CONTEST OVER! Thank you to all contestants and the 3 winners, which were announced on my most recent post at this edit time.
Welcome all, this is the official thread for the PWP-G Compo #1. Most of these compos will be for more
advanced FPSC designers.
However, beginners are warmly welcome and encouraged to try. They're just expected to attempt to match up with the top competitors. Since this is the first competition, I have to go over some
general rules for the compo:
- Your image must be
precisely related to the compo theme. You must match or attempt to match most of the aspects of the theme.
- You can only use image editing effects to a
minimum. The only thing you may use it for is for text (i.e. logos like 'My screenshot', etc.), and for very minor effects, such as eye's glowing or a weapon muzzleflash. You may
not apply hue/colour changing tools, or other tools similar to that. A Brightness/Contrast edit is allowed and suggested, especially for horror themes.
Your image will be judged as follows:
- Theme relativity >> Maximum pts achievable: 50 pts <<
- Lighting >> Maximum pts achievable: 20 pts <<
- Overall feel >> Maximum pts achievable: 15 pts <<
- Design/environment structure >> Max pts achievable: 5 pts <<
- Use of media >> Max pts achievable: 5 pts <<
- Use of in-game effects >> Max pts achievable: 5 pts <<
Now that the rules and judging are covered, we move onto the theme of this compo:
Emerging from the darkness...
Additional theme info:
- The setting can be anywhere, but it must be relatively cramped.
- The time can be any time period you wish, i.e., modern, scifi, etc.
- Must resemble a 'horror' type of scene.
- You may not use blood decals/effects.
- Must include an enemy, or something, that is seeming to slowly come forward from darkness into the light. Additional character placing is allowed.
Here is an example I've created:
The only PhotoShop effect I added was the glowing eyes on the creature. Everything else was rendered in-game.
Now, of course, what's a good compo without prizes? So far I've included an exclusive Mini Scifi Pack to the prize list (it is not available anywhere else, and is made by PWP - me!). Here are three images of some of the content.
And included is a scifi sign that includes PSD files with layers so you can edit text and fun stuff like that. It also has some sarcastic-y humour in the text.
I will judge all entrees. The 1st place winner will receive my scifi pack. 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive a custom signature and avatar for use and proof of victory. They may also receive smaller prizes if any others are donated.
Your final screenshots must be posted on
my forums, to keep things more organised. You may only have one final, finished screenshot to officially submit. However, you are free to post as many WIP screenshots as you want in this thread, so long as you finally decide to stop and post the final on my forums.
Please, do not take this the wrong way. I'm not trying to 'lure' members here to my forums. It's just to keep things organised and under control (membership is free of course, and you don't have to ever touch my forums again unless you want to join the next few compos).
