There are worse things that can happen to a person other then him getting lazy...I just hope it's not something serious...

I doubt he ran of. He emailed me a few weeks ago to propose some paid model pack work...doubt he'd bother doing that if he was planning to con everyone and vanish with the earnings from the start. : /

Good to see you Moog, how's the music side coming? I don't stop by here much anymore, but I thought I'd pop over and check this thread once in a while for any new word. If you ever feel like getting into another OT thread stop on over to the "other" forum. Right now I think the last OT threads over there were about fox hunting and aliens. Time killers while we wait...

Hey (I emailed this to Sam as well),

My brother just checked the mail, and he brought home my quikly. The case is all beat up, look like it got lost. The cd and insides are fine.

I haven't installed it yet though. Looks like I have to wait for Kangaroo to open the site back up like everyone else .

I don't know what's up with Quikly at all. Sam put way too much work into Quikly for it to be a scam. I'm sticking to my guess that he just fell behind deadline at the last moment and there just is no finished version to post yet. It seems reasonable that something has come up in his real life also. I just wonder what to expect and how much of his word to hold him to. If Quikly only exists as the demo Sam let us play with, should we expect him to release it to the community to finish if he's unable to himself? Has anyone tried to verify that Sam produced the other things he claimed? I don't remember his Amiga games maker, but alot of stuff didn't make it to the US from the UK back then. So many questions. The last time I remember someone disappearing like that after seeming to break a bunch of promises was the developer of Tornado3D on the Amiga. He promised a bunch of cool features for version 3 and when it finally shipped, most of the features had been trimmed down and the program as a whole was totally broken. I'd have preferred Sam at least given us something on that blasted disk though...

Not doing much with music at the moment. I figured that starting a project in Quikly would give me reason to do some music though. I did get asked if I want to play in a noise-metal band though, so who knows what will happen?

I'm an old rocker, but the noise metal is a little too noisy for me. I've thought about doing a noise metal / bang fest type of thing just to see if I could do it, but haven't yet. Bands are fun, but they're a helluva lot of work if you do it right.

I kind of think the same thing, Sam got behind and is having trouble catching up. Seems like the biggest problem for us has been the multiple deadlines, because it's really only been about 6 weeks since it was supposed to even ship. Just seems like a long time because we've been waiting for each of those deadlines, but not so long really. I've been waiting for months (many of them) for any official word from TGC about an FPSC fix/upgrade. Besides the line in the monthly newsletter.

I've heard different things about what came on the disk, but I'm still not sure what it was. Is it a downloader that installs from the program from the net, or the whole program that just can't be installed without activation from the net? I know Oolite said the media itself would be a download, but I don't know about the "extra" software - Model Pro, etc.

Maybe one of these days soon we'll all be Quiklying away wondering what all the fuss was about. If Sam did get behind, I wouldn't mind if he came on and said he had problems and it will be a little longer, just to know it's getting there. Meantime, I'm back to working on Torque stuff, and checking in here once a week or so.

Yes, but how much have we heard from Sam in those 6 weeks? He posted a few times about 3 weeks after the deadline (remember, he took off then, too for a long time), then that was it. Nothing more of him, and his site is offline.

I can safely say that nothing, aside from a death in the family (which I don't even want to joke about in case that is the case), is an excuse for not letting us know.

The least he could do is tell us that there are still last minute bugs he's ironing out. I mean, he's a very friendly guy and we would all be happy to know that it's still coming. But now we can't be sure it's even coming. I'm kind of close to requesting my money back.

I have everything ready to dive in to do this game prototype, but not the Quikly tools. I mean, I already own DBP, PlayBasic and Torque--- I don't really *need* another one. But since I've paid for it (over $50 CDN including shipping), then I deserve to have something more than a paperweight.

*grumbles*

I sent an email to Sam on 21/03 asking him to reactivate the server so we can install the software but have not had a reply.I have his home address but unfortunately he is ex-directory. If I haven't heard from him by the weekend then I will snail mail him. Whether I will get a reply or not is anybodies guess.

Altho heres a thought... Anyone know his full name?? I jus know him as Kang and Sam, in the newsletter he said that there was some sort of deal with a recording studio, maybe he works there, it could be worth a try.. it's quite a measure to goto but people do need to know.. Even if i were to never get the damn software i for one would much rather know!!!!

There is no software on the CD-- just an installer to download the files from his server.

Pity that was the only way he thought to make his software secure-- he's probably right.

I'm not a UKer, just a mid-west USer. I don't really know any way to contact Sam, other than email. Don't know if Oolite has a better method or not. I do know Oolite has a lot of time invested in some of the media that's going to accompany Quikly. We talk fairly often and he's waiting too.

