Quote: "ITS NOT FAIR !!! how some people on this forum are flaming the work of zizaco. Okay, he used a FREE model and edited it. the texture is partially from a hl2 model. but not more than 50% i think"

No, he originally claimed that this was HIS work, that is what I have a problem with. And he's still defending himself.

Quote: "i mean, you also could have said, "wow, great work !! keep on !!""

What work? The work here is from other people, myself included. Other than chopping up a commercial texture, there was no "work" involved here. Certainly nothing original.

Quote: "Thanks Zizaco for the Variations in model(Open chest, Head, Hands) and for the Self Made Textures (Hand, Head, etc...)
"

YOU DIDN'T MAKE THE HEAD! It's been pieced together from the HL2 texture!

The texture is almost ENTIRELY the HL2 texture, there's no 2 ways around it. Every visible part on the model has been pieced together from this texture. And the few tiny parts that AREN'T are from Jonathan's texture. There is NOTHING original with the texture, simply dabbing a few dark spots to simulate bullet holes doesn't count for anything in my book.

Editing free models is fine, taking credit for others work isn't fine. If he would have been up front about it from the beginning it would have been a whole different story.

Good luck getting it FPSC-ready, but I don't want anything to do with it at this point.

It's nice Jonathan is being so understanding, I certainly wouldn't have been so nice about it. If someone wouldn't have called Zizaco's bluff he'd still be claiming it was his own model...

well, he's a new modeller, i suppose its only natural for one to want attention or inspiration from positively based criticism, it gives them a boost, and i suppose it helps them get into the field of 3d design.

I can see why some people would think overwise, as long as you know your restrictions, its fine with me

That's a nice way to think about it.

And it only took about a day, and several accusations, for Zizac to give you the credit you deserve.

EDIT: I'm not holding any grudge against you Zizaco, I just wish you would have been more up-front at the outset...to be fair it IS a nice edit.

@bond1 - care to team up on a little free zombie project for the community? I'll do the modelling and texturing (with no fear of copyright issues ), if you'll sign on to do the rigging. I have two or three different variations in mind, so players can have a diverse mob shuffling towards them. BTW, I model and texture very slowly, so even if you say 'yes' you probably won't have to do anything for a week or more

Cheers

So all I have to do is rig and export a fully textured model? I'm tempted to say yes, but I'm just so busy with new stuff of my own. Its going slower than I would like, due to real life...

But if all I have to do is rig and export, I think I can find time for that, just contact me outside the forums and let me know when you have something ready.

What kind of bumpmap tool do You use? It looks a bit strange... I courld recommend Nvidia bumpmap tool in Deep Exporation... By the way, is it ok to make a mod of the model if You want???

The map is actually called a "Normal Map" (I believe 3DS Max can now generate them); it's an enhanced Bump Map. A bump map uses the grey scale to show depth. Good work, Zizaco.
