What we have here is a start of a window engine (XP style) for full screen exclusive with speed(hopefully).

I have tried other Darkbasic code GUIs but the speed is not so good, so let me know what you think of this one so far.
Also the screen is blanked and the windows redrawn every sync for a true performance test.

It is only .03% complete. I plan to eventually add the entire XP scope of Gadgets and incorporate Custom gadgets.

Here is the link:http://www.ajtaji.ath.cx/Ajtaji_Winders.exe
It is 1.3mb in size and is a self-extracting .rar archive. You don't need Winrar to open it(It opens itself). When you run it you can tell it where you want to extract the Winder test program to.

Thanks.

Well thanks, did you try it? I would really like to know how well 20 windows performed on your type of system.

There will be a free source available(The engine itself). I don't know if it will have a license of any type yet.

Then there will be a Editor. The editor will generate engine source that is different than the free. It will also generate code to load the encrypted media you create(skins,custom control, etc)and main loop code to maintain the windows.
The editor will more than likely not be free, but very cheap(I'm almost thinking of Donationware). Also the code the Editor generates would belong to the license of the Editor software.

Once the engine reaches 1.0 it will be released. It is 0.02 right now.

Also, anyone willing to make 'Quality' prefab media for the editor and release it royalty free, would get the whole shibang, as it will not come with the microsoft look alike media I'm developing with.

Right now I'm still getting 521 fps with 5 windows and 10 gadgets each. Hope all turns out and is usable in the end.

Thanks.

I tested it. Looks nice! Are you going to program the exit and max- minimize button? And are the windows sprites? or planes, images?

looking forward to see this finished

Quote: "Are you going to program the exit and max- minimize button?"

Yes, in that build they were stuck in with no funtion yet.

Quote: "are the windows sprites? or planes, images?"

Currently in that build there is all three, lol.

Thanks, even its an extreme test at 1024/768 x32 depth x20 random size windows, just trying to get an idea of speed on different machines even if it not standard. The next test will have 5 non random windows(size) with some gadgets.

Thanks for the feedback.

Ok, ran into a snag(bad plan on paper). Had to rewrite the engine with multitasking support. So no gadget demo yet.

But I have a standard multitask demo.

Standard=1 640x480 window and 1 200x100 window and 16 moving cubes.

I get 300fps.

And here is the Main Loop code to show how easy to use the windows so far.

And here is the link to the demo(1.5mb self extracter)

http://www.ajtaji.ath.cx/Ajtaji_Winders.exe

Please report fps and your opinion on performance.

Thanks.

Ok, I get 60 fps on my radeon 7000 64mb,p800 128mb,XP SP2.
Wonder why urs is 22, but the big question is:

Since you only got 22fps, were you still able to move the windows, it should be part of the multitasking working. Its built on theory.

Thanks for the info, really need some more.

Its still going a little, a little on hold, its gets about 15-30 mins a night, Opengl Engine gets 45 mins if I'm not too tired after work.

I just didn't think anyone was interested so I didn't post anymore tests.

Actually thinking of converting it over to use gl.

Just one thing. If you wanted to make it look like the users actual desktop windows, you could always do this (Note*this is not full code, only a theory):

load dll "user32.dll",1
variable1 = call dll(1,"GetActiveWindow")
second_variable = call dll(1,"CreatePopupMenu")

technicaly, if that works, it will load the users windows dll, call up the type specified and print it to the screen.

It has been said that the body is a slave to the mind. Only the mind knows no freedom.

Yeah sorry, I've been trying to secure linux through my routers. It'll be up as a real site on my clunker as soon as my Fedora boxes are secure.

I found a software cpu cooler for the clunker, the bad cpu seems to stay cool enough to serve fulltime. Still have to get every server to pass my routers though.(Someday)
