We all know there is a 3d comp. But what about a 2d comp! Like drawing Sprites, characters and scenes! To start this off, you must draw in any style you want, to draw your favourite game character from Kirby to Mastercheif what ever you want. Here is the Requirements for you art piece...
1.You can draw in any style you like(Pixels, Manga etc.)
2.It must be of a game character nothing else.
3.The size must be lower than 1280x1024.
4.You cannot edit a screenshot like altering it, it is allowed if it was over-drawn.

Your Works in Progress and Final Entries posted here.
You can only change your final entry once!

Like the 3d Comps this will be a monthly, depending on how well this went.
ALL ENTRIES IN BY 20th AUG 2008 22:00 GMT

Cheers,
Deathead
Now go get drawing!!

p.s. If the game is based on a series, it is welcome.

sounds good, I always thought A compo was something this board lacks. There is (Probs) Just as much 2D talent Around here as 3D!

sounds fun. And the prize is Honor and Glory.

EDIT:
Hmm, Here is my work in progress. NOT my entry, just showing off ms paint and only around a half hour

Its pay'j from Beyond Good and Evil, the main character's Uncle who is a talking pig.

EDIT2:
The first picture is attached.
This is my third draft, now with color !

EDIT3:
This is the fourth draft. Now color shading! I heart MS paint.
The first and sucky one is still attached.
This is as of yet, is still NOT my entry.
The quality of the drawings is mest up. Theres not all that fuzzyness in MSpaint... ?

So that is my progress after around an hour and a half.

This is my WIP, not even ready for a WIP thread yet though.http://smallgroupproductions.com/

I'll need a better definition. I didn't use a 3D modeler if that's what you're asking. I used a program called POV-Ray that makes near photo-realistic pictures from geometric formulas. It's all text based. I can create objects that provide me a 2D representation of a 3D object. But in order to rotate or translate the object I have to change the text itself. The "code" I used the generate the image looks like this:

It took me about an hour to work out the full set with some trial and error on placement of the individual parts.

Well, the overall idea was flat 2d surfaces. Like, manga, Chibi and painted images. As that is done with code, its not allowed. Like this.

etc.

Ah what the hell, why not. Here is something I wiped up in MS paint, It is from a game that inspired me to start coding myself and to create my own stories be it short story or free form bedroom coding RPG adventure: I hope you like. (Oh and the background image is a cut and paste job, everything eles is all me)

Make sure you add to the rules that you cannot just edit a screenshot. If you don't I will take advantage.

My WIP. The main character from a fun game called "Chex Quest." Drawn in photoshop using only the brush tool, except for the flemoid (the green guy on the right), who probably won't be in the final anyway.

Thanks guys . This is probably the final version. I've just patched up some of the holes in the armor and made a few other minor adjustments like that. I also made his legs shorter, to make him look more stocky like he is in the game. I did leave the flemoid in, because I thought it looked better when the Chex Warrior actually had something to point at.

Edit: Forgot the size limit

I'm contemplating entering this as I too would like to see a 2D compo established. 2D art is an important part of game creation, either in the form of concept art, or game assets such as sprites.

It's a shame 2D chat isn't more like 3D chat. The majority of the threads in this board are programming ones. Why don't they go in the DBPro/DBC boards? 3D chat isn't full of posts on 3D programming.

Anyway kinda went on a mini rant there . Not sure if I will have much time this month to work on anything. Good luck with the compo though Deathead.

Thanks. Just alittle heads up. Just to get alittle of 2d Compo attention I might just email this to the news letter just to get recognition.

Hi

I just discovered the thread. Can you clarify the rules a little? Do you have to strictly use only software to create your image? For instance, I like to sketch on paper and then scan for embelishing in photoshop or another art program. Is this acceptable? Also, is the goal to create an original game character? Thanks!

Quistis is awesome too. That guy should have totally got with her instead of that other girl. But anyway this is Nina from Tekken.

I vote for flashing snall - nice use of paint .

Tank's was very good as well but some of the proportions/ foreshortening was out. Still better than anything I could do.
