Application Title: InterFPSC
Version: 1.4 (4 rebuilds of the first version!!!)
Developer: Red Rose Creative
Website: http://www.RedRoseCreative.co.uk/interfpsc/
Email: info@redrosecreative.co.uk
Features:
Legend:
= Not Started
= Working On
= Complete
-
Scene Editor - Customise which scenes you would like to include in the final build.
-
Title Screen Editor - Although this is fully functional I am still working on new things to add all the time, whilst keeping application stability smooth. At the moment you can insert, edit and apply effects to Title Screen Videos, Custom Images, Background Image, Game Title and Copyright Strings. I am working on a custom strings object that will enable you to insert multiple strings.
-
Company/Intro Video Editor - Whilst this is also fully functional, I want to allow for additional features such as Live Editing, Timeline Actions and Re-Encoding Options.
-
Credits Screen - Although fully functional, there are still a few things I want to include, such as Custom Music, Timeline editing and Background Video.
-
Options Screen - Let your users have the ability to customise the game options such as, Mouse Sensitivity, Toggling Shaders, Game Resolution etc. As you will see by the screenshot there isn't many options available, which is why this feature is still classed as
'Working On', I would like feedback as to what you want your users to be able to customise. All the options are selectable for your final output. Also I want to implement the custom options a bit more, such as custom videos, more strings and live effects.
-
Final Build / Output and Compression - I have already started a prototype engine for building the output as you can see. It will read the config file and put all necessary files into a folder which will then be compressed
(tested with 70% difference so far), encrypted and will produce a final build. I am debating whether to have just a stand-alone executable for the end build, or an executable with a folder structure (debatable for modding etc.) I could also let the user choose. Feedback is welcomed.
More Information:
So, this will be the first you have heard of InterFPSC. Plus I have been developing it since January 2011. It is quite functional now 'as-is' whilst it may not seem like there is much to be offered, there is. Reason for slow progress? I have done 4 builds so far (from the ground up) to get to 1.4! The first build I did went great, but I also noticed some memory issues, I couldn't locate the memory leak but I also didn't like the interface, so decided to rebuild. As I rebuilt, I didn't like the interfaces I was producing, plus I didn't feature a 'live editor' for the title screen. Then it hit me!
Obviously I want to keep up on development of InterFPSC for as long as the future see's, so rather than develop a single install for every update and putting the price up to have all the features, I will build a single version that can be modded by myself to contain additional features. So for those who just want the builder can just purchase the builder, this will enable me to develop 'add-ons' which you can purchase separately and add-on to the software.
You will see from the screenshots this application is quite a large application. The reason for this is two-fold, firstly I wanted the user (YOU) to feel asif you were actually using this tool inside a development environment, so you felt at total control and have a large workspace available for additional toolbars etc. Secondly, there are a lot of pre-buffers for the video editing feature, custom options video and much more, if the user did have a low-end PC I didn't want it to feel asif it was just a small application taking up considerable amount of memory, I wanted it to be robust and efficient.
I want your feedback on what you would like this software to feature, of course I already have quite a list (which I haven't posted all of the features above) to add to the software whilst it's in development, but what counts the most is your feedback to the development of it.
I will release BETA versions for testing and for those who help BETA this software will receive either a huge discount or a free copy.
Background Information:
First off I would like to say, since I first entered the FPSC Realm (way back in 2005 EA Days) I lost my copy of EA (then upgraded to v1). I was out of the scene for quite a while as I had other projects on-going (I had 2 businesses running Gameservers and our bespoke software development). When I reappeared at the top end of this year I saw how far FPSC had come, I didn't know which credit card i used back in 2005, I didn't know which email account or anything, so I went and purchased it again :) I have also purchased quite a LOT of model packs too. I think the community have knitted well together and a lot of features have come on too. I am not prejudiced to spending money on good things, including the engine, model packs and project blue (which I have never had chance to use).
Immediately I wanted to feel asif I needed to join in this community and give something back. This was it! People kept asking for custom this, custom that, I realised with this great engine it needed a great front end. I saw people using Vishnu and FPSC IP. I could only do something like this because programming and development is what I am best at. I can do a LOT of things with a computer, but modelling I suck at (although pretty fluent in BSP editing) and texturing, forget it!
I didn't and don't really want to compete with FPSC IP (which Robert has done a fantastic job of) and don't want to compete with Vishnu or any other project here. I want to give an alternative, or maybe something with features that aren't on other software available.
In March 2011, I clicked a link on xplosys' signature which took me to 'GUI x9' this is when I thought, oh no... all these months of developing this software and he has developed 'GUI x9' (which i didn't know about). Morale dipped a bit here, as there was plenty of developers already developing what I intended to give back, but after a months absence (I have a business to run so time is limited) I decided to pick up where I last left off and carry on. Not to compete, but just to bring another product to the table, that hopefully will produce additional features to what is already out there, plus develop a software that contains add-ons for RAD (as we say).
What testing I have done so far?
Quite a bit actually. On a test run for final build I managed to compact all the required files into 1 single file. I compared it to a zip and rar file. The test game in the zip and rar files were 285mb and 246mb. I managed to get it down to 90mb without corruption. This was a good step forward.
I don't have any set release date (even for BETA) at this stage and I don't want to say a date and not stick to it. Development however, I will be sticking to.
I want your user input to what you would like to see this software contain. It will be a commercial release, but I will be keeping the price range amicable dependant on features that make it into the final build.
Thankyou for your time, and here are some very early screenshots of the software in use!
