Hi everyone!

I just finished my first FPSC video tutorial/guide. It explains how to easily create a sunlight effect in your outdoor levels.

Check it out on YourGameDesign.

I hope you like it! Feedback, questions and suggestions are most welcome

You can also share the video if you want to!

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME. You know I've posted before in the capabilities section of FPSC creator that it was only limited by the imagination of those using it. You have let everyone in on some fantastic information. Thank you so much!!!!!!!! This is great info for everyone involved with this forum. I can't wait to add moonlight into my level. Thanx again

This was supposed to be my secret...Now anyone can create this effect. Thanks.

I have already had this idea for FPSC, but I never thought of making a tutorial for it. This will be very helpful.

yea this is great and everything but i followed all your instructions and it takes like 45 min to build the leval then it stops at like 85 percent and just hangs there. My pc specks are 6 gbs of ram with a 9800 gt nvida card.

Try changing your Lighting Shadows to "Best for Permformance" in your Preferences. Because you change it to "Best for Quality", the software has to re-calculate the lighting. On our system, it also hangs towards the end. Once I changed it back, it worked and was fine. Some video cards also are the issue, whether the drivers are legacy, or other issues.

Cheers

Mike

Thanks for wasting 3 minutes of my life in what could be boiled down to: Place one big effing light in your level. Build game. Done."

Just kidding, hahahahhahhahha. Nice job!

Thanks a lot guys!

I hope to make more FPSC tutorials at some point.

Daniel wright 2311: something is clearly wrong since I can build my huge levels on a (possibly) slightly older pc in 3-4 minutes with light quality set to max. In my experience it is caused by some buggy entities in your levels. I have identified quite a few if the Egyptian entities that cause the game to stall during builds. My fix has been to change them from static to dynamic.

mgarand: I never claimed to have invented the idea of sunlight in FPSC. My goal is to spread knowledge and make the technique accessible to everyone

Daniel wright 2311: nice to hear you found a solution!

Exactly like I do, but I use smaller sizes and other colors.
I think, you should take a little bit more orange, but that's my opinion.
Thanks for taking the time.

Best,
TheK

I as well didn't know the light could affect it that far below! Thanks! What is your ambience setting? Zero?

defiler: You forgot to tell what is actually the problem. It's hard to give any advice without that information

Toasty Fresh: there has actually been some light tools that create a directional light. One of the recent. Once there was a really great tool made by PeanutButterFingers but I don't think it has been on sale for years know.

I've used this sorta thing before, but a little differently, kinda like TheK said he does. I mean, I use like 5 or 6 lights which are all sligltly different colors of yellow, lol. (and set their range to like 1000 or something...)

In my experience FPSC simply blends the different colors so it won't really look all that different from setting 1 light with your intended color. In your given example the colors would blend into a single yellow and you could just as easily have used that yellow on a single light. It would probably save some time during level builds.

Yeah, but if it's in different ranges, like a yellow with a range of 500 and a red with a range of 300 in one spot...Very nice effect. I do that for fire.
