A few days ago I was reading through the forums and a lot of people were making dedications to Heltor. He was obviously a most valuable contributor to this community.

I was thinking about some kind of permanent memorial to him. So, even though I'm a new user and never knew him, I had the idea of putting in an easter egg dedicated to him in one of my game levels, then I thought, what better memorial to him than if everyone put some kind 'Heltor Easter Egg' in one of their game levels?

Even if it's a model he made, hidden away for people to find, or his name written in a strategic place in a level, a or new model with his name written on it. (The model idea I got from Pirate Myke and his tyre swing with Heltor's name on it).

What do people think?

I game therefore I am.

Heltor passed away not too long ago.

I will admit that I'm not always right, but I'll never admit that I'm wrong.

Defo,

Very sad

Be happy to have something that could be found and dropped into a game, maybe as a secret room in games ?

Glad people like my idea

@ Anayar, would you be able to make me a packing crate model, with 'Heltor Storage and Removals' written on it instead of his name on the chimney model? You don't need to make it exclusively for me, make it freely available to everyone, thanks!

I like this idea, it's a nice way to make a tribute towards Heltor.

Since the model has no UV coordinates, any changes I do to the texture will not show

Heh. Yeah, that was my first model. To this day I still can't make UV maps that are worth a "darn."

@Anayar, that's deliberate, it's an integral part of the story! It's supposed to represent an old house concealing an underground facility........that's all I'll say without giving away any spoilers!

I've already seen it

Looks nice, but I still don't think the STOCK scifi and ww2 media should mix. You can mix custom ww2 stuff and scifi or the other way around, but I don't like the idea of the stock genres mixing

Cheers,
Anayar

Not wanting to sound argumentative, but the stock ww2 chateaux was the only one I could find that fit in with my story.

I didn't see the point of hiding a 'sci-fi' facility with a 'sci-fi' house. Hence the old looking house hiding the new looking facility!

Look at it this way, If you was walking along a street and saw an old house, you would think nothing of it, least of all that there might be a high tech facility underneath it! On the other hand, If you saw a high tech building, you wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that there was a high tech facility underneath it.

Does that make sense?! Do you see now why I have mixed the two?

I game therefore I am.

Bruce, try to see what I'm trying to say... I'm just saying that the stock ww2 and scifi stuff do not go welltogether.
There are many freebie mansion and house models in the forums, why not use those??

Le Shorte: I'm traveling, using my iPhone right now ( which is why I said I the evening )

Cheers,
Anayar

No offense to the modellors, but I already looked and none of them suited my purposes or had the look that I wanted.

IMO there's nothing wrong with mixing stock 'ww2' and 'sci-fi' media, if it fits in with my story and looks the part. Besides, the two are seperated in the level. The 'ww2' mansion is on the surface, with the 'sci-fi' facility underground. So the only 'mixing' in the mansion is with the 'sci-fi' weapons (part of the story) and a few structural elememnts (again, part of the story).

On top of that, the mansion has not been used within a 'ww2' context. If it was a 'ww2' story with 'sci-fi' elements, or visa-versa, I would perfectly well understand your point of view, maybe even agree with you. However, the mansion is not being used as a 'ww2' mansion, it is simply an old house used to hide an underground facility.

I think people tend to get a bee in their bonnett about the stock media. If it's there to be used, then use it as you see fit. If other people have made better media, then fair enough, feel free to use it. IMO there are no other better, or more suitable, free mansions that I can find to use. Again, no offense to all the talented modellors in these forums.

I game therefore I am.

When I eventually get round to teaching myself how to make models, rest assured, one of the first things I make will be a heltor memorial of some sort!

I started this thread as an idea for all the talented modellers that are already out there.

It would have been nice to have got a better response, but other people seem to be making their own heltor memorials anyway, so that's ok!

I game therefore I am.
