David, have you got any animated sprites suitable for a 2d horizontal shoot-em-up that I could "borrow" ?
I want to convert over something I coded in Blitz2d but I don't want to use the gfx I did in that (they were sample gfx from the dxcreator library)..
Cheers,
Steve

I added the Pacman Ghost and Maze sprites to the earlier post.

Fash, you may have missed it, but when posting a request it helps to specify size info and post samples if possible. That said, I'm not much of an animator, so I don't have many animated sprites in my reserves.

Cheers!

P.S. In case you miss my meaning, the more generic the request the less likely I will do the graphics.

One of the enemies (although there's one too many anim frames in it)

The game (on blitz) had multiple weapons (front laser, reverse laser, circular shields etc), ans scrolling tilemap.
I'm wanting to convert to DBp but using original gfx rather than the borrowed ones I've posted..
Hope this gives you an idea of the type of thing I mean.
Cheers,
Steve

Ouch, 5 posts in a row, try the edit button in the future, and or just put all the samples in one zip to attach. (ok, spam handled, no need to make more posts on the issue of multiple posts, thanks)

That taken care of, interesting and simple to do, I see little point in having things animated, their movement and the ships should provide enough visual movement (explosions of course should be animated I can do that easy enough)

Stay tuned, Cheers!

Edit: the first sample looks like a red asteroid.. just grab the asteroids I already posted and rotate/resize in game as required.

Edit2: are the top and bottom borders fixed or do they scroll with the ship? (If they scroll I could do a panaramic surface with mountains to look something like the surface of a big asteroid.) the ship would then be evading debris like small meteors etc while skimming the surface. (it's just a thought)

Edit3: I'm almost finished a set of 'pipe' sprites for any kind of pipe mania type game, I'll do a backdrop too and will post them soon.

Edit4: I put the pipes on hold, I just had to make a wicked side-scroller Fighter,.. loosly based on the Viper from BSG.

Enjoy!

Here is a wood texture for use on tree limbs, which it works very well on.

And here are some leaves

Here is what I could make out of them

Here are 3 explosion anims in different sizes,.. 64x64, 48x48, 32x32 and 16 frames. (each is slightly different)

Cheers!

Edit: and here is a seamless sidescrolling bottom background.. (can be pasted at bottom of screen with a starfield background or some such. Also in this bitmap I made 0,0,0 the transparent color.)

Enjoy!

@dabip, Yahoo Messenger, and add me. I was trying to add you

@david, nice pacman sprites, I will make a pacman game using those sprites, after I drink a can of Sprite lol

and the 5 posts in a row, you could have zipped all the files together instead together

edit: look at the 100th post., lol

DBPro Guy, If you are refering to your request for a carpet,.. you must have missed my request for size/specs for what you need. I have some 32x32 tiles that are of red carpet runners and borders. I could expand on those. What size do you need?

Cheers!

Hey David, could you make the text from a to z and numbers 0 to 9 the same as the text you use for my background? That way I can make an awewomw menu and stuff.

Wow, I sure will invest in SE5. I believe zircher is a beta tester in it..

But good suggestion, but I dont have many fonts installed. Could they just be 30x30 generic images?

Again thanks, and good luck

Here are the pipe sprites,.. Solid and with water flowing through them.

Cheers!

Dabip, what is an awewomw menu?? Wouldn't it be easier if I link you to the font?

Edit: the Fonts used in the XFighter logo are as follows.. "X"=Mistral "Fighter"=Artbrush (Artbrush was also used for the level and score names.) the fonts should be easy enough to find doing a google search. I believe I pulled them off the net, or from one of my many Font collection CD's

Edit2: Here are a few flags (in 30x30 tiles but the actual flacs are not the full height, most flags are not square anyways.)

Enjoy!

I llike pie, I've been doing computer artwork for 25 years now so I guess you can say practice makes perfect. But in truth, good tools also help to make things easier. Artgem, Paint Shop Pro 8 (and a few choice plugins), Bryce 5.5 and a number of other tools help allot.

In the end I'd say that it's a 50/50 marriage between skill and tools. As a 2D artist, I'm a dying breed. Who knows, in another 25 years I might be able to claim my 2D artwork as antique and charge more for my skill. lol

Cheers!

Edit: sorry for the double post, but I got tired of editing lol

How about Galaga-style aliens for a scrolling space shooter?

BTW, you are the best thing to happen for us who still enjoy creating 2D games. Your unselfishness is truely outstanding David. Keep up the outstanding job!

Ok, I decided to make my an old game of mine available for you lucky visitors to this thread. It's called LaserCross Deluxe. All the Coding and graphics are by me written in Dev C++ with the Allegro lib. It was made about 6 years ago and was my first 'C' program, prior to that my only PC programming xp was with QBasic 4.5 (aaah the good old days)

http://madman1337.ftpaccess.cc/degart/LaserCross.zip

Feedback would be welcome. (I'm debating weather to make an 'ultimate LaserCross in DBPro)

Cheers!

That's pretty good. I like it. As for the fonts, I found ArtBrush, but the other one, Mistral, you have to pay for.

Those flags are great! I really do hope you have a happy stay with dark basic pro. Lasercross was a fun game. Very addictive, like all 2d games. (which was why I was iffy on civ 4 switch, and SE5 switch)

Ok, you want to peek inside my head? See what kind of games I made in the good old days of QBasic 4.5? Ok, here is a gamepack of 10 or so games with a handy menu with even more peeks of my warped brain.

WARNING!: You need Dos-Box v0.62 or higher to run this GamePack. (It will lock up your computer if you try to run it from winXP/2000.) Simply unzip to say D:\Gp then in Dos-Box type "mount C: D:\Gp" then type C: to go to the newly mounted drive and type "gpmenu"[enter]

http://madman1337.ftpaccess.cc/degart/Gp.zip

It's a good thing I'm an artist and not a programmer first, at least my games look ok. Let me know your favorite game,.. I have 3 favorites,.. LaserCross (which I have upgraded to 'Deluxe' and posted earlier in this thread) Tumble match and Swap'n'Go

Enjoy!

Cheers!

P.S. I also updated the pipe pieces so, you may need to reload the pics to get the most recent ones.

DarkBasic Pro Guy - well use "scale object x,10,10,10" or even "scale object x,0.1,0.1,0.1" depending on how big they are compared to your world - you can scale objects to any size

yeah I kind of thought about that. didn't exactly know if it would work on foreign objects (objects not created in program)

Here are some simple play, options, and credits buttons that would be used for a game where you are in a dungeon somehow.

Use them well. For those interested I used the gimp, click on Xtns>Script-Fu>Logos>Textured

Avoid using filters... It makes the objects look junky. This is in reference to the shiney buttons by Image All. When I first started playing with photoshop, I used them because it was select, pick, bang. After awhile, they started to hold me back in terms of creativity... Now they just look junky. I suppose if you're just making buttons for some kind of interface it's not bad.

I was thinking just for a menu or something; I think the horribly-pixelated part of the START item is because I was messing around with the Value Curve, and compressed the image
