About The Game
This game is called "Alone". It is a "Horror First Person Stealth Shooter". It was originally worked on with the name "Zombie Hunter 3". Developement on ZH3 has been restarted endless times, but now that I have lots of plugins like DarkPhysics, Extends, Styx etc. I decided that it is finally time to "write the game". So without further ado, here is my WIP for the game horror game "Alone".

How is Stealth integrated?
Basically, you have the ability to hide from the enemies in shadows or behind objects. You can crouch in order to walk soundless, for example if you don't have any ammo and need to get past an enemy where there is an ammo box, you can try to sneak behind him. Watch out so you don't accidentially step on a metal grate or move an object -which makes sounds, as this will alert the enemies about your whereabouts.

Artificial Intelligence (This is what I have planned)
These are Zombies. But not the kind of zombies you are used to. In Alone, the zombies are smart (as smart as I can make them). If you block the path to your current location, the zombies will try to find a way around, or if they are strong enough, toss the objects out of the way. If you lock a door and the zombies know you are inside the room, they will try to break the door in order to get inside. They will use any possible route; climb through window, climb through ventilation systems etc.

Hi Xen.
First of: No, I never quit. Though I have talked to Gil about quitting the POPR team. It's kind of hard to put words for the reason why I quit that team and my break from DB. Let me just say it's personal.

Anyway, I have seen your models around some times, and I rather like them. They are good for gaming ant that's what they were made for.

Can't wait to see what you come up with

Sounds good. I'll sign on MSN and I'll add you.

We can talk about the kinds of models you want me to make

EDIT: I checked your first post again, and I'll start on those concept art models. I'll do them to the best of my ability.

Game King,
Thanks, this menu is actually textured 3D Planes positioned and rotated to simulate photos.
In Zombie Hunter 3 (where I first made the menu ([link])) I was using 2D Images and a Color map to determine whether or not the mouse was positioned on a image/button. that didn't work for some people so I decided to write a new menu but still keep the same concept.

Xenocythe,
Sounds good.
Can't wait to start the Weapons module for the game.
I just finished the inventory now so it will be awesome to select weapons and stuff from it.
And I want to kill this test zombie that is running around the level (for AI development).

However, Blobby could you showcase anything for me?

Lukas W, I will do some modeling job for you, for a small price.
Just 5-10€, and you'll get the best quality models I can produce

At this moment I do not have any other models to show than this:

190 polygons, the model was done just for some texturing practise.

Snowwolf,
I guess because basically this is a more of a team request than an actual WIP. But it doesn't bother me, the game isn't anywhere near to what I have in mind (well the menu is exactly as how I had in mind).

Xenocythe,
I like the model, but the texture you use makes it look like a medieval style hand axe. Here is a texture I had in mind http://www.toolspot.co.uk/products/Axes/Wood%20Handle%20Hand%20Axe_t.jpg (apollo will not let me make it a clickable link as it contains spaces)

Deagle,
Sorry I will not pay for any models.

Mr Tank, Thanks.

If anyone is interested I have access to my website again (properly now) and I have uploaded what I have done with the game. (It isn't much at all).

The story you read here is made up in two or three minutes and have nothing to do what so ever with the game.
Everything you see in the demo is just placeholders I have created for when I develop the game. When all modules are finished I will be able to start working on "the game".

Download is here: http://lukasw.com/other/aloneprealpha.rar ~ 15mb.

It is required that you have ShaderModule 2.0 for best shader effects but version 1.4 will also work.

Controls:
WASD - Move
Left Shift - [hold] Run
Left Control - Hide in shadows
F - Flashlight
TAB - Inventory

Also, I forgot to edit the game settings, so if you download the game and you cannot start it, try to edit the file "settings.set" (open in notepad) and replace the lines with these:

I made this for a modeling compo.

woa, I forgot I made this post.
Anyway, I am having an exam at the moment, so I am not able to do any work for this week. and it all depends on if I pass or fail the exam; if I fail I won't be able to work on this either, because I need more practise for the exam when I have to take it again.
But so far it looks good and I'm quite certain I will pass. but I can't say I trust my instinct on this one.

