Okay, my first WIP (well it's not my first but my last one wasn't really a WIP... i don't want to talk about it)

Shapes is a 2D game.
The objective is to dodge the enemy's that are flying upwards.
You play as a small space ship and, at the moment, the enemy's are blue stars.
You need to stay alive for as long as possible, every 5000 equals one level.

Bugs:
At the moment i am using box collision(which i hate and am changing soon).

When the Player starts again after loosing the spaceship can randomly rotate (only once).


I do have a lot of stuff done even though it dosn't sound it.

Good luck man. Just one thing - the menu screen looks a bit fancy compared to the game over screen - if you're going for an old-school, simple, blocky style on one you should keep it consistent.

I smile when I see smaller projects like this. Too many people are trying to make "engines."

started work on a couple of new things like:

red stars that take 2 shots

power-ups

super power(ship turns blue and shoots bigger bullets)

and i'm thinking about lasers!

Would like to play the demo but it runs very fast on my PC.
Maybe you forgot to limit the sync rate!?

The game is pretty cool. I like the graphics and how they fit to each other. I also like the idea of powerups you thought about.
Beside to that, I would love to see some smoother movement of the ship, maybe something like asteroids uses. Also, change your sprite offset to rotate it around its center

Set it after creating the sprite for the first time and before rotating it; no need to put this into the main loop:



The offset is calculated relativly from the sprite's position, so using SPRITE X() is wrong here

New Demo!

Added 3 enemy's, the boss at level 8, row of indestructible ships and red stars.

I also added boundaries, Green star that gives an extra life(dosn't work yet) and the player rotates in the center, not the corner

Thanks Baxslash!

I can't work on this so much now because of school but i hope that i can sketch some new enemy's in school then when i get home i will re-draw them on my laptop and program them into the game but homework may get in the way of that

i did some drawings and write down some new ideas in french but left my book in class

p.s. the reason that i need to do some sketches is because i want to add 10-50 more enemys

p.s.s. the game will work in stages. each boss battle will mark the end of the stage

I'm working on how the enemys are made, at the moment they are all made at once but I'm changing it so only the enemys that will be visible are made I'm also working on a new enemy, it's a raindrop that appears on the second stage. it comes down from the top

I do wish someone would post... it saves me double/triple posting! XP

Okay, I got the new system to work so now it should run the same speed on almost any computer, It makes adding new enemys easier for me(i almost had 600 sprite all being made at the same time , but now i have 5-40) and, The enemies never end! (so the boss battles won't just be you vs. the boss!)

I need to fix the water droplets (the appear in a big bunch) and It should be ready for a new demo!

It's really frustrating when you just want some feedback, I downloaded the game a while ago and never got round to playing it.

I just downloaded it again and I'll post something later today!! Post your screeny anyway.

I'd appreciate it if even a quarter of the people who downloaded my game would leave some kind of comment!! I feel for you and will try to redress the balance a little just can't right now [working...]

OK, I played it finally!

Overall I thought it showed a lot of promise! As a player of 'Asteroids' as a boy I like the gameplay.

Pros:
Done right the gameplay could be edge of the seat stuff
Although there is no explanation of what the 'shapes' are and why we might be shooting them I think with a cunning explanation they give the game an original feel.

Cons:
The 'ship' moves too 'stop-start' and could benefit from a little more 'flow'
Are we travelling from somewhere to somewhere else? If so then the 'ship' should be pointing the right way to start with (or the shapes should move top to bottom) as I think this would make more sense to the player. If not then maybe the shapes could be coming into play from random directions?

Suggestions:
Some explosions and better graphics on the 'bullets'?
More story or a goal of some sort?

I would like to see this game go much further and if you want any help (I could write you a bit of music or something?) then let me know... overall keep it up and enjoy coding!
