Hi guys!

Is anyone else having problems with DBPro Free and win7?

It installs fine, but after that, when you run it to enter the key, it just sits there in memory using up around 3.5Mb and around 50% of the processing power.

And as it suggests I ran it as admin.

I can't use it or enter the code.

Many Thanks in advance.

I just tried installing it, which it did just fine (I'm running Win7 Home Premium 64-bit), but as soon as I tried to run it I encountered the same problem as you zombee.

Does anybody have any solutions?

The Default Editor can be a bit dodgy on any system, have you tried any free alternate darkbasic editors like CodeSurge or BlueIDE?

OK! Tried CodeSurge, it ran fine on Win7, but I assume because I wasn't able to enter the serial, the code compiles but doesn't run.

Hangon, you guys seem to be running 64-bit windows: That is probably your problem.
If you can, try running it in the Virtualised XP Mode (not XP Compatibility Mode).

I'm running 32bit, and I can't run in virtualized XP Mode, processor is not capable of it.

I am having the same problem with DBPro Free. I have win 7 64 Bit as well. I wanted to try this out before buying, so not sure I want to jump into this if it doesn't work. I tried running it in compatibility mode (Vista and XP) as well as administrator.

Would the retail version have the same issue?

OK! Got a reply back from the game creators, and it seems for the free version to work on Win7 you will need to upgrade it. These are the instructions they gave me:

1) Install DarkBASIC Professional.
2) Download latest update from http://darkbasicpro.thegamecreators.com/?f=upgrades
3) Download Direct X 9.0c from http://www.microsoft.com/directx
4) Install Direct X 9.0c (if you require help installing this, please refer to Microsoft documentation),
5) Install the latest update.

a. Double click or run archive to open.
b. Double click on exe file to run update setup.
c. Upon seeing security warning, click run.
d. Click Next on welcome dialog.
e. Confirm that installation directory matches that of DarkBASIC Professional.
f. Wait for progress bar to reach 100%
g. Click Finish to complete procedure.

6) Run DarkBASIC Professional

a. You will be presented with the activation dialog box. Click on Activate/ Register.
b. Click on Enter Order Key
c. Type in your registered e-mail address and copy activation code.

i. If you dont have your code, check your e-mail for your official TGC E-Mail activation code. If you ordered the CD-ROM version, open your DarkBASIC Professional Program Group and select Activate From DBPro CD, this will check your disk and automatically issue your activation code. Please ensure your firewall allows access.

ii. Alternatively, log onto www.thegamecreators.com click on profile on the top right hand corner, then click on Order history, finally look for NEW! - You can now view all of your DarkBASIC Professional Activation Keys on-line. and click on Activation keys. The activation code will be listed there.

d. Click on activate.
e. Click on Finish

7) Exit DarkBASIC Professional.
8) (The next part assumes you are operating as the Administrator, if you are not, ask the Administrator for assistance)
9) Click on Start > All Programs > The Game Creators
10) Right Click on DarkBASIC Professional and select Properties from the menu.
11) Click on Advanced.
12) Place a Tick in Run as Administrator.
13) Click OK
14) Click OK again.

If you experience additional problems with DarkBASIC Professional running under Windows Vista, please update your display drivers, and try again. If problems still persist, please complete the following instructions:

1) Click on Start > All Programs > The Game Creators
2) Right Click on DarkBASIC Professional and select Properties from the menu.
3) Click on the Compatibility Tab
4) Place a tick in Run Program in compatibility mode for:
5) Select Windows XP SP2 from drop down Box.
6) Place a tick in Disable visual themes.
7) Place a tick in Disable desktop composition.
8) Click OK
9) Try software again.
Please note, that you may also need to apply these settings to any exe files you have compiled.

OK! I've installed it on a 32bit Windows 7 and it compiles and runs the resulting program just fine. So these instruction are good! But I don't know about the 64bit version of Win7 try it and report back for the others who are having the same problem.

Many Thanks to The Game Creators

Something I have to add.

When updating the editor, you will get a file called EditorU73.exe, rename that to EditorNew.exe.

You get that editor when upgrading to DBP version 7.3, not when upgrading the editor. (As the old editor has it's own upgrade)

Mobiius, I got two files, the first updated the DBP, however this version of the editornew.exe still didn't work on Win7. There was an update of the editor only, which does.

Hence, the reason why I said "When updating the editor!"