Randomness,
Yea, I know what you mean, but I don't have any proper microphone or any software (except audacity) for voice manipulation/audio editing. So in the coming demos it will just be place holders until some nice guy volunteers to record stuff for me
I'm glad you like my voice acting though.

Dr Manette,
I'm glad you like it so far, but I don't like it so far.
the graphical level is nowhere near of what I want it to be.
I want to push DBPro to its graphical limit and then some.

Wendox,
The blur is also just a placeholder until I get a real blur shader. (currently I'm using a transparent sprite with the texture of the old camera angle/position).
That crowbar looks just like it would fit in the game! only a Highres texture is missing. and then I'll convert the texture into a dot3 map, so it'll support normal mapping. it will be awesome.
oh btw, did you just showcase or did you make it for the game? It looks awesome so would you mind if I used it?

blobby,
I'm afraid Inspire is right. Meshes with smoothing looks like a low polygon object with waaay too many polygons, unless used in the right way.

Snowwolf,
I'll get back to you again later sometime next week. Atm I want to concentrate on the exam, but I definetley need help with map design. If you tested the demo you can understand why

Gil Galvanti,
Thanks (I hope you don't finish popr until I get back in, haha)

fxgamer,
No. Shader Module is not downloadable.
Shader Module is a Feature on graphics cards.
Graphics cards with a ShaderModule basically means A graphics card that can run shaders.

Well, better get back to working on the exam now.
I have just finished creating an image of a client and I will see if I can send it over to another client. if I manage, I just saved 2hours of work.

fxgamer,
I see. Basically I don't know what that dll is for, but it's probably something that was compiled into the game .exe.
try to download this [link] and put it in your %windir%\system32 folder.

if that didn't help try to download the latest version of directx9 [link]

Wendox,
I could try to make my own texture, if you didn't make your own :/
but do you have a download link?

Xenocythe,
No problem.
What's currenlty left is (see first post) HandAxe, Metal Pipe, Player Hand(s) and Zombie Girl (child).

Wendox,
Wow. Looks awesome Thanks a lot.
I'm afraid you won't be able to see them in the game for a while though. First of all I'm having the exam this week, second I probably need to rewrite the game engine(s) so it'll support customization (atm everyrhing is hard coded).
After that I'll probably be able to work on the weapons module.

Accoun,
We'll have to see what's left after Xen, but are you any good with character modelling?

It is DBPro (did you see the logo in the top left corner of the application window, oh and the windows gadgets, DBC doesn't have that).

Do you think the vertexes could be facing the wrong way? but if that was true wouldn't the right side be visible when looking at the left side? hmm..

The faces or vertexes are not facing the wrong way, i just tested.

I played around with the main joint, and the groups and stuff.

How does this version of the axe work?

The screenshots look great, and the game-description also sounds very interesting. So of course I downloaded the file, unpacked it, tried to start... error (32 bit not supported by hardware or something). So I changed the settings-file how you told us, but now it sais "Display-Size illegal at line 1582"... What a shame. Do you have an idea what could be the problem? (Maybe wrong display size, but it seems to work at most other computers, and I don't know why my screen or graphics card should not be able to apply a rather normal screen size.. however)
I hope the game gets along well, will have some looks at it in future. And good luck with your exams.

I couldn't sleep and it's already 0:56am :/ So I'm here again..

Xen,
Go ahead, You made them after all.

Mr Kohl,
It sounds odd.
I have made some slight modifications on the code since the demo was released, so at the moment line 1582 is a blank line between two functions. It will be hard to figure out what was written here.
But maybe it is a screen resolution related issue, maybe not.

In the settings file,
top line: 0=640x480 and 8=1360x768
second line: 0=16 bit and 1=32 bit
Are you sure you put zeros on both the top line and second line?
This way it will run a resolution of 640x480x16 which is supported by every 3d card available on the market today.
I can't really think of anything else to check at the moment.

I don't know why they want payment as the dll is free.
I didn't know that until you just said so.

Anyway, if you download the latest version of directx 9 (august 2007 version) you should get the dll.. probably.
