ok - i've started a game, i'm about 5% of the way through so it's not ready for a WIP. But i wanted to get peoples opinions, although this is NOT a team request, I am looking for someone who can do isometric sprites in an AoE style.

Empire Of The Pharaohs

This is an Age Of Empires Style RTS set in ancient Egypt. You are a man who, After Being drowned in a flood of the Nile, has been called upon by the god Horus to Become a Pharaoh in the Heavens. You Can Order Buildings to be built, get monuments and statues made, Fight wars and Lead your Country Through Famine, Plague etc.

It's An Isometric 2D (3D? not sure what you class isometric as.) Game and i wanted to hear what people think of it. I will put progress here until I think it's ready to get a W.I.P thread.

thanks to deathead for the sig! please Click on it!

Sounds neat, but maybe a little bit too standard. Take out the words "Ancient Egypt" and "Pharoah" and you could be talking about any RTS there is. All those actions you mention, you can do in other RTSs also. Yes, the fact that all the buildings are Egyptian and all that makes it original, but you need something else that makes it different from other RTS games (for example, Empire Earth has epochs that you can advance through, you can play in many different ages of the earth).

yeah, i know what you mean, i was thinking of having two modes, Main game and Sandbox mode. In the main game, there are also funds and money to manage, and you go from a sort of middle date (2500 BC - Egypt was already powerful then) to the end of the ancient Egyptians.
I am also open for suggestions if anyone has any ideas.
EDIT: just made a sig. Uploading it...
EDIT2: Testing...
Re testing...

You've mispelt "Pharaohs" in your sig. Though "Paraohs" would be a cool name for, I don't know, a race of alien or something.

Give me an ounce of Puyo, good apothecary, to sweeten my imagination.

Sounds a lot like the game "Pharaoh".

Lol, it was a fairly popular and a pretty good game when it was released . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pharaoh_and_Cleopatra_%28computer_game%29
I suggest picking it up at your local store for the $5.00 it probably cost now.

The basic idea sounds good, but I think it could really do with, like bmaczero said, a unique selling point. I suggest either having making it absolutely historically accurate (so it can sort of educate people about Egypt's history which is, to most people, a vague blur with pyramids) or throw realism out the window and perhaps make it so that, as the Pharaoh becomes more and more god-like, he can call on the powers of Egyptian deities. It would be cool to see enemy soldiers having their hearts weighed by Anubis and devoured by the Crocodile.

I'm not actually a Kiwi, I just randomly thought it up one day.

i like the idea of being able to communicate with other gods when you are more powerful.
As i'm finding out, Isometric is HARD, so i wanted to know - should i make this 3d? i will make it an isometric view, but should i make it in 3d? purely so that it's easier really.

Yes! However, developing a RTS game is HARD.

Isometric View is very traditional in a RTS. Perhaps you can introduce other camera perspectives and controls to take full advantage of a true 3D environment to add more dimension to the game (pun intended).

The Egyptian-Theme is very nice, but, as Darth Kiwi has suggested consider throwing realism out the window. What could you do with Ancient Egyptian-Inspired Fantasy/SciFi? You could give your game its own flavor compared to "Pharaoh" released in 1999. HORUS sounds like a pretty cool name for such a game.

ok, i've decided to carry on using isometric sprites, but to speed up the creation on them, i'm making them in 3d then rendering them.
I have a picture of the Old King's Throne Room(W.I.P):

what do people think?

Sounds interesting. I'm glad you decided to go with the whole Gods thing - I think it'll make it more interesting.
