Thanks guys

Torrey - yeah that only happens if there's anything active underneath it, Ie if you run it with a clean desktop from the star menu it never happens. I'm not quite sure why that happens, but I'm trying to track it down asap

NO Update until the weekend I'm afraid, as I decided to work REALLY hard and do a heowge update instead This should really be an awesome update, mostly due to the fact I finally got my laptop fixed

Dumbo - umm pardon?

If you mean does it compile exe files, then not directly it makes a standardised exe file plus media or a pck style file, or outputs to bdbpro code so you can compile it manually

As for file formats, the Quikly Studio Pro suite of tools will support:
models: .x .dbo & model pro
images: .bmp .jpg .dds and eventually tga png & more
music: .mp3 .ogg and .mid
sound: .wav
movies: .mpg .mpeg .avi and eventually .gif & .swf

hmm...

filechanger PRO just CHANGES files from one format to another.

like if you had a MIDI file, but your friend could only play mp3, just use filechanger.

i might add in .fla to be annoying(swf to fla... lil backwards, eh?)

Oh I see what you mean... but all the files I mentioned are files that every pc should be able to run really. And why would anyone cahange a midi file to mp3? They are entirely different formats and both good for different jobs...

hm..i wonder my self.... it`s not so smart to change to a format that you must pay license to use in commercial games , then a format that will sound better , be smaller , and can be used in commercial or freeware games wiht no license fee`s

For EA Users: Ok a new Game Pro update is here at last, and its a good one

Whilst there many not be many noticable differences immediately, internally its a whole new kettle of fish which will allow me to update very much quicker in the future

New features you may notice here are the ability to check for online updates at the start, and a sneak preview of the vehicle physics.

More importantly the model loading and scripting parts have been implemented far more fully, many more things are possible including music in your games, stairs, ramps, race tracks, city scapes and more.
Over the coming week I'll release models and tutorials to teach you how to use the new stuff

You can now SAVE and LOAD your games again!! Cause for celebration I feel. Updates will be coming thick and fast now, with new tutorials and models to allow you to take advantage of all the new features

What does that mean to this post? Well I'll be posting a lot more (and varied) screenshots and possibly a demo soon(ish)

Quote from a post in the geek culture section

Quote: "
Hey - wow thank you for posting about this, I was just coming on to do exactly that! I just realised I haven't been updating my stickies here, which I really should I'm very grateful for them - I'll be posting full details, many screenshots and the details for purchase etc from in the stickies, or perhaps make a new one for "Program Announcements" now, I'll ask a mod whats best.

Anyway many thanks for the kind words of support, I've had a brilliant response from the TGC forums, (just under 50 EA users from these forums alone! )

For those who can't be bothered to click links, here's the "prototype" box:

and me (sorry for the scary, "extreme lack of sleep due to dealines" style picswith the real, finshed product box and cd. inside the box is manuals, and sleeves to hold expansion cds when I do major updates

Cool huh? Thanks to everyone for their support and for anyone panick buying, tomorrow is the last day for the "sale" price (19.99) before it goes up to 29.99gbp. Email me with an enquiry at privateemail(at)quikly.com before midnight on the 13th to qualify for the reduction

Thanks again guys and sorry for the lack of "official" updates, I'm rushed off my feet writing tutorials, making examples and such - I WILL be posting far more details both here and on my own site on the 14th

Sorry, I was running out of time on the library computer and was going to get booted...

I got my boxed copy of Quikly today, here in WV,USA. It's a nice package, just a plastic DVD style case including the disk, password sticker, and printed mini-manual. The manual mainly just mentions install info, the newton library, and has a thank-you similar to what Sam sent via e-mail. no real piccys in the manual, but there are a few nice ones on the box we haven't all seen before.

I don't know what gremlins Sam pi$$ed off that prevent him from keeping to his own deadlines, but Quikly is real and I have the proof! Here's hoping everything is good with him and the site goes back up soon. Kewl. Now to go home and try it out (with fingers crossed)...

I'm Still waiting too! I have my copy.. this seems to be the only place to discuss Quikly as the forums are down.. i just hope the new site actually materialises!!!

Clearly deadlines are not Sams thing.. lol.. it must be said tho, it dosn't take long to get on the net.. whether it be at a local library or internet cafe jus to give the loyal customers an update.. So im not overally impressed at the moment, i do however understand the amount of crap Sam has gone through.. Dosn't justify the lack of communication however.

I hope I can activate my copy before i have to sod off back to work next week!

I didn't get a chance to play with Quikly last night, I got as far as updating directx and went out for a bit. What's this about Quikly needing an activation? Is that why the package lists an internet connection as required? If I install the software and put in my passcode it still won't work until the site comes back up?

