Started June 1st, 2009, (Galactic Assault?):

This game is set to be a free-form space mmorpg where players start out in a neutral-faction mothership where they are able to choose apon a multitude of different paths for their character to take, from leading the life of a rescource collector or command entire fleets of player controlled ships to conquer the galaxy.

Players will have the ability to lead a loyal life to the neutral-faction carrying out different tasks assuring the functionality and well being of the mothership. Players will also have the choice of creating or joining other player-created factions set out to hold peace throughout the galaxy or bring corruption and conquer planets around the galaxy through an advanced "Capture and Hold" system. Players will not be limited in any areas of advancement with an "Unlimited Leveling" system and "Total Upgrade" functionality bring the RPG aspect to an entire new level. Each player will be responsible for themselves and their ship, which through advancement and upgrades could one day beccome a space station providing support for other ships in the solar system or beccome a powerful flagship.

To elaborate more on the "Capture and Hold" system for taking over a planet, each planet will have a certian amount of "Control Bases" which a players faction must take into posession and hold, once every "Control Base" on a single planet has been captured by a single faction that planet beccomes owned by that faction leader and each base will be owned by the appropriate player that converted the base to their faction. Faction leaders will be able to "edit" and "enhance" each base on any planet they own as they see fit, the base-owning-player will be able to "edit" and "enhance" their base only.

This will not be your standard "rpg" gameplay where you click an enemy and press a button then your player automatically attacks until one of you dies or runs off. You will be in control of when you hit, how you hit, when you block, how you block, along with the standard "special" moves. There will be a sort of FPS sense to this rpg style of gameplay not to where as you have to aim the weapon yourself but in how you go about fighting the other players.

Thats all i'm going to go into right now, more will be added in the future.

What are the unique highlights of your MMO (other than being in space) thats gonna separate it from the pack? I would expect for the amount of work involve, you want to offer something unique to attract players.

Lots of space themed MMOs making the scene and I've have even thought about developing one myself. C O S M: A Concept for Inner-Space MORPG.

Well, after I create a working basics I will put out an update that features the things that will set it apart from all the others, have failth in time I will give wonders! =]

One thing I will reveal is that you get to create your own base with automated security 'devices' and such which is for a different area of gameplay. =D

Mind you, that 'demo' thing I released is an alpha so yea.

Added a screen shot of the newly created Login Screen! This is the initial screen that now shows when you first launch the program, it features two working text boxes and a clickable button on a picture of the planet earth, all the while the space in the background is tilting and turning in different directions. =P

Updated Main Post.

Made GREAT progress today, much was accomplished and many of bug were squashed!

Expect more frequent updates cause now I have a full load of work that needs done, and then some =D

I can also put a vague time frame around when a working demo will be released that can connect to a main server(ran by me ofc)
Probably close to 2-3 months

Oh & Were at 1827 lines xD hardly anything but still I thought I would mark it down!

EDIT: I should also be posting some more, new, screen shots within the next two or three days, as soon as there is something new to take a screen shot of hehe
EDIT: EDIT: Lemmings for everyone!! xD

=D I'm currently working on letting the player go into a "Ship" mode, all seems to be going good except for my lack in models of space ships, using a placeholder right now! yay for flying space bound duckies!! >.< (and models in general)

EDIT: Seems as if moving the players ship on the y axis according to its x angle is a little tricky xD

EDIT:EDIT: Never mind, got it xD

Updated Main Post.
New Screenshot!

Added the ability to switch between character and ship mode.
Clients in ship mode are able to move freely in all 3 dimensions.

I've also decided to slow down a little since I was starting to burn myself out

EDIT: The current ship model is just a placeholder.

Looks nice! I like the login screen.

The "sun" looks quite low poly, if your using the built in primitives I suggest using: dbMakeObjectSphere( ID , Radius , 40 , 40 );

Ah! I was wondering how to make it not so blocky looking
Eventually i'll implement some fancy shaders to give a nice "sun" look to it xD

EDIT: Could a Moderator please remove the "MMO " from my title? Thanks a million! =]

Not droping the mmo idea, no way jose! I've been told it might detur people from viewing the thread.

And its not "trying" it will be, i'm not your average person, I've created all this so far in about 15 days, I learn extremely fast and can figure out 'most' things on my own or from studying others code.

Updated Main Post.

Planets are now created server-side and their information sent to the clients.
Planets can orbit the origen.
Still need to make it so planets can orbit other planets and such.

Nothing worthy of a screenshot this time around

I know I'll probably get a noob slap for this, but I want to bump this thread before it slips onto page 2. I'm sure you're still working very hard on it, kklouzal, even if it has been almost a month. Any progress?

Permanoobs are awesome.

You can always post source only, we don't have to have the media.

The source might help these people:
Those who use Dark GDK
Those who want to know networking
Those who want to know MMO's

I use Dark GDK, but honestly I've never attempted a MMO.

Anyways do you still have the source?
