGM out. In theory, all I have to do is finish this scripting language, intergrate it into AGM, and upload it all. But that's a lot of work, particularly the scripting bit. Once beta 1's out of the way, I can do some other things, like updating AGE, and then making some plugins for both AGE and AGM. As for my book, I guess that will be on hold for much longer. Oh well!

This thing is programmed in a language other than DarkBASIC, and/or doesn't use DGSDK correct? Otherwise, you'd be walking all over their EULA.

You need a download manager, like netants!

In AGM news;

Yesterday, I finished the variable renaming function. It took like three days to work it out, and a load of other functions to make it work, but now it works perfectly and I'm very proud of it.
This is what it does.

It will take the users easy to read(for a human) code;

and convert it to easy to read(for a computer) code;

The numbers represent the array that stores the data that the variable represents.

Hot huh?

Oh, and I'm thinking about splitting up the computers code even more, like;

It would read that much faster as it would have very little to parse.

COOL! But can you not have endif? Instead maybe have { and }? Just makes it cleaner, but if it just directly runs DBP code, not much you can do...

That's not even possible. I could change the command layout and what not, but why?!?!2 This is just like BASIC, which is easy for us to read, but also easy for people that have never used BASIC before to understand. So, no Mr. Stick, I will not use { and }, unless you were to give me a good reason to of course!

Aura...I must apologize...I've tried...I really have.

But now I cannot download anything else as the computer already has a virus and I'm not willing to upload anything from it, as it could be a risk to the users downloading through my site. AGE will not appear on my site until I get my own, better functioning computer. (my site wont exist until then in fact) I apologize again...sorry.
