Quote: "Cgtextures.com"

Im sure a few people have been to this site.

The majority if not every single textures are photos, the problem is none of them are seamless. well when i stumbled across the site for the first time (Yesterday), i decided id have a go at them. What i've done to the textures is make them seamless and modify them just a bit to my liking, and of course threw them into fpsc.
only one catch,

Cgtextures.com License:
Quote: "Use of the Textures is only allowed under one or more of the following conditions:
- Private or commercial use
- Use in 2D or 3D computer graphics, movies and printed media
- Incorporation in computer games, 3D models
- Selling 3D models bundled with modified versions of the textures, when the texture is customized for the 3D model

It is NOT permitted to:
- Sell or distribute any of these textures in an unmodified form, or where the derived product you are selling or distributing is a Texture or a collection of Textures. In other words: Do not sell or distribute any of these textures (modified or not) by itself or in a texture pack!"

(Direct quote.)

so i have to compile them all as segments and cant just send the textures over. And well im lazy, so you have to ooh and aww at the screenies until i have atleast 5-10 segments and ill upload them all.(So far i have 3 done.)

Just needed a thread to keep my interest.

Also, if you go to cgtextures.com and see 2 textures (wall/floor) that you like and you want me to make a segment, link me to the texture and ill make it seamless and post a screeny and throw it in with the rest.

Attached.

edit by the way, if anyone was wondering why im doing this, honestly its purely to keep me entertained, and it probably will help/amuse someone else with these new found segments.

CG textures is a good resource for a start...To even improve your textures you might consider the following:
1 segment is about 2,54 m high in "real life" (Put a character in front of it to see what i mean). So scale your image so the contents like the steel armament and cracks look "believable" in size.
Tone down your colours, reduce your palette-these general painting advices apply for most textures: look at the reduced colours and the fairly low contrast in halflife2 for good examples.
Avoid big patches-they look repetitive on larger scale like on a row of segments.
You have started out with an eye for interesting structures, so go ahead...

And on top i give you cherries for your efforts so far!

I am Jacks complete lack of surprise.

efx 1.6 bloom, none of them are like high contrasted naturally, i guess i just had a bit too much bloom on, i just liked how it looked with it, made it look more.... next gen? lol.

I appreciate the comment, though.

Uploading more soon. cheers.
