EDIT: I accidently submitted the post before I was finished with it

I thought I remembered reading a thread similar to this idea before posted by a moderator, but I can't for the life of me remember the keywords to search for it

Anyway, I was wondering what the chances would be of throwing up a [locked] sticky (only open to posts by the moderators), which would basically serve as a profile for all of the freelance artists; modelers, animators, texture artists, scripters, programmers, musicians, everything, that work with FPS Creator, and are available for freelance work. Each artist would send a request including contact details, samples of their work, and so one to the moderator, and if approved they would be added to the sticky.

It would give every developer using FPS Creator the opportunity to add exclusive content to their games that they cannot find in TGC store. And I'm not talking about artists looking for work at $20.00 an hour , I'm talking about the ones that would be willing to work for a few extra dollars here and there; that everyone would be able to afford.

I obviously wouldn't expect TCG to be linked to this sticky, in the sense the services would be a negotiation via email between the client and the artist. It would basically just present a list of all of the artists/scripters/etc available for hire. Just a thought.

I think that would be a brilliant idea! Maybe some artists who would be able to swap models for models or textures etc. for those youngsters who don't have any form of online payment. (namely me)

Sounds like a great idea. I've currently got a pile of money sitting here doing nothing and I'm starting to make a new game so I could use it for models and textures...

It was me who originally posted the idea here on the forum. I still support the idea and I would love to see a list come alive.

General Jackson: I don't know what GCS is. Could you post a direct link?

GCS stands for, "Game Creators Store". There should be a button in the bottom left of the FPSC editor that takes you right there.

Arenas: by "code" do you mean fpi scripting or source code editing?

Maybe even both

I mean both. I know DB Pro quite well so I could have a go at editing and I do quite a bit of FPI scripting

Just out of curiosity knxrb how many models would we be looking at to get it?

It would be cool if the same was done for Project Blue since again some people have no way of paying for these. Just a thought.

I would ask for:
4-6 high quality models.
7-11 medium quality models.
15+ low quality models.

But if you offer me another deal then I will consider it.

@knxrb, if you want, send me an email with details of what models you would need and I can get back to you on that.

@ Thanks Keith. Well, I looked over all of the responses in the thread you started. Hopefully I'll be able to convince you to move for this sticky again

Quote: "The list will start out small with a few "handpicked" artists, who agree to be posted."

Why not just open a spot for every TGC offical artist (has a store account) that would be interested in being added to the sticky for now. And see how that goes.

Quote: "For now, there more than likely wouldn't be a rating system though.

But if anyone has any ideas as to how to implement something like that, without having the scenario I described above occur, let me know."

Maybe a secondary sticky thread specifically for feedback on both parties' sides. IE, I make John a model, I receive PayPal payment, and then I send the model out to John. After everything is received on both sides, both me and John leave each other feedback in the feedback thread, for other clients and artists to reference before negotiating a deal.

Quote: "Just a bold disclaimer at the top would suffice as far as letting people know that TGC is in no way responsible - it's a FREELANCER you're hiring, an individual, not TGC. And I think any reasonable person can understand that."

Seconded.

Quote: "what about a profile/bio of the artist, that included contact info?"

I was thinking that in this [locked] sticky, there would be one post reserved per artist. And, the layout could be something along the lines of this:

Again, this would probably need some refining, but I think it's a good starting layout.

Quote: "Maybe we can get something started one of these days."

What better day than today?

Quote: "And, kraven, you should wait for xnxrb to find out about ME doing the models, instead of trying to get it yourself."

Firstly, the whole point of this thread was not to start taking jobs. It was to get an official freelance artist thread started. Secondly, the entire point to starting an "artist for hire" sticky, isn't so every artist can say "Oh, oh I called him first! OMGZ! He's mine!" It's so the customers can see each artist that is available for work, review their previous work in a portfolio, and then decide for themselves who they want to hire.

I have no problem if knxrb decides to chose you for work. However, I am also available for work, and I let him know that, just as you did.

Quote: "I figured this thread was away for you to make money, I see I am right."

No, you couldn't be more wrong. If I was looking to make money for myself, I would have started a "Kravenwolf's Custom Modeling Services Thread". This thread was created in hopes that every artist here would be given the opportunity to make a small profit from their talents, and so FPSC users would have the chance to purchase custom media for their games.