I did get my CD today, though. Package in good shape. Finally was able to take a look. As Jeku says, it's an installer that will download files from the net. Guess we'll see what happens.

As I've mentioned before, I have a lot of irons in the fire so getting it right away isn't a big deal, and the money wouldn't hurt much, but I do know that a lot of people are really counting on getting it soon and looking forward to playing with it, and to some it is a lot of money. Gives me a little different perspective than some, but I can understand the concern out there. I hope for everybody's sake Sam let's us know something soon. Cobra_One's email is 8 days old now. I suppose eventually I'll run out of patience too, but for now I'm still just waiting to see...

Hi all,

I dig up an alternative e-mailaddress from a friend of Sam which he used first for receiving payments through Paypal.
I mentioned this friend that his customers want to get in touch with him desperately and therefore asked him to contact via the threads Program Announcements / Work in Progress.

Hopefully he will contact us.

Greetings.

Seems that in older mail Sam mentioned his home address for a bank transfer. I will not mention it on this board.

He lives in Somerset. Is anyone living in the area ?

Maybe someone can reach him then.

That information is free for anyone to see on the internet, unless you pay for private registration it's all public, and you accept that when you buy a domain.

i'm sure he won't appreciate you pasting all his personal details on the internet though, not heard about the big fraud scams happening everywhere, they can do it with just that information as well...

how come no-one had his information anyway? i'm sure his contact info was on paypal, if you didn't pay by paypal, you sent him a cheque, so you had to have his adress, thats what i did, i sent a postal order...

I have spoken to Sam on the phone and he told me his Mum is seriously ill and he is having to spend alot of time looking after her which has delayed the finishing of the software. He should be able to update us with news in the next week or two and asks us to be patient a little longer and said the software is not dead. I informed him that people are getting anxious and he said he would try and post to the Forums himself soon.

This simply means, his server has locked the DNS so it can't be transferred, with out a request from the owner.
Some hosts will try to charge you, to let you move your domain name to another server, Easyspace, (easycon) being one of them.

I paid my money to a Pay Pal address, and that is where I will be asking for my money back, I suggest you do the same, when Sams friend gets demands for money, maybe he will drive some sense in to him.
By the way, Sam owes you nothing if you did not pay him, by law it's his friend with the Pay Pal account who took the money, what he done with it after has nothing to do with you.
Think about it.

I have sent this email to the pay pal address, I sent my money:

Quote: "I am requesting a full refund of $34.90, sent to you on 8TH January 2006, for the Quikly Game Studio Pro software, which I have not received.
I am requesting this from you, as you are the email address that accepted my money, and therefore responsible for this transaction.
I hope to hear from you regarding this matter within the next seven day’s, with my refund, if not, I will have to take further action.
Thanks
John O’Shea.

I will file a complaint with Pay Pal if Mr PR, does not reply, and put things right.

I already looked into a complaint with Paypal if Sam doesn't respond to my refund request (which he hasn't so far). Turns out it may be difficult if the transaction was over 45 days ago. Even if he shows up today I will still want a refund, as who can predict whether he will do this again later on?

I think we should all lodge a complaint at the same time, if we don’t get a rebate, that will catch Pay Pal's eye.

I will give it seven day’s, but he is not coming back, I can’t see any reason for not letting us know his intentions, it’s been three months since I sent my payment.

Sunrise 3D says “what corner, I want to buy one.”

And there he goes again. Like I've said before, it's not about the software. I'm sure the Quikly suite will be as good as it was promised, *when* it's released.

However, how can we be sure if something comes up he doesn't run off again for months at a time and close his forums down? I expect a certain level of support when I purchase a product.

Yes... it's been 17 days since he was supposed to update his website. Even more if you count when he took it off. Hell, if about 3 weeks isn't enough to get back to work over.. whatever problem he's made up, then how long is it going to take?

I sent a request to the email address I my money went to, but I have not herd anything back, nor do I think I will hear anything.
It makes me laugh; even his mate will not reply to our emails, if I was him, I may have been tempted to say it had nothing to do with me, but not a thing.
Now that speaks volumes to me.
I suggest we all get together next week and if we have not herd anything, then we should lodge a complaint with Pay Pal, and get his account closed.

Cats are good fighters, as long as they are in group really, however, you've seen the picture of Kangaroo, he has boxing gloves, christ sake, you can NEVER bet a Kangaroo that wear's boxing gloves, its just impossible!

Quote: "Pay Pal, and get his account closed."

Isn't that a bit extreme? You can have paypal try and contact him via non computer media, surely they can use the mail, I mean if paypal can't get any replies it would be pretty much standard for them to close the account