I hate software that wants to be online all of the time. My system is seriously infected with malware and spyware. The last thing I want while working in Quikly would be a message saying my reg is corrupt every 20 seconds.

Nah sorry dude, all the cd contains is the update/install software, it downloads all the content so untill the new sites up you cant do a thing! Thus the longing for the new bloody site!!!

I think im even more frustrated now i have the thing in my hands and i still cant use it!!! lol

Yah, this is really inexcusable. Okay, I can *barely* understand if he doesn't have the files for us to download, as sometimes servers can be a turd. BUT since he hasn't even bothered to log-in and update us, which would take all of a few minutes, it's unprofessional. If it were anyone else, I would have asked for my money back and written bad things--- but I have a lot of respect for Kang and this is out of character for him.

Oh well---- I just hope nothing bad has happened to him.

Dang, and I've got lousy free dial-up too! We've spent the last month waiting on empty boxes with essentially blank disks in them? This reeeeally sux! There is no good excuse for this. Even if Sam's updating the Newton components (there is a new one, right?) he should still open the k2dn part of the site. This is one of those times when the money you saved by buying early doesn't really make anything seem any better. Now I wonder even more why he went to the trouble of a boxed package if WE STILL HAVE TO DOWNLOAD IT. Geez Sam, you could've saved money on that printer and just e-mailed the passcodes! Tell me why I shouldn't be paranoid now.

Words fail me.

I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but I'm so pi$$ed I can't stand it. I'd bet Sam closed the site to avoid having to host all of the "i've been scammed" threads that would've taken over by now, but it sucks especially given that there was some nice OT conversations going on. Thanks for closing the forum, at least it gave me hope and a distraction while I waited for what I paid for. Now I'm just seething over an empty box. I don't think Quikly was ready on the 14th of Feb, and I don't think it's ready now either. I don't want to say he hasn't had some bad luck, but who's effin'luck could ever be that bad? Sam, if you're not trying to screw everyone who preordered out of their money than I'm truly sorry for whatever must've happened. You had a nice community of passionate would-be game designers willing to buy your product on good faith. I'm anxious to see how you plan to get all of that back, if that is your plan. You said you'll give Quikly to the community if something ever stops you from developing it. With your luck you ought to seriously start thinking of who you want to hold onto the source for you. I feel jinxed by association. Like they say, if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is.

Sorry, I had to vent to someone who would understand. I'll give the site another week to come back. After that, who knows?

It was nice to have some of the OT conversations going over there to kill time. There were a couple of good threads going if I remember correctly. Hope they'll still be there when it comes back up. Cause it is coming back up, right Sam? Sam?

From what I remember Sam had a few family problems getting in the way, possibly that is a big delay with certian things for him, perhaps these problems keep him from the net, and maybe because of it he is using all of his computer time to get this site done and no forum time, as I remember him saying a while back he doesn't use MSN, email or forums much because he finds them to distracting from when he is working, I agree, 5/10 minutes won't hurt to give hope and post, however I'm sure Sam has good reasons, or at least reasons

Quote: "(work in progress or con in progres,i"

From experience jumping to conclusion or believing paranoid ideas bite back when you find out you're wrong, so I would try to keep open minded about it, give it a week, and maybe we could get someone administrative to try and look into this

True, that was pretty harsh. It was supposed to be an apology for the other comment being too harsh, but I was so mad it came out as another rant also. I don't think Quikly is a scam because I've played with the demo. If he'd enabled the save on the demo we could all have gotten a head start on the final product. I didn't know I was buying a boxed copy initially, so the wait was more than a bit unexpected. When I got the box in the mail I had no idea that Quikly wasn't actually in it. (I can't really take blame for not reading the features because I don't think he posted that info before the EA date of the 14th) If he's so busy, how did he find time to take the site down? I've never known a site to go down for that long, even a fully redesigned site can go up in a day or so. Clearing things up hasn't been a priority as I'm certain he knows from last time that we'd all be flipping out by now. All I can assume is that he went over his deadline and found other things to blame for the delay. I could accept that if it meant a better product (been waiting on zBrush 2.5 for over a year!) but I can't stand the disappearing act twice in just over a month.

Yeah, I am/was moogaloonie in the Quikly forums.

to be honest I don't think he read our posts, hence 'thanks for your patience'

Like I said give it another week, if not, surely he has given an address/other non web contacts with the product or something, or perhaps he has given an address on TGC when ordering/signing up and we could ask Rich or someone to try and contact him.

I'm sure i would be annoyed in your position too, however, we can't do anything but mellow down until he finally turns up (I mean I can't order till he gets back and I get money)
